Success of Super Bass, me thinks. That was definitely the link that brought her into the pop market but that song didn't feel like a sell-out. It felt very Nicki, whereas the new pop stuff sounds so generic. Even weirder, that she barely even lipsynchs the singing parts in her live performances. She got that dirty little habit from touring with Britney.

I'd be very surprised if the new Rascal Flatts album fails to beat 21.

Nicki Minaj's 'Roman' Ready for No. 1 on Billboard 200by Keith Caulfield, L.A. | April 04, 2012 8:38 EDT Nicki Minaj's second album, "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded," is headed straight for No. 1 next week on the Billboard 200 chart. Industry sources suggest the album may sell between 200,000 and 225,000 copies by week's end on Sunday, April 8. It would mark Minaj's second No. 1 following "Pink Friday," which climbed to the top in its 11th week on the list. "Pink Friday" bowed at No. 2 on the chart dated Dec. 11, 2010 with 375,000 sold according to Nielsen SoundScan. (Its big debut was fueled by Christmas shopping as the album bowed during Thanksgiving week.) It rose to No. 1 on Feb. 19, 2011 chart, just as her "Super Bass" single was taking off. Also on course for a high debut next week is Rascal Flatts' "Changed," which could start in the No. 3 slot with somewhere over 100,000. What will be No. 2? Most likely Adele's "21" album, which has yet to fall out of the top 10 in its entire 58-week run. (It has spent the past 18 straight weeks in the top three.) New rock acts Of Monsters & Men and Alabama Shakes could jump straight into the top 10 as well. The former's "My Head Is An Animal" and the latter's "Boys & Girls" will sell perhaps 40,000 and 20,000, respectively. The new Billboard 200 chart's top 10 will be revealed on the morning of Wednesday, April 11. Link If Rascal Flatts and Adele are going to be fighting for the number 2 and 3 slots at around 100K, it looks like Madonna is going to have super massive 72%+ drop. We all kinda expected it anyway.

Where's slw84 with all that s**t talking Thanks, luv. It's always nice making friends and having followers ;) I've been putting out fires on other threads to be honest. Since you want it...I'll give it to you. This.was way below.what I was expecting...300k-500k...was my safe bet.I'm glad she has another #1 album...first to have 2#1 albums as a female rapper. I still feel like this number should go up to over 250k...but it is a decent debut...not great like I expected...not bad either. I think that they should have released those two videos beez in the trap and starships before the album release smh...the only video this era.we had was stupid h and well we know what that was about. With the potential of 3-4 urban singles and 4-5 potential pop singles I expect this do make it past the long haul. I'm expecting a small drop next week with Easter sales. If her album scans between 500-700k in its first month then it will be a good sign as pf scanned about 800k. I think with the worldwidesales it will be a higher boost from her debut album. I'm still pulling for her to match her pf us sales by really milking this album and I think she will sell over 5m ww at the end.

With the standard second-week drops being 65%-70%, 72% or so wouldn't be "super massive," really. The drop may be a little more than that- a 75% dip would bring the album to 90K or so.
Those rock-act debuts may not sell all that many physical units, if they're projected to do 40K and 20K.

Since no one seems to pay attention to 2nd week drops, who has the time to make a list of notable 2nd week drops?
I'm trying, but we didn't get the SoundScan chart very frequently in 2011.

I would predict about 90k for Madonna in week 2. 75% drop.
Note that you can still redeem your album from the concert tickets, so it's not like that number is going to zero this week, although certainly most people probably did it in week 1.

This has a lot of things going for it. It is a country album which caters to a different buying market It is also essentially a greatest hits album So it should have longer legs

^I wouldn't say that. You mean, Santana's album which was 12xp+?
Tuskegee should scan north of 600k.
Lionel's first week was also a little padded.
He sold his album on QVC or HSN the week before it hit retail. Sales were reported to be 20k+.

Santana had an album of original songs, a couple of which were huge hits

Keep in mind that the 50% of MDNA album redemptions was never clarified and that it directly contradicted the 124,000 digital sales that were confirmed earlier Wednesday. I'm thinking that the 50% album redemption figure included digital pre orders or something, because I sincerely doubt Madonna only sold 56k in physical sales her first week.

Billboard themselves said the redemption total was 185,000
That is clarification enough for me

I understand that but it still doesn't make sense with the 124k figure that was confirmed from digital sales. 185k likely included something else besides the ticket bundle - possibly pre orders or something.

Projected drop 87%
Or basically your standard 70% drop for a #1 album factoring in the 50% week 1 redemptions

Despite the huge opening week, I wouldn't be surprised if this struggles to outsell Hard Candy. I can see it selling similarly to American Life.

at Lionel selling twice as much as Madonna in their second weeks. Lionel Richie's final numbers should be quite a bit higher than Madonna's over the next several weeks. To me anyway, not a surprise

Adele 21 (XL/Columbia) 155-165k
This is due to it being Easter right? "Rumour Has it" is climbing radio fast too, which may also have helped the increase a little. Mother's Day week should be very interesting. It will most likely do 200K that week, or possibly even more. By which time, she should be over 9mil in the sales department and heading towards 10mil.

Lionel's "Tuskegee" CD is also still # 1 on Amazon.
EDITED to add: Universal Music scores its third #1 in a row as Nicki Minaj's projection increases a little today. Here's how it looks headed into the Easter weekend: *Nicki Minaj (Young Money/Cash Money/Universal Republic) 215-235k Adele 21 (XL/Columbia) 155-165k *Rascal Flatts (Big Machine) 110-120k Lionel Richie (Mercury Nashville) 100-110kOne Direction (Syco/Columbia) 70-80k The Hunger Games soundtrack (Universal Republic) 45-50k *Marvin Sapp (Verity) 45-50k *Of Monsters & Men (Universal Republic) 45-50k Madonna (Interscope) 40-45kShinedown (Atlantic) 35-40k Kelly Clarkson (19/RCA) 27-30k Now 41 (Capitol/EMI) 27-30k Luke Bryan (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 24-27k Shake It Up: Live 2 Dance (Hollywood) 24-27k Gotye (Fairfax/Universal Republic) 24-27k Adele 19 (XL/Columbia) 22-25k *Alabama Shakes (ATO) 21-24k Bruce Springsteen (Columbia) 21-24k Whitney Houston Greatest Hits (RCA) 21-24k *Debuts (4/5p) There you go. From a 358,000+ opening week to a predicted 40k - 45k in the 2nd week. No one can possibly tell me that the giveaway "promotion" didn't inflate Madonna's sales. This is one of the many reasons why I would not want Shania Twain to do that. It's a gimmicky way to boost your sales for a short while. It's better to have an album with longevity than an album that grabs a few quick headlines declaring it a "# 1 hit album."
