But guys, I thought all those people would have bought it anyway? Shouldn't the drop be the usual -70% then?
:o Hm.

doesn't mean for one second that MDNA is a bad album. It's one of her best albums ever. There just isn't any week 2 promotion, or even a hit single. Too bad, their loss.

Exactly Spree. Meh, who cares. She's trying different things, if it works it does, if it doesn't oh well.
I doubt Madonna gives two fucks about the catty comments on here. Regardless of how much this album flops, nothing and no one will take away from what she's accomplished in her 30 years. Let's see who lasts that long. So proud of our girl.

Madonna ain't cryin', but Interscope/Live Nation might be freaking out.
This was an interesting experiment. The big question now is will other acts follow the album/concert ticket bundling?

I'm sure interscope went into this knowing that she's not a big seller anymore and looked at her past album figures.

Projected drop 87% Or basically your standard 70% drop for a #1 album factoring in the 50% week 1 redemptions I told u so i was right on the money with 87% but this is between 89-87% drop its more then the 70% of real sales which would only mean a 85% drop

LOL - depends on how you do the math I suppose
I chose the lower number to be conservative
Anyway
Regarding the 2nd week drop
This shoud not take away the listening enjoyment of the album for ANYONE who bought it
The 2nd week drop also is completely independent from the status and accomplishments of Madonna of the last 30 years
Anyone suggesting otherwise should just listen to the album again. No one is suggesting that accomplishments of yesteryear now have less meaning

There you go. From a 358,000+ opening week to a predicted 40k - 45k in the 2nd week. No one can possibly tell me that the giveaway "promotion" didn't inflate Madonna's sales. This is one of the many reasons why I would not want Shania Twain to do that. It's a gimmicky way to boost your sales for a short while. It's better to have an album with longevity than an album that grabs a few quick headlines declaring it a "# 1 hit album." This gimmick worked for prince some how i am just surprised the free giveaways actually boosted his real sales

That's almost a 90% drop for Madonna. lol. Maybe it won't scan 500k after all.

Lionel Richie (Mercury Nashville) 100-110k Madonna (Interscope) 40-45k GOT DAYUUUUUM!This is exactly what happens when you start doing gimmicky things to inflate your sales. Sad. Not only does she now have the honor of the biggest debut of the year (which won't last), she also now holds the dubious honor of having the biggest second week drop of the year (possibly ever!) All this week's celebratory articles are gonna turn real sour next week.

I cannot see it selling less than 500K. However, I can see it not selling much more than that. Oh well. At first, I missed her name and thought she was going to sell under 20K LOL. I was like OH MY GOD.
Just saw Kelly up around 30K YAY!!!!! Good numbers for One Direction too.

Adele 21 (XL/Columbia) 155-165k This is due to it being Easter right? "Rumour Has it" is climbing radio fast too, which may also have helped the increase a little. Mother's Day week should be very interesting. It will most likely do 200K that week, or possibly even more. By which time, she should be over 9mil in the sales department and heading towards 10mil. Could she return to #1 next week (the April 28th Billboard chart)? A quick scan of the releases for that week doesn't show anyone in her way, and she should have no trouble beating Nicki Minaj's second week.

That's almost a 90% drop for Madonna. lol. Maybe it won't scan 500k after all. When all is said is done, she will probably scan just over 500K. The album is pretty much dead since there are no viable singles left and she doesn't really plan on doing heavy promotion (which won't help anyway.) At least her fans have her concerts to look forward to. Those are always spectacles.

It's like Madonna won't let GaGa have any distinction! Going as far as to even have a bigger second week percentage drop than her! :'( KIDDING!... of course! Regarding the 2nd week drop This shoud not take away the listening enjoyment of the album for ANYONE who bought it The 2nd week drop also is completely independent from the status and accomplishments of Madonna of the last 30 years Anyone suggesting otherwise should just listen to the album again. Anyway, maybe it will reach 500k, but, as others have already stated, just barely.

Is anyone really surprised that the drop for Madonna's album is that much? ??? I think it can get to 500K by the end of the year. Biggest drops from number-one (1-37) Light Grenades β Incubus (December 23, 2006) (1-26) Mission Bell β Amos Lee[10] (February 19, 2011) (1-25) Showroom of Compassion β Cake[11] (February 5, 2011) (1-24) Christmas β Michael BublΓ©[12] (January 14, 2012) (1-24) Blue Slide Park - Mac Miller (December 3, 2011) (1-21) The Golden Age of Grotesque β Marilyn Manson (June 7, 2003) (1-19) The Circle β Bon Jovi (December 5, 2009) (1-18) The Inspiration β Young Jeezy (January 6, 2007) (1-16) The Fragile β Nine Inch Nails (October 16, 1999) (1-15) Greatest Hits β The Notorious B.I.G. (March 31, 2007)

Yeah, I think there might have been a discussion around the Gaga drop time. She was at 85% which was pretty hefty.

Yeah, I think there might have been a discussion around the Gaga drop time. She was at 85% which was pretty hefty. I was trying to compile a list but we did not receive a lot of SoundScan charts in 2011. HITS has all their weekly charts posted, but their numbers are not official. I do know typical 2nd week falls have crept up to ~70% lately.
