I wish the demo of this song would one day surface. The intro was a bit different and IMO better on the demo. I love this version of the song but was a little disappointed upon first listen when I realized the Thunder/Lightening and more dramatic opening had been altered. I know nothing of this "alternate intro," but the thought of an intro with thunder and lightning would just make this song completely epic; I am with the others who think the intro is kind of just "meh." Best part of this song is the pre-chorus. I love those lower notes. <3 The intro was the thing I was concerned about, as far as country radio having an issue with the song. But the violin hitlike sounds are just mimicking the rain and hence fit the theme very well. Having thunder/lightning sounds would be over the top or overkill in my opinion.

I think someone posted about there being actual thunder and lightning sound effects for this song and I just about gagged. It was giving me "It's All Coming Back to Me" Celine vibes and it wasn't cute. The way it is now is much better.

"Good Girl" is slowing down on Hot AC, so they can also send BA there (and AC too) to maximize radio exposure.

Doubt it beats out "Springsteen." "Springsteen" is incredibly overrated in my opinion. I could see the CMA going for "Springsteen", but depending on how "Blown Away" does, the song could easily blow away Eric's latest (pun intended). I'm with you. Eric Church is becoming insanely popular with fans, but so far the industry isn't at the same level. He's been largely unrepresented at awards shows thus far.

He has been nominated for Album of the Year and "Springsteen", much like "If I Die Young" and "The House That Built Me", should be what gets him noticed. Also, Carrie has little luck at the CMAs anyway, and isn't really a big Song/Single winner at any major award show. More so Female Vocalist Awards celebrating her great years overall and the ACM Fan Voted Entertainer.

However, I'm pretty sure JTTW and BHC both won Grammy for Best Country Song and BHC was nominated for the overall SOTY category as well.

Also, Carrie has little luck at the CMAs anyway, and isn't really a big Song/Single winner at any major award show. More so Female Vocalist Awards celebrating her great years overall and the ACM Fan Voted Entertainer. It's way too early to say that Springsteen is a solid comparison to IIDY and THTBM. Those two were monsters. Even though Eric's is #1, it won't be for long (Luke Bryan's hot on his heels), as opposed to THTBM, which had the penthouse spot for 4 weeks, I believe. IIDY received a Pop release, which makes up for a good part of why it did so well. Seeing as Springsteen won't be getting a long time at the top and won't be getting a Pop release, I can't see it becoming what some of you are making it out to become. Carrie's done just fine at awards shows, and she's received numerous nominations and a few wins for Single/Song of the Year categories -- recall Before He Cheats at the CMAs (Single), Jesus, Take the Wheel at the ACMs (Single) (both wins), Cowboy Casanova at the ACMs (Song), Jesus, Take the Wheel at the CMAs (Single), and Before He Cheats at the ACMs (Single). She's won at both awards shows and has been nominated several times, so that's certainly more than others could say. That, and Carrie's had 5 CMA wins. Saying she doesn't have much luck there is kind of silly. She hasn't won any in the past couple of years, but like I said before, the Miranda Lambert storm can be considered as a large thanks to that. I can see Blown Away pulling in a lot of critical appraisal that could eventually lead Carrie into a strong hold come awards season. It's an incredible song and one of the best songs released in Country music this year, hands down.

The demo which was up at the Big Yellow Dog Music site before Carrie put the song on hold, had a very distinct Thunder/Lightening sound effect to open the song. It was very similiar to the intro to the Garth Brooks song "Thunder Rolls".

It's the same intro, nothing was added, just the opening sound effect taken away.

"Springsteen" is incredibly overrated in my opinion. I could see the CMA going for "Springsteen", but depending on how "Blown Away" does, the song could easily blow away Eric's latest (pun intended). Of course you feel this way...you stan for Carrie and pretty much no one else, lol (and I don't mean that in a bad way--I just mean people can be biased towards their favorites). "Springsteen" won't get 4 weeks at #1 and it may not even get 2 weeks at #1...but everyone in the industry knows that not very many songs anymore spend a long time at the top, so I don't think that'll be used as a measuring stick. "Springsteen" is performing like a HUGE hit, is already Platinum, and is in the top 20 on the Hot 100. It will easily surpass "The House That Built Me" in digital sales, so that's one category it will beat that one in. And it's gotten as many as 60 plays per week on the Sirius/XM Pop Station 20 on 20. So I don't really think that "Springsteen" is overrated. It seems to be loved by many, except for some people around here who don't like Eric Church. And they're probably not the best people to determine whether a song is overrated or not..

