I'm so ready for this to peak. I can't take much more. I didn't mind it at first, but now I'm starting to feel that way too. Especially because it can be such an earworm! I've had to start turning the radio off every time it comes on, to keep it from getting stuck in my head! And I agree that "Baby, you a song" is atrocious.

^ Surprised you went with 3OH!3 instead of LMFAO, as much as you profess to hate them and call them "beyond parody". "I'm Sexy and I Know It" is one of the ugliest pieces of music in modern history, and the video's even worse. I actually like "Cruise" and don't think the lyrics are that bad. I elected 3OH!3 over LMFAO for two reasons. Firstly, 3OH!3, like Florida Georgia Line, met amidst their collegiate experiences. There is that "bro" dynamic between the two of them. With LMFAO, it's a bit different because it is a nephew-uncle relationship. Secondly, say what you will about either duo, but LMFAO has more effectively inspired a degree of highly-caffeinated escapism. I admittedly likened "Party Rock Anthem" as a supreme guilty pleasure of sorts as have many others. Beyond that, I care very little about anything else they have trotted out to date, however. With 3OH!3, on the other hand...........even with their biggest hit, there has always been a mean-spirited snark underpinning their delirious beats. I mean, they said on "Don't Trust Me": "Hey girl, shut your lips! Do the Helen Keller, and talk with your hips!" The point is, even at the height of their fame, they sounded as much cold as they did catchy. At least with LMFAO, as much as you may hate yourself the next morning usually, you can at least be entertained by how mindlessly awful they are. * So the 3OH!3 comparison rings more true to me in that, however catchy the hook of "Cruise" may be, it doesn't inspire me to seize the day. ^^ I'll encourage you to go ahead and pass on "Summer Jam" by Jake Owen & FGL. ;)
It includes the line, "You the rap in my rhyme. You ain't a seven, eight, nine...nah, girl you a dime!"

It'll be interesting to see what happens next week. If current trends hold up, this will miss out on #1 by a tiny margin. "Cruise" could play nice, and let "The One That Got Away" have a week at the top, but I could also see it continuing to add huge amounts of AI, and take over at #1. I bet it'll be close either way.

I couldn't care less about either track, so I will be paying minimal attention this week for sure. "The One That Got Away" isn't awful, in all fairness. It's just quite boring. But just because boring may be a step up from awful doesn't justify it being a righteous chart-topper! Namaste, Noah Hibiscus Eaton

If I had it my way, Jake would be #1 for at least a week, but given "Cruise"'s power flight on the charts lately and them already being #1 on the Country Indicator chart, I won't be 100% surprised if FGL jumps over Jake by the end of the week and blocks him.

I'm surprised at how Jake's song has seemed to hit a wall and has been unable to put up sizable gains for most of the week. He had a nice gain overnight though, so we'll see if that trend continues. My money is on Jake this week, and on FGL for a few weeks thereafter.

Jake's song hasn't really hit a wall, though. His audience the last 2 weeks has been high enough that 90-95% of the time, he'd already be at #1. They're not going for max spins because Luke Bryan is in the way. If they had kept pushing for more spins the past 2 weeks, he would've peaked at the same time Luke did. So why not slow up a bit and wait him out?
I'm 100% confident that Jake Owen will finish this week at #1. FGL has been coming up fast, sure, but they'll start to slow down now a bit. It's actually interesting to note that Miranda Lambert co-hosts CC-USA this coming weekend, and then Jake will co-host the countdown with Lon on the 1st & 2nd of December.
Miranda's song hasn't been acting like a #1 at all, though, but Jake's chart run has been very much on par with his last 2 singles, and I fully expect RCA to get him to the top, now that Luke has peaked. I MUCH prefer Jake's song to FGL's, too..

Good analysis by JH, but I still think it would have been easier to find an extra 800k in audience somewhere for the 12/1 BB chart #1. However, now they have to find a way to keep ahead of the fast-moving FlaGa.
Any chance of a split #1 this coming week? Maybe with Jake nursing his audience lead and staying 100 spins ahead, for a points win on MB. And then FlaGa managing, with the extra day, to go past Jake in audience on next week's BB.

