That ad reads like a mess - "we got a white guy with guitar here, so we need some white guy with guitar songs! Like this list of guys...who are all actually different from each other but they're pretty much all the same to us so whatever" - and somehow manages to mention every WGWG they can recall except the ones P2 is most similar to. The LAST thing he needs is something similar to David Cook - I personally thought DC's last album was great but lbr, radio wouldn't touch him and he got dropped. Does that sound like a successful model to follow to you? And besides of which it just reinforces the 'all these WGWG are the same' opinion people have of Idol right now. Then there's the ridiculousness that the demo MUST be a male voice. B/c you know, God forbid you hear a female singer and then have to imagine on your own what the song would sound like with a male singing it. And just LOL at "nothing moody or introspective." Not everything has to be heavy, but they seem to be finding every way possible to intimate that they want the most basic and emotionally-devoid set of lyrics possible.
I'm not even going to dignify the fact that they tried to make this a 'blind' ad (as if there is more than one recent Idol winner working on a debut album) and then put "top 40" and "pop/rock" in the same sentence in 2012 with a response.
If 'fresh' and obviously radio-friendly is what they want they should be looking at Mumford & Sons, fun. and Gotye (STIUTK, not the rest of his album) for their template, but it seems they would trash anything that sounded like the latter two. "Home" pretty much sounds like M&S lite in a good way, but I don't know if they recognize that.
I'll stop bitching long enough now to at least say one nice thing. I really adore Home. It's just so cute! It hits the 'not deep or introspective, but fun and catchy' thing right on the head. If that A&R guy had just said "we need more stuff like 'Home'" that would have said summed up everything they want and need. I am holding out hope that that his album mostly follows that vein.

Between the label's obtuseness and Phillip's bluntness, this album making/promoting process is going to be pretty entertaining to follow.

It is. But it is kind of intriguing. Hopefully the music will be as or more interesting.

Nice cover. Dumb title.
Looking forward to this regardless.

Is there gonna be a new single or just keep promoting "Home"?

Might as well keep chugging along with "Home" at this point. It's certainly not done on radio (should be approaching top 20 overall in about a week or so) and is still charting extremely well on iTunes. Trying to push out a new single while this one is doing fine would be pointless IMO. Guess we'll have a better idea of what's going to happen when the album release gets closer.

Yeah, "Home" just pushed into the top 5 on HAC and AAA, and it's still holding steady on iTunes in the Top 15.
Keep this song going through the end of the month and set up a solid street week for him, and he could see big opening numbers. I'm really excited. Love the cover, too.

Love the album cover, but not the title. I'm excited to see hear his new material.

I'm really excited to hear this album! I'm glad it's coming out next month as opposed to January as they were throwing around before. "Home" has done so well that it's good that it's able to capitalize on it.

Is this a typo or did they omit 'other' from the title? The title's pretty dumb without the 'other.'

Nice cover. Dumb title. Looking forward to this regardless. I'm the opposite. I hate the bright spot on the cover. I like the title. American Idol-alum albums always have lame titles, at least this is something different.

I think that cover looks like it was made by someone putting a text box on an image in microsoft word. Majorly cheap.

I think that cover looks like it was made by someone putting a text box on an image in microsoft word. Majorly cheap. A cover doesn't have to be a CGI or photoshop-filters fest to be a good one. Just take a good picture, add some nice font and you're ready to go, specially for artists like Phillip. For Rihanna, Ke$ha, GaGa... yes, this cover would be cheap for them.

Rickey says there may be a second version...featuring Drake. o___O I guess since he's done Home for all his TV appearances that they need another song for his album promo. Home still has a lot of life in it, I hope another song being released doesn't cause it to fall off prematurely.

I think Gone, Gone, Gone would really build off the momentum of Home, hopefully Where We Came From as a whole sounds better than the sample.

Oh man. I think I really like this album but I'm not surprised because I am a huge DMB fan but yeah, I expect critics to slam him for sounding WAY too much like Dave. Get Up Get Down could be mistaken for a DMB song EASILY. His vocal inflections are pretty much spot on.

I'm checking for his album idk why though... I feel like he is the most legit AI winner since David Cook.
I was not here for the other winners who faded away.

I'm really excited to see how he's gonna sell the first week. It would be hilarious if he debuted higher than Rihanna, which would be easy if he can sell 200K+.