And they're probably not the best people to determine whether a song is overrated or not.. Just because I "stan" for Carrie, my opinion of other songs is automatically biased? I humbly, honestly, and genuinely feel "Springsteen" is overrated - my feelings for Carrie aside. I don't hate "Springsteen", it's catchy, fun, and nostalgic, but I think it's overrated. The way I feel about Carrie Underwood and her music has NOTHING to do with the way I feel about Eric's "Springsteen". When it comes down to it, digital sales and airplay are only factors when it comes to the CMA song/single categories. Single of the Year is more chart based, but that's not the point. "Springsteen" is a great song, but hardly on the same level as IIDY or THTBM. Those songs are applicable to basically everyone. "Springsteen" is a very limited song in terms of its appeal. It's about remembering someone, and the nostalgia for the time of Bruce Springsteen. IIDY is a song everyone can relate to. I don't think I have to explain how, but everyone knows of someone who died young. When it comes to THTBM, everyone who ever lived in a house for a long period of time feels a life-long connection to the house. This feeling is especially prevalent if you grew up in that house, so THTBM is another example of a song that crosses all demographics to relate to basically everyone. This isn't to say only songs that reach through different demographics have a chance at Song of the Year, but that seems to be a consistent factor in recent years. Chart success and sales don't indicate whether a song will win, or even be nominated for Song of the Year. "Stay" by Sugarland was hardly a smash, it didn't even hit #1 on Billboard, but its critical acclaim and overall reception was undeniable and it won. It wasn't really a chart success in comparison to THTBE and IIDY, and it didn't really cross all that many demographics, but it still won. Whatever the formula is, it's pretty much impossible to accurately predict Song of the Year. Single of the Year is a little more chart-related, so it's easier to predict - but Song is downright impossible. Nevertheless, I could see "Springsteen" getting nominated, even winning, but there have been much better releases this year that I think deserve it as well. While it's new, I think Little Big Town's "Pontoon" could be a contender, Carrie Underwood's "Blown Away", Luke Bryan's "Drunk On You", Miranda Lambert's "Over You", Blake Shelton's "God Gave Me You", and Jason Aldean's "Flyover States" are a few choices that come to mind.

Grammy's have always been great to Carrie, but the ACM's and CMA's have not really awarded her many Song of the Year awards, but that may be because since her debut album, the singles haven't been the strongest choices. Perhaps this one will be better received, but I still think it is fighting an uphill battle taking on "Springsteen." Plus those awards were a looooong time ago. Recently, she has little success.

It's tough to get SOTY nominations much less win. I don't know of any Artist that dominates winning that category on a yearly basis. As far as "Springsteen" I think it belongs in the nominations but I don't think it's a slam dunk just yet since we still don't know how other songs are going to perform. "Drunk On You" seems to be just as HUGE of a song as "Springsteen" at this point. I also could see a song like Miranda's "Over You" winning that type of award.

Is there a country version being shipped to country radio? Unless I heard a different version, there's nothing country about the song except the artist. It's not a bad song, just not a country one.

I see where Carrie Underwood and Hunter Hayes are touring together. It should be called the Blown Away/Storm Warning tour.

Haha that does make sense. Hunter will on stage first to give the storm warning, then Carrie will come on and blow away the arena!

This feeling is especially prevalent if you grew up in that house, so THTBM is another example of a song that crosses all demographics to relate to basically everyone. I didn't say that--I said someone who is a really big fan of 1 artist is usually biased towards that artist, not other artists/songs. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but you probably usually feel that Carrie's music is better than most of what else is out there. And there's nothing wrong with that--everyone has different tastes. The comment wasn't meant to be negative. Like for me, I'd say I'm probably a little more biased towards Keith Urban than others. But, RE "Springsteen", it's a song that PLENTY of people can relate to. Why else is it selling so well and is one of just 2 (I think that's right) country songs to chart on Billboard's On-Demand Songs chart (streaming). It is very nostalgic, but it's not really at all about Bruce Springsteen...the specific hook of the song references a Springsteen concert, but the song is centered on a lost relationship. So I guess I fail to see how that's not as universal as the other songs. IIDY was also only a 1-week #1 country hit and didn't really out-sell "Springsteen" by much until it crossed over to Pop; plus, that song had a much slower chart climb. I do think it is a 'bigger' song than "Springsteen" will be but not that huge, certainly not like "Need You Now" was. And THTBM may have gotten 4 weeks at #1 on the country chart, but that was 2 years ago already and most songs just don't do that--radio keeps the revolving door going at the top. Miranda had some good timing and the song was no doubt a hit, but "Springsteen" is well on its way to surpassing THTBM in digital sales. Back to Carrie...I really like her new album like many others here do, and I like this song a lot, but there will always be a part of me that wishes they still stuck with at least a little more in the way of traditional instrumentation for this track.

Biggest hit ever? That would require a seven week stay at #1. I don't think how big a hit is, is solely based off of chart position. Where chart position is definitely a large factor, single sales, crossover chart success, performances, longevity, how it drives album sales, artist association, etc. are all other factors that I feel truly add up to the "impact" of a hit.

^Agreed. Especially because, in this day and age, songs don't spend that many weeks at #1 on the country chart, because of country radio's policy of the revolving door at #1--letting everyone getting their turn, with only the occasional 2-weeker and extremely rare 3-weeker sprinkled in just for fun (which is code for those songs had a little bit better timing).
I suppose you can measure how 'big' a song is by weeks at #1 but yeah, it's not the only way. I highly doubt "Blown Away" is a huge multi-week #1 hit, but it WILL be a big hit. I think, if country radio is open to it, it will be able to hit #1, and maybe could spend a 2nd or 3rd week there...but I think it's far more likely to sell a lot of copies on iTunes/Amazon and go at least 2x Platinum than get additional weeks at the top of the airplay chart.

"Blown Away" the video could be what the "Fancy" video was to Reba. This looks like cllassic Reba drama times ten! Carrie is so easily following in the Queen's footsteps. And "Fancy" is still considered Reba's career song even tho it peaked at #7. "Blown Away" could still be Carrie's "encore" song many many years down the road from now. Also Martina and "Independence Day" which didn't even make the top 10. The video sold it to become the legendary song it is and it took her career so much higher.
