Coldplay just added some value to its parent company EMI Group, which remains on the Citigroup auction block.
Chris Martin and the gang’s fifth Capitol Records release, Xylo Myloto, is set for a #1 debut on next week’s HITS chart with sales of between 425-450k, based on one-day reports from those music retailers who haven’t closed their doors to set up Herman Cain presidential campaign headquarters.
The band’s previous release, June ‘08’s Viva La Vida, moved 721k, fueled by a viral Apple TV campaign, on its way to 2.76 in U.S. sales.
19/RCA first-season American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson’s Stronger is off to a nice start, with estimates in the 155-165k range, off from her previous first-week sales of 255k for the March 2009 album, All I Ever Wanted.
Reprise’s Michael Buble Christmas album will bow with 100-110k, but look for it to be a consistent seller through the end of the year.
Showdog’s Toby Keith album, Clancy’s Tavern, should do in the 50-60k range.
Anti-‘s critically praised new album from Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Tom Waits, Bad As Me, is looking at 20-25k in first-week sales.
Merge’s She & Him holiday album, A Very She and Him Christmas, featuring Zooey Deschanel and M Ward, will sell in the 15-20k range, which should remain steady
Album sales were down 7% vs. last week, down 7% vs. same week last year and up 3% year to date.
Track sales were down 4% vs. last week, up 10% vs. same week last year and up 10% year to date.
TEA (Track Equivalent Album) sales were down 6% vs. last week, down 2% vs. same week last year and up 5% year to date.
Next week, the chart will be compared to Taylor Swift's 1 million plus debut with Speak Now last year.

Well, "Mr. Know It All" hasn't done as well as "My Life Would Suck Without You," so the projections are not a real stunner. I know Clarkson has done print interviews and such, and I would think she took part in TV promo this week.
Coldplay's singles also have not done as well as the last album's kickoff- plus, as mentioned, it did have that Apple campaign great promo.

About what I expected for Kelly, given MKIA's lukewarm performance. Holiday sales in combination with WDKY should easily push the album past 500k by early next year.

Kelly's a bit lower than I expected, but I think this one will have more legs than her last album. Well, it should anyway. It's way better than AIEW.

Looks like Adele will remain in the top 5 if she holds steady around 100k. Realistically, think she can make it through the holiday season without ever leaving the top 5?

For the following week, Kelly Clarkson's and Michael Buble's sales should drop below Adele's; but, next week there's Justin Bieber, Susan Boyle, and a couple others who could push her out of the top 5. After that, if ousted, 21 could bounce back.

I reckon Tom Waits could do a bit better than that. I think 30-35k is more likely. We'll see if HITS revises its predictions on Friday.

Somehow I think that as the week progresses, KC could be closer to 200

LOL I guess Coldplay wins!
150K is great for Kelly, all things considered. The album is so good.

That's a solid opening for Kelly, all things considered. The album should have legs if promoted properly with the right singles.

Good for Coldplay, and as for Kelly... she brought it upon herself.

Good numbers for Coldplay, Kelly, and Buble...hopefully they can pull steady sales. I really hope Stronger is able to go gold at least

150K is good for Kelly considering the first single. Also, excellent for Coldplay!

Wow for Colplay. 450K with poor reviews and no hit single. Impressive.

She's slowly departing from mainstream, as someone said with all those "screw men" songs. As a proof, she has yet to come close to Breakaway sales (don't say it's general sales going down, she didn't sell platinum with both following albums). Don't get with all the hater comments, becuase I'm not a hater, I just miss the old Kelly songs, we obviously have parted ways..

Kelly has an iTunes banner now, and Coldplay's is (obviously) no longer the only one. Her album has dropped in price as well.
So...potential for changed numbers on that?

Lol I wasn't going to attack you or anything, I was being serious with my question . I don't know the back story to this album and who made the choices for the single and whose to blame etc.

Don't know don't care. She's slowly departing from mainstream No she isn't, as someone said with all those "screw men" songs What does one have to do with the other? Kiss off songs have been the common link between her greatest successes and most disappointing failures, it's hardly like she just started with them and that's the cause for the decline. As a proof, she has yet to come close to Breakaway sales (don't say it's general sales going down, she didn't sell platinum with both following albums Well, she pretty much did actually.). Don't get with all the hater comments, becuase I'm not a hater, I just miss the old Kelly songs, we obviously have parted ways.. Stronger is uniformly and almost unanimously considered more like Breakaway than anything she's done before it or since. If anything after a dark self-penned album and genre wheel spinner of an album, these are 'the old Kelly songs', just the 2011 version.

^ Half of Kelly's album leaked prior to the release. Songs like "Dark Side" and "Let Me Down" were out months ago.
I think RCA purposely went with a song nobody heard............or loved. lol.

^ I think her album is really good. Better than her previous one. The wrong singles can fuck up the album's chart life.

Nice sales for Coldplay :) And decent for Kelly. Not Goodbye Lullaby embarrassing, but not amazing either.
