I can't get enough of this song, whenever I listen to it I think of victory - and I hope she's gonna be victorious on the Hot 100 next week, at #1.

z100 (I'm pretty sure) was referring to this as "another #1 hit for Katy" so whether or not this hits #1 on the Hot 100 really doesn't matter too much. It's still huge at this point.

I never said such thing. I just want it to hit #1 on the Hot 100. Shabbat Shalom.

But Mediabase doesn't have an official overall airplay chart? I've always just considered Wednesday to be the official day because of that. I personally consider Mondays to be official because I love "Manic Monday". In other words, there's no such thing as an official day for Mediabase overall airplay. Really? How are the year-to-date spin totals calculated then? When are songs removed from the chart to recurrent status? Any day of the week?

There is an official chart for pop, hac, ac, rhythmic, etc. But no (official) chart for the overall airplay combining audience numbers from all formats. Since it's not official, there is no official day for the chart to end. All other charts (Mediabase) are posted every Sunday night.

I'm looking for there to be some kind of cheap remix to get this to #1. But this song SOOOOOO deserves to be number 1, and not stall in the top 3 positions for various weeks. It was #1 digitally, #1 radio, and deserves to be #1 on the HOt 100. Streaming is really killing this song. NOW is the time to strike, or next Tuesday, if they're tryin' to get her another #1 to end the era. Tell that to Maroon 5 which was pinpoing-ing between 2-3 for months that's even much more 'deserving' than Katy's

so if there's no official day, as soon as any song hits #1, it's as official as it gonna get.

Last Friday Night would have been the second if they didn't discount it.

I've decided that as much as I enjoy Katy and am very pleased with how this legendary era has shaped up, and I do like this song, I don't want this to hit #1. I won't complain if it does but I feel like there are too many other new and fresh songs by newcomers and unlikely hitters that should be shining right now. Katy should take a backseat until the next album which should be held off until next summer/fall.

^If this hits #1 on the Hot 100 I can't see it for being anything more than a week. I hardly feel that it will prevent someone else from really "shining" right now after we just got through 20+ weeks of new artists shining at the #1 slot.

so if there's no official day, as soon as any song hits #1, it's as official as it gonna get. Agreed. I just make Wed my official day because of BB. Sunday/Monday would be good as well because it's all the other mediabase chart days. :)

It's probably going to stay #1 for quite some time, with nothing too close to it yet.

99 cents on Amazon (from 69) and 1.29 on iTunes. Down to #9 I believe, in part because of Taylor. It's going to fall out of the top 10 soon and sales this week (for next week's Hot 100) are going to be way down. This is definitely the only chance for it to hit #1.

The funny thing is that they timed the discount perfectly with the week in which the song will be at its peak AI. If streaming wasn't involved this would have very likely hit number 1 on the Hot 100 this week. They gave very few specifics last week so it's hard to know for sure what will happen on Wednesday. There's still a small chance, I believe.
In the event that it does not go number 1 on the Hot 100, all is not lost as the song seems poised to hit #1 on the Overall Airplay chart in addition to already going #1 on CHR (for 2 weeks), #1 on Dance (9th consecutive song from the era to do so), and #1 on HAC (extending her record for most number ones on the format). A brilliant way to end the Teenage Dream era, no? :)

Its a shame that wide awake didnt make it to number one on the hot 100.In my opinion wide awake is her second best song with firework being her best.So wide awake made number one airplay and number one sales, but didnt make it to the top of the hot 100, something is not right with the chart formula cause this deserved to be number one.

Radio is slow, being aligned to it just means you're behind.

Radio is slow, being aligned to it just means you're behind. Yes, I do know. I've stated the discount came a few weeks late in a previous post. That's why I said, "The funny thing is...". One might expect that you should discount when the song's AI is at its peak; however, it's best to actually do so earlier while the song is newer to the public and there is more of a demand for it. Even if they waited a little too long, the fact is they still tried something. Not all labels would have. All in all, a number two peak on the Hot 100 is still fantastic, and this song was a resounding success, especially for an 8th single.

Not all labels would have because most artists/labels don't DO discounts and remixes to get higher peaks. Not intended as shade, just it's not something that most artists/labels do, besides remix EPs, so it's weird to say it like that.

I don't see how it's weird. That was my point. Not all labels would utilize these tools to enhance a song's success. So I am giving her label credit for being one of those that are clever enough to do so, even if they do not time things perfectly each time.

I get what you're saying. It just doesn't seem like the right phrasing or something. What if every artist/label did discounts/remixes like this so everything was nullified? What would happen then?

I don't see any problems with the phrasing. haha If every label did it and perfectly so, then I wouldn't have been making that point. ;)

I guess then it would be how cheap they would go and who would be on the remixes. Would be pretty interesting actually.

I guess, if it sold 150k this week, then it could be #1 on Hot 100 this week!
