No, it really is going for adds on Country radio. The guys have informed fans to request on either Country or Top 40 radio. The single is released to iTunes on 4/2 (same date as Country radio adds).
Here are the COUNTRY stations that added the rap remix early:
KKWF-FM Seattle Country 4 0 4 1 0 1 1 1 0.033 KYGO-FM Denver Country 3 0 3 0 0 1 2 0 0.036 WYCT-FM Pensacola, FL Country 3 0 3 0 1 0 1 1 0.013 KFRG-FM Riverside Country 2 0 2 0 1 0 0 1 0.015 KWJJ-FM Portland, OR Country 2 0 2 0 0 0 1 1 0.014 WJVC-FM Nassau-Suffolk Country 2 0 2 0 2 0 0 0 0.002

Well, that's interesting. I don't really know how they'll treat this though..."Cruise" is still charting on Hot Country Songs but it's recurrent on the airplay charts so unless they count this version as a separate song, I don't think it can re-enter the chart.
I should've said in my last post that I wouldn't be surprised if the remix gets a few curiosity spins but I doubt this version is suddenly going to get a ton of airplay (since the normal version is still getting a lot of recurrent airplay). I'm still not sure if I actually believe it's 'going for adds' a la a normal country radio single. I think it will get minimal airplay and I expect stations to mainly keep playing the normal version.

I'm surprised that there is not a Florida Georgia Line/Taylor Swift/Nelly version yet.

#50 on Pop this morning. Is this a pop remix or the regular song? I didn't know they were going to push this over to Pop. It was a station changer for me on my country stations & now I'm going to be hearing it on my pop stations, too? :/
I see the remix ft. Nelly has a CHR adds date of 4/2. Hooray...

The country-rap remix is #4 all-genres on iTunes!! :o The explosion of C-Rap is mind boggling.
"Cruise" will either be #1 for the next 15 weeks on Billboard Hot Country Songs, or it'll just go recurrent since most of the sales (and soon airplay) is the rap remix. I wonder if Billboard will make the right decision and not count the rap remix sales/airplay?

Since Billboard considers it a 'country' song, any pop sales, streaming, and airplay will count even when country sales and airplay vanish. We saw this with WANEGBT and, more recently, "Wanted", where the song is either not played or recurrent on the format and yet it still charts highly, entirely due to pop play.

^This could be a bit different, though, since this 'new version' of the song features another artist, Nelly, who is obviously not a country artist. I certainly hope Billboard doesn't say "Cruise" is the #1 country song...that would mean Nelly would have more Hot Country Songs #1's in the last few years than George Strait does! I don't think the new version got released in time to affect tomorrow's Hot Country Songs chart, but I really hope next week's isn't even more nightmarish than they usually are.

^Bullets at #8 on the mongrel chart. Well the release of the new version with Nelly hadn't hit iTunes yet before the sales cut-off for Thursday's chart. If Billboard does count it as a country song, I might seriously rage. The recurrent airplay plus the massive sales for both versions of this song would EASILY move it up to #1 (again) on Hot Country Songs this coming Thursday, and it could stay there longer than Taylor's WANEGBT did. I thought this song was relatively catchy the first time I heard it but I just can't believe that this is the song that everybody is jumping all over. The remix with Nelly is the #3 song, all-genre, on iTunes right now. :o It trails only the latest singles by Bruno Mars and Pink/Nate Ruess.

Sadly, I can see this being the #1 Country Song of 2013 on this mongrel chart given how big it's becoming on pop.

I hope it is the #1 song of the year, and that it stays at #1 until the end of the year. It will take something that ridiculous to make BB take another look at their chart rules, and to generate protests from country radio. Perhaps the best we can hope for is that we'll just have to ignore 2013, which will be ruined, but they will eventually make a correction.
The idea that songs getting little or no country airplay, or in the case of Taylor Swift's "10-week #1 country hit" getting only limited AND recurrent country airplay, can hijack the MAIN country chart is absurd, so the more absurdity the better.

