I always thought she had the best booking agent or manager. 2) Her agent or manager and his/her "looks" have little to nothing to do with Christina's cultural rank, or lack thereof. The post says "best booking agent" -- not "best looking agent." ???

My bad. In my defense, I posted this just days before I got my new contact/glasses prescription. Without them, or an up-to-date prescription, I'm blind as a fucking bat.

She's on the same level as Jessica Simpson. This, tbh. JS' music career may have never been as big as Christina's but then again, Xtina isn't at the helm of a billion dollar fashion business.

Christina is now firmly wedged between Paula Abdul and Jennifer Lopez. Take that as you will.

VH1 Divas should just get Britney, Christina, Jessica and Mandy Moore and call it the Bubblegum Pop Divas. That would be a dream come true for me.

I didn't see Britney was in there at first, so I was going to scold you for bringing up her physical mass.

The shade thrown around this thread...
OK I can not talk for the US, but I'm certain that she is still a BIG name in Europe. Not like her recent songs became hits or anything, but she is still considered a pretty huge star. On the other hand, Jessica Simpson and especially Paula Abdul are almost virtually unknown.
(Jennifer Lopez is pretty much like Christina, except she actually managed to score a couple of hits in the last 2 years.)

Jennifer Lopez was #1 on Forbes' Celebrity 100 this year. Christina wasn't even on the list. Not the same level.

I am hardly a Christina Aguilera fan but she is definitely higher up on the cultural totem pole than Jessica Simpson. Most people have probably forgotten that Jessica Simpson was ever a singer, she's definitely crossed into "famous for being famous" or famous for being part of a famous marriage territory.
I think the problem with Christina Aguilera is that with each passing year her cultural relevance is taking huge negative hits. Right now, people certainly still remember her hits from the early 2000s and even from the BTB era. But she's dangerously veering into the spot that J.Lo was in pre-American Idol comeback which was "I remember when _____'s music was everywhere." Even compared to 2010, it feels like people have started associating Christina as being a pop star of the past rather than someone who is in between hits at the moment.
Basically, she is definitely trending negatively towards reaching the point Paula Abdul was at during the first season of American Idol.

^^I think we are talking about different things.
But what you said intrigued me. What are the components for someone's cultural rank? I bet there's an academic model/framework on how to measure the cultural impact of a celebrity/public person. I will try to look it up on some online databases.

I know we're discussing Christina, but I want to address this: Most people have probably forgotten that Jessica Simpson was ever a singer, she's definitely crossed into "famous for being famous" or famous for being part of a famous marriage territory. I think you're wrong here. Jessica hasn't been successful in music for several years now, but I'd say most people remember that she started out as a singer. She did have a few big hits in her heyday - namely, 'I Wanna Love You Forever', 'I Think I'm In Love With You', 'Irresistible', and 'With You'. Even discounting her music career, she isn't "famous for being famous"; let us not forget that she has a fashion empire worth well over $1 billion. That may not count for anything in your book, but it does in mine.

But you just can't compare Christina and Jessica's music career, what else makes relevant Jessica for being ditzy and apparently having some huge clothing line, or Christinarelevant for being a bitch and having a top gig on a singing competition, and is still a huge force, and XTina's music career has had more impact than Jessica's, check out the charts.
I don't think The Voice would be paying Jessica what they're paying Christina, I think that's the best way to gauge it. What are they worth to these shows? Isn't she making like 16 million or more? How much did J.Lo make? Ellen? Britney?

I don't think anyone's saying whether Jessica or Christina is more successful than the other. Christina obviously exceeds Jessica in music, but Jessica evens out the playing field by having a monster fashion line in contrast to Christina. As trouper pointed out, components to one's cultural rank simply doesn't solely include music careers like you Christina fans seem to be beating down upon us, which is very much a beaten, dead horse at this point because there's so much more to it than charting statistics. **NO, I'M NOT IMPLYING THAT XTINA IS HIGHER THAN JESSICA IN CULTURAL RANK.** I don't think The Voice would be paying Jessica what they're paying Christina, I think that's the best way to gauge it. What are they worth to these shows? Isn't she making like 16 million or more? How much did J.Lo make? Ellen? Britney? The best way to gauge it is based on the pay that each celebrity receives for a judging spot on a reality-competition show? Uh, no. That's definitely a component, but certainly not the best way to determine it. However... And, for what it's worth, Mariah Carey will make $18 million for her judging spot in season 12 of Idol. Saying "the best way to gauge this" is by a judging position is rather illogical and not true in the slightest. Is it something to take into consideration when "ranking" Xtina's cultural rank? Sure, sure. I'd still put her in a seat next to Paula Abdul, though.
