Mediabase is starting to become wonky and unreliable right now. Hopefully they get their issues sorted out.

Looks like it was probably an increase in rhythmic stations' AI.
As long as the song positions remain relative I can deal (i.e. their top 10 or 20 will pretty much be the same as BDS with maybe one or two songs in switched places, which indicates at least a moderate level of consistency for both sources), but I have to admit the wild fluctuation in numbers lately is kind of frustrating and almost does the opposite of what they're trying to accomplish - instead of making me think they're doing their best to remain accurate I start to wonder how much of their past numbers were really off.

Queen of Christmas coming back for her throne ;( ;( ;(
And ya this media base stuff is becoming ridiculous. I Appreciate then trying to get things right but every week something changes. Wish we could get bds AirPlay updates(in a perfect world). Has there ever been as much of a difference between media base and bds? Maroon 5 have like 139 AI compared to 200 AI :$

MARIAH CAREY – All I Want For Christmas Is You: 4.259 :'( :'( In light of the changes BB made for Whitney Houston, will Xmas songs that have enough points to make Top 50 be able to chart?

^I don't think so. The Hot 100 would be full of the same old Xmas songs each Xmas. BORING

Billboard has always had very specific rules regarding Holiday Songs, specifically because they don't want the same three songs cluttering the chart every single year. So it'll be very interesting to see whether Mariah or any other perpetually popular Xmas tune is allowed to re-enter.

The Christmas rule was a separate rule, and I don't see them doing away with it, otherwise we're going to see "All I Want For Christmas Is You" and "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" shooting up the chart for the last 2 months of every year until who knows when.

Please, just allow All I Want For Xmas to re-chart on Hot 100. The most successful modern Xmas hit but peaked at #83 Hot 100 just because of weak airplay of the remix version in 2000? Seriously, the song deserves at least top 10 peak! >:(

With Mediabase's recalibrations, I wonder how much that will affect holiday tracks, who get the lion's share of airplay from AC stations (at least until the couple of weeks or so leading up to the holiday).
We're less likely to see older titles chart in the top 50 than we are catalog albums in the upper regions of the chart. The only ones to do so since Whitney Houston's passing were... Whitney Houston tracks. Again, extraordinary circumstances.

Yesterday wasn't a recalibration. It was at least one new station on the pop panel that had finally established an audience value (and no it was not a flipped format as far as I'm aware, it's a legit new station). That's why there were some large audience spikes - because the station in question (or at least one of them, since IDK if it was more than one) is in New York.

^Well, I was speaking more of the one a couple months back or so, that saw a big spike in audience total. Was most of that from pop?

Argh, Miguel, hang in there long enough to pass Biebs while still staying ahead of Phillips.

LOL, felipe - you obviously never read any of the Billboard chart columns during the '80s and '90s using the verb "clutter" to describe annual Xmas re-entries! That's why they created the Christmas Singles charts (1963 - 1973; 1983 - 1985) in the first place!

She fell 33-41 on the Hot 100 this week. She's still sooooo high. Only because of airplay (#23 radio songs) because she's not top 50 on demand and digital songs who knows where. She's currently 100 on iTunes... Yet radio is dropping her soooo slowly. It's dumb.