I really can't imagine Billboard changing the rules for this song. The Nelly part is pretty little compared to the rest of the song, and the music is similar enough that it compares closely enough that it will probably count like Taylor's did. I'm with Zazie in hoping this spends the next 40 weeks on top.

All I gotta say about the FGL+Nelly version is: Country + Rap = Crap.

FWIW, on the current listing of MB's year-to-date top country songs, I see at #16 Cruise by Florida Georgia Line f/Nelly. So now we have retroactively awarded all December-and-later spins of Cruise to the Nelly duet?
Country radio's charts are way, way off.

How far away are we from just having a spinoff chart created, much like Adult Top 40 broke off from Top 40 back in the early 90s? I'm not sure how the audience would react as a whole, but I could actually see an 'Adult Country' chart taking off.

Country radio, as a whole, is a mess right now with (what I will call) "fabricated" charts...rap-infused music...and the whole ordeal. It's sad, really.

I think it's safe to say the label wants the Nelly remix to be the 'true' version now.

I wouldn't go so far as to say country radio is a mess simply because the chart is now counting the Nelly duet as the "official" song. Country radio doesn't even play that song. If anything, its simply the charts that are a mess, which I will not argue right now.

So it is "replacing" the original in some capacity in the country world as well. If the label truly wants the Nelly remix to be the "real" version now... there's something really wrong with that thought process... aren't they on Big Machine? Can I blame Scott Borchetta? ;)

I thought country radio would NEVER go for this! I mean, it's not terrible if you're a pop/rap fan, but there is NO WAY this song should be played on country radio. I don't hate it. I just don't care for rap, and do not want to hear a purely rap song when I turn on my country station! I don't mind an artist occasionally mixing hip hop or rock sounds with a country song (such as Jason Aldean, Colt Ford, and Brantley Gilbert do), but this song shows little to no traces of country. It's quite a shame country radio would play the rap version of a great country song that was already a huge hit. Hopefully, a few stations are just playing it because it's a novelty, and it won't get too much airplay.

Back at #1 on Billboard Hot Country Songs. But is it "featuring Nelly"...??? Ugh, I just saw that. From Billboard: Florida Georgia Line's "Cruise" blasts back onto the Hot 100, re-entering at No. 8. It surges 42-3 on Digital Songs (248,000; up 372%). The duo benefits from two Academy Country Music Awards wins on Sunday (April 7), broadcast on CBS, as well as its performance of "Cruise" on the show. A new remix of the song with Nelly was also commercially released last week and accounts for 75% (186,000) of the song's overall sales for the week (while the original version increases by 19% to 62,000).
"Cruise" concurrently returns to No. 1 on Hot Country Songs for a sixth nonconsecutive week. It first crowned the ranking the week of Dec. 22, 2012, while promoted to country radio; it topped Country Airplay for three weeks that month. With the assistance of Nelly, "Cruise" sails 38-31 in its second week on Pop Songs.Honestly, when the BCU puts up the .pdf file tomorrow morning, and it will likely say FGL ft. Nelly as the #1 country song in the nation, I am going to scream. Be listening for me all around the world.

Assuming "Cruise" is #1 due to the pop influence, how many weeks are we thinking at number one total? If it's six this week, is 20 completely out of the question to be the longest running #1?
If the #1 country song of all-time becomes Cruise - Florida Georgia Line f/Nelly, I'm done with it all.

I think "Cruise" will get at least 15 weeks at #1 on that mongrel chart. It's already at 6.

I had a very bad feeling that this would be an even huger hit once I heard and eventually seen it get released to pop radio along with the Nelly remix (which was a waste of time imo). It also wouldn't surprise me to not only see it as the top country song of 2013, but also as one of the top overall song of the year as well, right up there with today's masterpieces known as "Thrift Shop", "Harlem Shake", "Scream and Shout", "Feel This Moment", and "When I Was Your Man". (Being sarcastic about that last part, of course ;) )

To my knowledge, neither version of "Cruise" is getting any substantial airplay on Pop radio. It's all because of the sales. The new Nelly remix version propelled total track sales to almost 250k last week alone.

The remix's sales are definitely what got it back to #1 on HCS though, yes.
