Phillip Phillips’ “Home” this week surpasses Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” to become the best-selling song ever released by an American Idol alumnus. “Home” has sold 4,262,000 digital copies. “Stronger” has sold 4,245,000.
“Stronger” wore the Idol sales crown for about eight months. It surpassed Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats” on July 1, 2012. Underwood’s smash held the title for nearly five years. It surpassed Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone” on Aug. 19, 2007. www.mjsbigblog.com/phillip-phillips-home-now-the-best-selling-american-idol-single-ever.htm

The rest of his spring college tour has been cancelled due to illness. He only had 9 dates remaining, and it's unknown as to whether his performance on Idol on May 16 will be affected or not. Here's hoping it's not too serious -- in case anyone forgot, he's had a large past with illnesses. The day after he won Idol last May, he went into surgery for kidney reconstruction.

"Gone, Gone, Gone" is now Platinum! It sold 58k this week for a grand total of 1.28 million, and it's still increasing. Incredible. The album is now at over 900k sold, so I'm sure a Platinum certification will come soon enough. Additionally, "Where We Came From" is confirmed to be the 3rd single off of the album. He begins opening for John Mayer on tour this summer. So happy to see him have this much success! Easily the most successful male Idol winner out of the 5 WGWGs in a row, and he's only behind Ruben Studdard in terms of sales.

I was combining his album & single sales, but yes, if we're going solely off of album sales, then he's behind Scotty & DC.

Very close to selling one million albums. Sold 7K this week and was #53 on the BB200. Supposedly told a NYC radio station that album two should be released spring, summer 2014. That'll be really fast for an Idol winner's #2 album if it happens.

I hope he gets nominated for "Best New Artist" at the Grammys!! I'm happy for his success and he certainly has done tons better than previous winners. I hope he can maintain some staying power. He won't get that push from the Oylimpics again. Man, that sure was a great PR move. It was a strong song but that coverage can't be denied. His album has proven to have legs and HotAC radio seems to be supporting him (right now). So that's a really good place to be coming from on his second album. He shouldn't wait too long to get it out there. Any idea when his next release is planned?

www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/5740618/phillip-phillips-american-idols-latest-million-sellerPhillip Phillips: 'American Idol's' Latest Million-Seller By Keith Caulfield | September 28, 2013 11:28 AM EDT This week, Fox TV's "American Idol" series yields back-to-back million-selling debut albums from its winners for the first time since 2008. 2012 champ Phillip Phillips sold another 4,000 copies of his debut set "The World From the Side of the Moon" this past week, bringing its total sales to 1.004 million, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It's No. 87 on the Billboard 200 this week, after 44 weeks on the chart. (Phillips was named the 11th-season winner of "American Idol" on May 23, 2012.) Phillips followed 2011 winner Scotty McCreery, whose first album, "Clear As Day," reached 1 million in sales in April of 2012, following its October 2011 release. It has sold 1.2 million to date. The last two seasons of "American Idol" to generate consecutive million-selling albums from its winners was its 2007 and 2008 editions. Jordin Sparks and David Cook, respectively, took home the "American Idol" crown those years. Sparks' self-titled debut, which was released in November of 2007, reached 1 million in January of 2009. Cook's self-titled debut reached retail in November of 2008, and surpassed 1 million in March of the following year. The only "American Idol" winners that have not shifted a million with their first post-show album (or any album), are Taylor Hicks, Kris Allen and Lee DeWyze. The three gents won the 2006, 2009 and 2010 editions of "American Idol," respectively. (As an aside, the biggest-selling "American Idol"-related album -- debut or otherwise -- is 2005 winner Carrie Underwood's "Some Hearts" debut: 7.3 million.) As for 2013's "American Idol" winner, Candice Glover, her debut album "Music Speaks" is due out Oct. 8 on Interscope Records.

I'm nervous about how he'll do for his second era. Interscope seems to not be promoting him at all.

I was wondering where the third single is. Did it do something on the hot AC charts? He's had a very strong era. It would be great to have a third single released to pop too even if it's not that successful. Hopefully he has a good second era... Labels completely missed the mark with the promising start of alumni like Adam Lambert, David Cook and even Jordin Sparks on some level.

Even though he didn't perform a new single. He managed to trend WORLDWIDE on twitter and "Home" jumped up 7 spots on Itunes.
