So basically Rihanna's entire new album will dominate the Top 10 of R&B/Songs when it gets released?
And i doubt Billboard will admit defeat now. They will give Rihanna 10 No. 1 hits on R&B first, and than change the chart rules. SMH

He was definitely starting his strangehold at the top of the chart with 'Adorn' and just got it stolen away.

I emailed Silvio and asked about how genres are determined. He said, "Determinations on genre are decided based on the sonic make-up of the song." So, people at Billboard are deciding! Interesting they decided "WANEGBT" is country when even her label admitted it isn't.

OMG! I just remembered Miguel was No. 1 the past 3 weeks. First the Grammys snub him, now Billboard.
Jeez Louise.

Ugh. Can you imagine Billboard end of year chart? It's going to be a mess and beyond. How are they going to measure the existing and old chart for this year end chart?
I am highly disappointed that "Adorn" didn't get it's 10+ weeks on top that it deserves. I guess, in my head, these charts won't exist. The airplay chart is the only real one.

I'll be looking at the Mediabase charts and the Digital Songs charts only now to determine what's popular. I want charts that aren't manipulated by people working for the chart company.

They should have waited for the next Billboard calendar year to put this in effect because the rest of these remaining weeks will be pointless then

I mean... if Power 105.1 decides all of a sudden to give Gangnam Style just a few spins this week (or if they are moneyhatted into it) and the song enters the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart at, let's say, #99, then the song would be #1 on the NEW R&B/Hip-Hop chart because of its HUGE sales. That's just CRAZY!!! And We Found Love or Rolling In The Deep would've been #1 for MONTHS! ??? ??? ??? The airplay chart is the only real one. PERIOD.

I read over Billboard's explanation of the changes twice to make sure I understand what they are doing.
So I gather the audience impressions for a particular genre song (e.g. Country) are accumulated from all radio formats not just country. Thus the crossover hits show big jumps. Sales data and streaming are added in to arrive at the country equivalent of a Hot 100. It would be interesting to know what the formula is. I suspect it is the same as the Hot 100, the only difference in the genre charts is exclusion of non-genre songs.
Once again Billboard has made a major change to not just one but several marquee charts (the R&B chart dates back to 1942) during the chart year. Couldn't they have waited? The 2012 chart year only has 6 weeks left!
That is why I no longer take the year-end rankings very seriously. Billboard does not seem to so why should I.
P.S. The creation of a chart just for "R&B" songs excluding rap seems overkill. There are too many charts already, why add to the confusion.

I wouldn't be surprised if the song receives enough airplay from urban that Billboard would take that into account and allows it to chart high from its digital sales. I wouldn't put nothing pass them at this point. These urban stations have to be caution on their curious spins on these other genre songs on the format now.

This just open the door to compile your own Billboard chart. Just take the airplay and digital components and combine them in the way you think it's more appropriate... and there you have it. A nice chart that you agree with

Well, "RITD" would have only hit #1 if Billboard decided it sounded R&B...but maybe it getting some airplay would have influenced that. Not sure.

They can't just decide what is R&B and Country. What do they do, make the entire office vote on it, or do they go the Inkey, Pinkey Ponkey, my Daddy has a Donkey way??? SMH.
I say the song can chart on the Genre chart only if it reaches the Top 20 of the respective Airplay chart. That will decide whether it really is Country or R&B.

Wow. Way to fuck up the charts Billboard. I'll only pay attention the R&B and country airplay charts from now on. This is fucking ridiculous. counting plays from all formats is a terrible idea why would you switch component genre-specific charts to mimic the Hot 100? It makes NO sense at all.

Don't you think, though, that the major record labels will have some say as to what a song is classified as, and will complain if the classification does not meet their criterion?
And rival Labels will keep those decisions 'clean'.
I have known via emailing Billboard that this has been in the works for two years - The industry has known it, and has obviously been satisfied, or Billboard - the US chart company of record - would not have done anything so drastic.