WOW, this is one BIG HIT at Country Radio and also in sales right now!! As of right now it is tracking at #1 on Billboard's Real Time Tracker. I am sure it is going to be named the #1 Country Airplay song for next week on Monday, but question? As I am looking at this incredibly busy and tough chart. I am seeing hardly no threats to knocking off "Cruise" off #1 anytime soon! Only artist or artists I really see to knocking it off are either Justin Moore's "Til My Last Day" which has been on the charts almost the entire year, but I think may come up short, Kip Moore's "Beer Money" which has been strong as a second single and could be #1 in early 2013, or the RED HOT Zac Brown Band with "Goodbye In Her Eyes" which is proving that #1's from them are far from over. How many weeks do you think "Cruise" will occupy the #1 Country Airplay Song? I am thinking at 4 weeks, maybe 5, all depends because it all depends on who starts gaining more and quicker and able to remove Florida Georgia Line by how fast they start to fall after peaking in audience and spins. I think we could be seeing the biggest hit since "Need You Now" from 2009 from Lady Antebellum. I am going with 4 weeks for this.

Songs #2. 3. 4. and 5 are all falling on Mediabase – so that leaves us with Justin & Kip Moore. "Baby You A #1 Song" is 7 Million ahead of Justin and 8 Million ahead of Kip on Mediabase. (Kip seems to be the more likely threat as the next #1 song) Normally I would think that lead would be good for about 3 weeks at the top, but another week could be possible thanks to the Christmas slowdown. The set-up reminds me of "Keep Me In Mind" which spent 4 weeks at #1 last December-January. FGL may be a week too early to benefit from the holiday effect, we'll have to wait and see.

Honestly, every time I hear the first line of the chorus to this song, it makes me want to throw my car radio out the window. I don't and probably never will understand its appeal, but to each their own.

This is a big hit, no doubt, but I don't see it as any bigger than "Drunk On You", "Springsteen", or "Pontoon". FGL is just benefiting from really good timing on the Airplay chart, and so they could wind up with several weeks at #1. The best chance for that happening usually seems to be at the change of the calendar year.
This song has just crossed the 1 million sales mark, and really isn't on a pace to sell any more than the 3 aforementioned songs. "Drunk On You" has just hit 2.1 million sold, "Springsteen" is at 1.9 million sold, and "Pontoon" is at 1.6 million sold.
So I do agree that this is a big hit, and maybe it'll be 2x Platinum by late next year, but it's gonna start to decline in airplay and sales after the holidays. I simply cannot compare this at all to the mammoth hit that was "Need You Now". But I would say that it is certainly up there with those songs I mentioned, along with others like Hunter's "Wanted", Jason's "Dirt Road Anthem", Blake's "Honey Bee", EYB's "Crazy Girl", Kenny's "Somewhere With You", etc.

I'm not sure if this can hold on long enough to be #1 over the Holidays; I have a feeling it'll starting hemorrhaging spins and AI once it peaks (my guess is the week before Christmas). I'll give it three weeks on top max.

Wow, so much hate for this song. I agree that the lyrics for this aren't anything spectacular, but this song is fun and catchy as hell. I'd love to see this song be the multi-week #1 thanks to Christmas. Especially compared to the rest of the top 10.
I despise Justin Moore's song and everything else he's done. Kip's song is okay, but nothing spectacular. ZBB's song is way better than anything they've released since "Colder Weather", but it's not phenomenal to me by any means. And I'd especially be mad to see them get that easy multi-week #1 hit again. I'm just not a big fan of them.
So I'd definitely like to see "Cruise" be #1 for all of December so that none of these other songs get multiple weeks at #1.

Just shows that everybody's got different tastes! I personally don't mind this, but I don't think it's all that great either, and I'm kinda tired of it.
Out of the current top 10 songs, my favorites go something like this: ZBB >> Jake/Kip/Greg/Eric > Luke >> FGL/Rascal Flatts >>>>>>>>>>>>> Justin/Miranda.

