I figured that this would be a hit, but I have to admit that I'm surprised at just how quickly it's taking off. It moved up two more spots to #26 this week, gaining 2.5 million AI in the process. This is going to be a huge single for him.
It's quickly becoming one of my favourite songs on the charts right now. This and "Drink In My Hand" compelled me to buy the album, and I am impressed with how good it is.

I wasn't a huge fan of 'Drink In My Hand', but this song is fantastic. I never really got behind Eric Church (and many newish male artists like Lee Brice, Brantley Gilbert, and Chris Young) like I have Jake Owen. Such a large influx of young male artists it's hard for me to keep track for some reason. I'm hoping this does really well. The constant beat of the song is a bit memorizing, and it seems like the line "funny how a melody sounds like a memory" really crescendos the chorus.

Glad to see Eric get his time in the spotlight. I still say all the singles from his first album were better than any single off the other two (except Two Pink Lines).
I was not feeling Creepin as a single at first but now I think it should be next then Like Jesus Does and finish it off with Keep On. It's going to be tough for him to top the success of that this album has and will have. He needs to milk it for all he can.

Possible, I guess, but highly unlikely in my opinion. I really hope "Creepin'" is next and I honestly think that could be the last single, but maybe he'll go 5 deep. Nothing from this album tops "Springsteen", but "Creepin'" is close. I also don't think he'll find it tough to top the success of this album when he's ready to move on. Have you seen his touring numbers? He's selling out concerts, some with more than 15,000 people. I don't see him fading away. I think he's right up there with Jason, Blake, and Luke now...only I'd say Eric and Luke don't quite have the "spotlight" that Blake and Jason do (especially Blake)...at least not yet.

I remember reading an interview he did (I think it was a few years ago) where he said he doesn't picture himself releasing many albums in his career (maybe something like 8?). I guess things can change though, so who knows.

^Well that was back when he was a lesser act struggling to get hits I'm sure he'll keep on for as long as he can now that he's on the rise to superstardom

Hey everyone. I've been reading these boards for quite a while now, but wanted to join so I could comment on this thread in particular.
My brother, Jeff, is Eric's utility player (Banjo, Mandolin, Acoustic Guitar, vocals). He co-wrote Smoke a little Smoke, Jack Daniels, I'm getting stoned, and Springsteen with Eric. As you can imagine, I'm sure pulling for this song to do well, not only for Eric, but for Jeff as well.
He also wrote "I can't love you back" (Easton Corbin), "Hard to Miss" (Aaron Pritchett, Canada artist), 2 tracks off of Neal McCoy's new album, a song on Alan Jackson's upcoming album (fingers crossed that album, indeed, is released this year), and multiple songs for lesser known artists and genres.
I just wanted to say hi, introduce myself, and say I've enjoyed all the cool information that's offered here on these boards.
Thanks for approving my membership. Look forward to the ensuing conversation and knowledge.
-Jason
P.S. I have no idea why my gender says female, I guess I have some modifications to do when I figure things out here.

Love this song and pretty much everything Eric Church has done. I would like to see after this release Go with Like Jesus Does and then Creepin to close out .
Wishful thinking on my part here, but It would be neat to see as a 6th single/bonus track/video to release a studio version of Jack Daniels with Livin Part of Life mixed in there. Similar to what Eric does live. especially since he likes to take time on each record to make sure it's the best it could possibly be, doing this would make for a good way to buy some time.

Welcome to the board. It's nice to see another person here with connections to a songwriter (mine are a little more distant though...I'm cousins with Billy Montana/Randy Montana). As other people have predicted, I agree that this will deservedly go to #1 with a good chance at multiple weeks at the top. I saw Eric and Brantley Gilbert in concert on Friday night at a sold out show in Lowell, Mass. It was a fun show...I was a already a big fan of Eric going in (this was my third time seeing him), but I can now say he's right near the top of my list of favorite artists.

