It's frustrating since we already have Rihanna, Ke$ha, Britney, Katy, etc. doing dance-pop. Nicki was the only one in her lane, I don't know why she half-abandoned it.

She should have just named the record "Roman Reloaded". What I find to be the biggest weakness of this album is the disconnect between the urban and pop material. On "Pink Friday" she had tons of urban material that had a chance at doing something at pop and both audiences (pop and urban) felt more in sync and more inclined to buy the album.

I also thought Minaj's album was missleading. Up intill this week, i thought it was a re release. Having reloaded in the name really helps with that thought process... Naming it Pink Friday 2: Roman Reloaded could have easily fixed that.

I thought this was a re-release until last week, too. When did it become a full album anyway? The whole project has been a massive clusterfuck tbqh.

I have always heard she always wanted to be a pop star, but the only way she could break in was to do rap/r&b. So, now that she made her name she is doing the music she likes better (pop/dance). But, you are right. Nicki really had a market that was hers alone and now she is releasing stuff that is a hybrid of Rihanna/Kesha/Britney/Katy's sound and Gaga's aesthetic. It isn't as fresh or open of a market. Starships is still fun and cute though.

why would you name a new studio album in the exact same format you would name a re-release? Hasn't "reloaded" already been the suffix to a re-release?

I thought Nicki's album was a re-release until I read this thread. This album really hasn't been handled properly.

yea..but when you think about it, the debut is not bad at all, asking an artist too have 2 huge debuts within one year is a lot...i believe every artist needs to stay within that 2 or 3 year gap of new material.

Nicki Minaj's 'Roman' Ready for No. 1 on Billboard 200by Keith Caulfield, L.A. | April 04, 2012 8:38 EDT Nicki Minaj's second album, "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded," is headed straight for No. 1 next week on the Billboard 200 chart. Industry sources suggest the album may sell between 200,000 and 225,000 copies by week's end on Sunday, April 8. It would mark Minaj's second No. 1 following "Pink Friday," which climbed to the top in its 11th week on the list. "Pink Friday" bowed at No. 2 on the chart dated Dec. 11, 2010 with 375,000 sold according to Nielsen SoundScan. (Its big debut was fueled by Christmas shopping as the album bowed during Thanksgiving week.) It rose to No. 1 on Feb. 19, 2011 chart, just as her "Super Bass" single was taking off. Also on course for a high debut next week is Rascal Flatts' "Changed," which could start in the No. 3 slot with somewhere over 100,000. What will be No. 2? Most likely Adele's "21" album, which has yet to fall out of the top 10 in its entire 58-week run. (It has spent the past 18 straight weeks in the top three.) New rock acts Of Monsters & Men and Alabama Shakes could jump straight into the top 10 as well. The former's "My Head Is An Animal" and the latter's "Boys & Girls" will sell perhaps 40,000 and 20,000, respectively. The new Billboard 200 chart's top 10 will be revealed on the morning of Wednesday, April 11. Link

I really don't care who's on top as long as it isn't you know who. I don't want her passing Purple Rain.

Has HITS taken Easter into consideration? Surely that will give sales a boost, especially later into the week.

It's her decision to become too pop. She used to be something special because she was like a brand new female rapper after years. But now, her music is really not that different to other female pop stars. She has lost her 'urban' fanbase.

^Well the cover does look like an easter egg.
I also thought it was re-release until yesterday when I saw it was already released (much to my surprise) and was a full length (and then some!) album.

I'm not even CLOSE to what you'd call a Nicki fan but anybody that goes to any music blogs knew this was a full studio album. ??? I think her numbers are fine considering she's a pop artist now.

Guys I bought this at Wal-Mart and I'm pissed. I forgot that they only do clean versions.
Also, the deluxe edition is 25 dollars at FYE. Twenty-five dollars. That can't be good for sales.

Success of Super Bass, me thinks. That was definitely the link that brought her into the pop market but that song didn't feel like a sell-out. It felt very Nicki, whereas the new pop stuff sounds so generic. Even weirder, that she barely even lipsynchs the singing parts in her live performances.

Some would argue that a record getting out sold by 160k should not be #1 on any level.
