Leave it to EW to gloss over his major success as an R&B artist prior to this album and focus only on the 3 pop songs on the album.

Leave it to EW to gloss over his major success as an R&B artist prior to this album and focus only on the 3 pop songs on the album. while disparaging the r&b sound that they don't even bother reviewing. that makes so much sense i haven't heard the album yet, i'll give it a listen once it's up on spotify.

This has a 43 on metacritic smh. A bunch of the reviews are just rants bashing Robin's persona. I don't understand why "Blurred Lines" has caused SO much controversy.

Because people started to put the Justin Timberlake/Robin Thicke comparisons into overdrive once he obtained a #1 hit.
That quote alone made me want to cut a bitch. You can tell that they bypassed all of the past albums. They really need to get their s**t together. Here are EW ranks of his prior albums: Love After War B+
Sex Therapy B+ The son of Growing Pains' Alan Thicke has built a career singing the sort of classy, nonthreatening slow jams that befit a squeaky-clean sitcom dad's heir. Robin Thicke takes a few more risks on his fourth album, Sex Therapy, slinging falsetto boasts and come-ons over futuristic electro-funk backdrops with frequent assists from rappers like Jay-Z and The Game. Plenty of other contemporary artists have been treading similar ground for years, but until Justin Timberlake gets around to making another album, this just might be the next best thing. B+[/quote]
Something Else B+
Yeah.....he's real soul-less huh?

I agree Robin aint the one to be accusing of that his past songs prove that, this song isn't even a good barometer of his career, girl is just trying to have fun and I'm glad he got a WW hit of it but I feel EW is judging him of ONE song and his success and painting the entire album and his career as such. I wouldn't argue if they wanna accuse someone else of that but not Robin.

I'm just so at that zero-calorie R&B. Robin has been featured on tracks by 50 Cent, Game, Rick Ross, R. Kelly, Tyrese, The-Dream, Ashanti, Keyshia Cole, Tevin Campbell, Mary J. Blige, Quincy "F#CKING" Jones, Busta Rhymes, Tyga, etc, etc. Jay-Z refused to do a track with Justin before. Robin and Paula go on vacation with Beyonce and Jay-Z. MeiplΓ© anyone. Written and Produced by Robin Thicke. Feel that b!tches at EW.

if only Robin were a female 'diva' so a barrage of angry fans could bury EW under a bunch of emails rightfully tearing that reviewer a new a-hole. alas. silver linings: a) Robin himself is probably too blasted off some blurred lines to care and b) Robin's usual target market is not going to be damaged by these kinds of reviews (they're so ludicrous that almost any r&b fan would conclude they're without merit).
"Sex Therapy" and "Lost Without You," zero calorie? nah...now, if they were talking about those songs being calorie burners then i totally understand what they're saying
it really does seem that reviewers are now put off by his personality for some reason, so much so that i am wondering if he's a well-known douchebag among industry folk and this is their way of exacting revenge. idk. the critics pick their handful of darlings and their chosen punching bags, and i rarely understand the rhyme or reason.

I don't understand why "Blurred Lines" has caused SO much controversy. I've seen a lot of complaints blasting it for misogyny, which is funny because there have been plenty of misogynistic hits. Maybe it's rubbing people the wrong way because their grandma is dancing to it at Bar Mitzvahs.

Misogyny has always been part of music, there is more below the surface that is making his worse than others.

I'd say it's the video that did it. The video helped get the song the attention that made it into a hit but also the attention that fueled the controversy. A double edged sword that worked for and against it.

Yeah. The video is what's doing it.
However, most reviews are blasting him and not the album itself. They're grading the album on personal opinions about him rather than the music, which is extremely unprofessional imo.

I agree and that's exactly why I can't take a lot of the reviews seriously.

I know nothing about this guy's personality. It would seem odd for reviewers to do that if his personality wasn't as known as his name. But maybe I'm just out of the Thicke loop.

Kanye is pretty consistent musically. I just think critics are just jumping on the hate Robin Thicke bandwagon tbh. All of his previous albums have been well received.

Just previewed all the songs on his album on iTunes, and it is AMAZING! There are so many potential singles from this album. I hope Robin Thicke is here to stay and scores many more hits!

Only one of the bonus tracks is hot. The 2 Chainz mix of GI2U & Put Your Lovin On Me aren't that good. Pressure is a jam and it should have been on the standard because it's a highlight imho.

Interview + "Take It Easy On Me" TODAY SHOW
He didn't do GIVE IT 2 U which is the next single. Maybe he's waiting to perform it at the VMAs? or BLURRED LINES again?

Parts of "Ain't No Hat 4 That" melodically remind me of "Take That To The Bank" by Shalamar.

The sequence of "Ooo La La", "Ain't No Hat For That" and "Get In My Way" thrills me. I can't stop going back to them. And I LOVE "Pressure".

They are looking at his album from the "Blurred Lines" video, when they should be praising his versatility and use his past discography.

I'm not surprised that the album is not a critical darling, given the smash success and ubiquity of Blurred Lines. Isn't that usually how critics operate? Edit: So...the main beef with this album, per the critics, are...the lyrics??? It's even more now obvious that critics have no idea who Robin Thicke is. His lyrics, particularly on his uptempos, have been borderline Lonely Island-style parody since When I Get You Alone, honestly. If you are listening to Robin Thicke for intelligent or even quasi-meaningful lyrics, there is a bigger problem.