I'm familiar with a bunch your cousins' work, and I know Jeff writes with a lot of the same people those guys do. I'm not sure if he knows them or not. I'll have to ask. Neat to see the connection there. I went to see the first 3 shows on the Blood, Sweat, and Beers tour in Fort Smith, AR; Cape Girardea, MO; and Southaven, MS. I was blown away with the whole vibe of the show, the sell out crowds, and the energy. It was an incredible leap from even last year. I don't know what happened to be honest, but all of a sudden radio has come back on board and the industry appears to be a little bit more accepting of their style again. It's been an incredible few years. I'm glad to see their hard work pay off like it seems to be. Going to see the show in Jonesboro this Friday, and then in Shreveport/Bossier Louisiana in April. What did you think about Brantley? He has been a great fit for this tour, and has brought in a lot of new fans.

This song is blowing up on iTunes. For the last week of February (week ending the 26th), it was #24 on the country digital songs chart. Then last week (week ending March 4), it jumped all to #13. And now, it's the #5 country song on iTunes, trailing only "Good Girl", "Over You", "A Woman Like You", and "Somethin' 'Bout A Truck". And I also see that Chief is back up to #2 currently on the country albums chart (on iTunes), trailing only Luke Bryan's new Spring Break EP.
Things are really pointing toward this becoming a HUGE hit. It's passed Jason, Jake, Blake, Lady A, Taylor, and Toby on iTunes now, and as the airplay continues to build for this one, I can only imagine the sales numbers going up, quite a bit higher. Hopefully he'll get to perform this at the ACM's. I'm still holding to my prediction that this will be a multi-week #1 hit, and possibly be up for single/song of the year at the CMA's later this year. I think this could be Eric's first Platinum hit, as well. Or at the very least, it will all but certainly become his 4th straight Gold single.

The very moment I heard "Springsteen" on the record, I knew it had the potential to be his 'game changer' hit. This is his signature song (he already is using it as his encore closer).

I'm with you guys, the first play of his cd I knew this song would be huge. It will be HUGE. Well-deserved, Eric's definitely become my favorite male artist.

^Interesting. I hope it's a good video. I'd love to see a scene where the sun is going down, and maybe, if there are actors playing parts in the video, they could open it up with a girl with discount shades and a store-bought tan, just like the song starts out.

Welcome to the board. I think Springsteen's a fine song on its way to becoming a huge hit, but I give more credit to the writer of Smoke A Little Smoke than I do to the other. Whoever wrote Smoke is a terrific songwriter. That's by far Eric's best song, both in its lyrics and in its music, even if it wasn't nearly his biggest hit. Just one opinion, of course. Stick around, you've found a good place to hang out.

Stick around, you've found a good place to hang out. Thanks for the welcome! I completely agree with your assessment of Smoke. There's no doubt about it, that song kicked Eric's career into high gear! Smoke was written by Eric Church, Driver Williams (Eric's lead guitarist), and my brother, Jeff Hyde. They were sitting around after a show one night, and Driver walked up on the bus. Eric asked what he was going to do and he said, "Oh not much, probably drink a little drink and smoke a little smoke". Thus, the song idea was born. Eric grabbed Jeff and Driver and they wrote it. Jeff wrote the lyrics on a napkin, and they pretty much wrote the song in less than an hour, then kind of put it to the side. A few days later Eric called him asking where those lyrics to "that song we wrote the other night" were. Jeff couldn't find that napkin anywhere. He told me he said a little prayer, opened his nightstand drawer, and there it was. Funny to hear sometimes how those songs come about, and what might have been. I wonder how many great songs never get heard again because the writers forget about them, or lose the lyrics, etc... We'll never know, but I bet it's more than people imagine.

This song is absolutely killing it right now. It's up to #11 on the all-genre iTunes chart (and of course #1 country), between Kelly Clarkson's "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)" and Katy Perry's "Part Of Me". :o
I always knew this would be big, but I think it could be THEE hit of the year on country radio.

I think this will probably win Song of the Year at the CMA's. It's shaping up to be an "If I Die Young"-sized smash.

I don't usually get behind videos, but this was fantastically done. Quite an homage to most of Bruce Springsteen's songs/videos dealing with the common American. I'm interested in just how big this is going to be. You'd think it has a good chance of hitting the top, but it could have longevity this summer as well. Time will tell.
