Projected to debut with 18-22k. Alright, Still debuted at #20 with 34k (627k to date). It's Not Me, It's You debuted at #5 with 69k (356k to date). It's kinda sad. INMIY is her best album to date. Sheezus deserved at least 50k :/ How it is doing in the UK? Wednesday midweek update: 1 . Lily Allen - Sheezus (22.4k) (credit to @gagalicious)

Sheezus deserved at least 50k :/ I didn't expect her to crack 25k; I think the album would've fared better had her label pushed HOH in the States vs. AB; it did Bubble Under on Hot 100 at least. Plus there seems to be very little buzz I general over here about her return because she's done no real promo for us yet. Did you listen to it yet SHOOTER?? I was gonna have my friend pick it up at Target but I won't bother if it's censored. Explicit. PA sticker is on the wrapper.

Damn. Oh well. Target was cheaper and even though I have to wait, at least I don't have to deal with shitty censored MP3s in the meantime.

At least it debuted top ten! I haven't bought this album yet, but I checked it out and I'm a little disappointed, to be honest. There are a few tracks that aren't bad: "Sheezus," "Air Balloon," "As Long As I Got You," "Silver Spoon" (which sounds like a much better "One More Night"), "Life for Me," "Hard Out Here," "Wind Your Neck In," "Miserable Without Your Love," and "Holding On to Nothing" are the only ones that stick out to me. I'll give the rest of the tracks another chance in a bit to see if they grow on me any. So far, though:
1. It's Not Me, It's You -gap- 2. Sheezus -gap- 3. Alright, Still

This is easily my favorite album of hers. Bar a subpar opening and closing, the meat of it (like, the middle 8 tracks) are great. The bonus tracks are excellent too. Hell, the opening and closing aren't even that weak, they just don't stand up to the rest of it. This is her most consistent, mature album to date. The problem with her last two releases were that they had a few STRONG tracks but littered amongst your typical debut "what am I doing?" cuts (Alright, Still), or they were fairly cohesive without any real knockouts (It's Not Me, It's You). If I had to rank them:
1. Sheezus 2. Alright, Still 3. It's Not Me, It's You
Slight edge to Alright Still because, duds aside, we got some of the biggest songs of her career here.

The negative reviews I have read of this album focus on it being inconsistent in its mission statement and make it sound like Lily tries to have it both ways - baiting females but then, sticking up for them. I haven't heard the album in full so I can't make any comments as to whether or not I agree. I've also read that it's a gormless, pedestrian album. I listened to Our Time and I really like that style from Lily. It's not always about biting commentary. Chinese is my favorite song of hers to date and that's a lovely tribute to her mom. Then, we have The Fear, which is social commentary writ large but an extremely clever and well-crafted song. So, I think she can do both rather well.

I think the album is a good mix between her biting commentary and her personal recap of her life during her hiatus along with the issues she faced with restarting her career and trying to regain her footing. As for the mission statement, I always thought Sheezus was her tongue-in-cheek way of saying she was serious about returning to music and that she was giving her best to be the best, which isn't completely lost especially since even her radio fodder records aren't completely mindless or generic drivel. She knows what she wants and she knows what she's doing.
I also love the sequencing of the album because it does seem to kind of piece the story together in a logical manner; she comes out swinging with Sheezus yet, in spite of her battles and victories throughout, she concludes that it's still hard being a woman in the industry period even if you are Rih Rih, Katy, Lorde, Gaga or Bey.

Cool write up, Shooter. I am looking forward to hearing the album in full and sharing my thoughts. I view Lily as a conflicted character in the industry and I think, if you ask her, even she will say she is not completely sure of her place. Humans are, in and of themselves, full of conflict anyway, aren't we? So, I don't know why it makes sense to expect an artist, who is human, to have it all sorted. It's quite unfair to expect, actually.

I'm so disappointed by this release. I'm a huge fan of Lily - her first two albums are among my all time favorites and I've always appreciated her sharp attitude. But wtf is this? The first thing I can't get past is the production. Loved the pop/reggae stuff on her first and the foray into a more pure pop with some synth-folk vibes on her second. I don't like the heavy use of auto-tune nor the loudness of the electro/hip-hop beats, it all just sounds too common and uninspired. There's also a huuuge drop in the quality of lyrics here. She's always ridden the line between childish and actually making good social commentary, and here she falls short. Unfortunately I can't help getting into the negative buzz of what people have been saying about her flip-floppy stances on some issues (women, hating her singles). I was looking forward to this release, though I do hate when artists take so long of a break (yes I know she had a boby), but it seems though she may have lost her touch over these 5 years. I hope not and I hope she can come back with some brilliant s**t next time! I'll be ready for it.
I'm listening to It's Not Me, It's You as I type this lol.

This should be the lead single (in the US at least) tbh.

Boring. So much potential too. Lots of cool visuals and she was rocking a LOOK, but it went nowhere fast and felt really disjointed.

URL Badman video is shit which is a shame because she looks great and I love the song. I like this album too, though I much preferred INMIY.

Lily looks great, but the video is boring. Her eye makeup has been on point this entire era though.
Also, I'm obsessed with "Bass Like Home," the free song you get for signing up for her mailing list. It's so unapologetically 90s house, and it's great.

She has two new songs on the Pan soundtrack, "Something's Not Right" and "Little Soldier." They're both pretty bland, but at least "Little Soldier" has a nice beat and cute overall sound.