This isn't normally the kind of song I like, but for whatever reason I really enjoy it.
It's looking like it could be #1 for awhile. Everyone else in this week's Billboard Top 5 is now losing a lot of spins, so I'd expect them to be #1 for 3-4 weeks, unless something really surprising happens.

This looks like a sure bet for #1 this week and it's not even close with the rest of the Top five as Someguy mentions above.
They're gonna release "Get Your Shine On" next and I totally see the infectious (but somewhat Nickelback-like in chorus) "Tell Me How You Like It" hitting huge this summer. These guys are stars. Tell me the last time a new artist will have #1 the week their debut album hits stores (and done in under 20 weeks too).

They're gonna release "Get Your Shine On" next Oh my gosh. I turned on the radio this morning as this was playing on the Crook & Chase Countdown, and I swear, I thought it was some kind of sick joke. Talk about "beyond parody."

Isn't this completing its final bulleted week? The audience numbers are so high and the gains this week have been so strong that I expect it to level off, and begin falling by Friday or Saturday.
That doesn't mean it will be unable to get 3 weeks at #1 but staying until Christmas seems unlikely. I'm hoping that ZBB can be #1 by Christmas but that may be a stretch; either way, Cruise seems like it will peak very soon.
Give it another 2 million gain this coming week, and I will be forced to suggest that it will be #1 for 15+ weeks, the way the 50's songs could do it.

Have we ever seen a song top 54 million AI on Mediabase? Impressive gains for sure – this has simply been an unreal chat run for a debut single. Kip and Justin haven't seemed to be climbing very quickly – we'll see if that changes soon. I wonder if the early airplay of "Get Your Shine On" may start hurting "Cruise", lowering the potential for a 4 week stay at #1. There's just such a huge gap between #1 and #2 right now though...

54 million audience impressions for Cruise versus 47 million for The One That Got Away. I believe we have our final #1 for 2012.

Comparing this to past songs doesn't work, though, as Mediabase has undergone several recent panel changes and had the audience adjusted upward all across the board earlier this year with new Arbitron rankings.
But anyway, Luke Bryan's "Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye"--which reached #1 a week quicker than "Cruise" did--peaked out at 54.493 million on Mediabase. Not that those numbers really matter, though. Billboard has a more comparable standard as their audience numbers haven't been on a rollercoaster ride all year. What would be really impressive is if a song topped 40 million there, but we haven't seen that happen in a long time. I believe Luke Bryan was the last to do that as well, crossing 40 million with "I Don't Want This Night To End" earlier this year.
As for "Get Your Shine On", I doubt it cuts into this one's run. As far as I can tell, KMLE in Phoenix is really the only station playing the song, along with the XM station (or at least they were). Maybe 1 or 2 more have jumped on board. But KMLE plays non-singles before they're ever released and sometimes they play songs that don't get official releases even. They've been playing Eric Church's "Keep On" and Mumford & Sons' "Why Wait" for more than a month now.
I think this song will get 3 weeks at #1. Zazie brings up a great point as usual...this song really can't gain much more. Maybe it'll have tiny gains yet this week, but it'll be leveling out and falling soon. That's what happens when the bar for #1 is set so astronomically high...by the time a song hits #1, if it's audience is so far up there then it simply cannot gain much more. That's what happens when everyone wants a #1; the chart becomes really competitive and you see songs holding out at #3 or #2, just for their turn at #1, and that pushes up the level of audience a song needs to get to that top position.
Obviously FGL will have a bullet on tonight's chart, and maybe they can hang on to it through this week. But that's far from guaranteed, and that's why we're unlikely to see this song hang on to #1 for weeks on end. It'll have to start falling, either by the end of this week or early next week. So I'll say it gets 3 weeks on top; it would really need a lot of things to go its way, and some luck, to still be #1 on Christmas Eve. I know the gap is big down to Justin, Kip, and ZBB, but at least one of them will keep gaining solid ground and should find themselves at #1 before too long. Maybe "Cruise" can get 2 bulleted weeks at #1, but maybe it will only get a bullet on tonight's chart and then possibly be #1 for 2 straight non-bulleted weeks.
