I have to agree that 'Part of Me' is better than this. Honestly, though, I've loved all of Katy's singles, and this is no exception. She hasn't burned on me at all.

Less than 5 spins in the past 7 days. Doesn't show up in the top 255 on today's update.

Maybe this will end up like Fergie's "Finally"...
It sounds like a decent sized hit to me(but I love Katy and the song so I'm biased and probably not thinking rationally). If it flops that sucks, but it seems like this is the end, so she'll just come back stronger. I hope I don't have to wait too long(new album X-mas 2012 :)).

I can't take the stupidity on this page.
Generic Part of Me better than this? Her voice is horrible in this? What the hammer are y'all on?

Why didn't radio play "Judas" if you go by that logic? Because that song offends religious people. This song is about a boy. America understands this song.

I like this song. Not sure how it will sound on radio in the mix. Hoping Katy has another hit.

I would like this song better if "Wide awake" wasn't repeated 3x before the first chorus. It's really bothering me. Otherwise, I think this is a really great song.

This is miles better than Dressing Up. I thought that song was her first flop since Thinking Of You waiting to happen.

One of my favorite Katy songs. Easily a top10 hit on BB and Pop.

I hope we won't have to wait ages for the music video to then feel rather underwhelmed by it, as with POM.
I wish this song would have a video similar to Take Care, because that one is gorgeous.

... We only waited like a month for the video. Well only a month is still too long for admittedly one of Katy's most subpar music videos from this era. I expected a lot more of it. Hopefully though with this one, since she's working with a Grammy-winning director, there won't be an underwhelming feeling. The end of a monstrous era deserves a monstrous music video (in the good sense of the word).

it's crazy this era started 2 years ago this month. I have a friend at work who got pregnant and had a kid in that time, and the kid already turned 1 year old, lol.

I just realized that yesterday was the two year anniversary of the "California Gurls" adds date.

I'm expecting this to underperform, for the following reason.
"Part Of Me" unmistakably roared out of the gate with a #1 Billboard Hot 100 peak. However, when you look at the release over a more broader scope..........it clearly has visible signs of wear we haven't really seen from any of her previous six releases.
Now one may argue "Hey, you can only go so far pushing 'Teenage Dream' and expecting to squeeze hits out of it!". But that excuse doesn't hold water either, for the simple fact it was the lead single off of a re-release. In spite of that, its digital run has been less robust of that of secondary singles from the album's standard edition.
I think many listeners are fed up, in general, with acrimonious break-up songs, especially after they come on the heels of defiant self-empowerment spins on the subject. I really think Katy Perry is at risk of burning out many of her listeners in her insinuation her music is about to get "really (expletive) dark" in lieu of her bitter breakup with Russell Brand. She is already releasing songs that allude to the situation. But why would listeners want to hear a stream of increasingly depressing songs after a defiantly empowering "Part Of Me"? Is the scope of her situation really like that of the Rihanna/Chris Brown situation? Can we really expect her to release her own "21"?
*
So I think this release will mark her first visible chart underachiever that's related in any shape or form to the "Teenage Dream" cycle. Album track sales haven't even been impressive.
Namaste, lisping HIBISCUS

Seriously... she needs to take a break. I liked her stuff until "Last Friday Night". Now I totally despise her and can't stand to hear any of her stuff on the radio. It just sounds so pre-fabricated, commercial blandness. She's a milking cow for the music industry.

That's mainly part of the reason it hasn't done as well as her previous six singles.

POM is not generic, and i don't think WA is a flop. If it hits the top 20, on either format (Hot 100 and CHR) it'll be satisfactory. It's the 8th single. Who is the last artist to have an 8th single?

It's the 8th single. Who is the last artist to have an 8th single? I'd guess either Nickelback (eight, '08-'10) or Theory Of A Deadman (nine--eight of which charted--'08-'10).

The only eighth single ever to chart on CHR/Pop that I know of is Janet Jackson's "State Of The World" which reached #4 in 1991.

SMH, and it would have been the 8th Top 5 from RN (and possibly the 5th #1) if A&M would have put out a commercial single. I mean the 7th single went #1 for goodness sake. Anyway, this is one of the best songs from the whole TD era but I only see this reaching a Top 15 peak on the H100 and Pop at best.

lord. the younger pop tarts today and their mgmt./record company are greedy mo fos lol. Oversaturating the market is the new norm. It simply =zero artistic integrity and nothing more than just milking momentum from previous hit songs and hoping and expecting song to hit #1 on iTunes simply on frontloaded hype and name brand. :/ I wont name other singer but there are a few who dont play this cliche and predictable game. Will say wish things were like they were up until the 2000s when songs had a single release, hit hard or flopped, then x-amount of mths would go by then another song/video were released etc...you know done in a semi artistic and classy way. Pity, shes only had ONE real flop/lackluster performing song Thinking Of You. Why take the risk here and add another if most dont like it?
Im not all blaming or putting this on Katy. Im SURE its her record company and shes just a casualty of slimy record execs who couldnt care less if (even after several smashes) one bad song p*sses on all thatsuccess- alll just for the sake of making $$ and trying to get another hit as cheap and bad as it may sound. Why not just let it go/end on a VERY high note, go away for a bit than come back w/ major momentum? :/
