This week, four ladies come in heralding four debut songs - two of them hot jams, two of them big ballads. Mike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: October 26, 2013 TW | LW | WOC | Artist | Title | Peak | 40 | -- | 1 | Lady Gaga featuring R. Kelly | Do What U Want | 40 | 39 | -- | 1 | Katy Perry | Unconditionally | 39 | 38 | -- | 1 | Lana Del Rey | Young & Beautiful | 38 | 37 | 25 | 9 | Cody Simpson | Pretty Brown Eyes | 9 | 36 | 40 | 2 | Five For Fighting | What If | 36 | 35 | 38 | 3 | Midnight Red | Take Me Home | 35 | 34 | 28 | 4 | Junior Doctor | Dancing in Your Dreams | 28 | 33 | 37 | 4 | Avicii featuring Adam Lambert & Nile Rodgers | Lay Me Down | 33 | 32 | 35 | 6 | Mary Lambert | She Keeps Me Warm | 32 | 31 | -- | 1 | Ciara | Overdose | 31 | 30 | 32 | 4 | Zedd featuring Hayley Williams | Stay the Night | 30 | 29 | 33 | 3 | Christina Aguilera | We Remain | 29 | 28 | 31 | 4 | Travie McCoy featuring Jason Mraz | Rough Water | 28 | 27 | 29 | 4 | Emeli Sande | My Kind of Love | 27 | 26 | 26 | 4 | John Newman | Love Me Again | 26 | 25 | 27 | 4 | Armin van Buuren featuring Trevor Guthrie | This is What it Feels Like | 25 | 24 | 16 | 9 | Phillip Phillips | Gone, Gone, Gone | 3 | 23 | 24 | 4 | Ellie Goulding | Burn | 23 | 22 | 23 | 4 | Martin Garrix | Animals | 22 | 21 | 22 | 5 | Cher Lloyd featuring T.I. | I Wish | 21 | 20 | 20 | 8 | Avicii featuring Aloe Blacc | Wake Me Up | 20 | 19 | 21 | 6 | Calvin Harris featuring Ayah Marar | Thinking About You | 19 | 18 | 19 | 7 | Krewella | Live For the Night | 18 | 17 | 18 | 9 | Lorde | Royals | 17 | 16 | 17 | 8 | Tegan & Sara | Closer | 16 | 15 | 10 | 9 | Bonnie McKee | American Girl | 8 | 14 | 9 | 9 | Zedd featuring Foxes | Clarity | 1 (1) | 13 | 14 | 9 | Katy Perry | Roar | 13 | 12 | 15 | 9 | Parachute | Can't Help | 12 | 11 | 6 | 9 | Calvin Harris featuring Ellie Goulding | I Need Your Love | 2 | 10 | 13 | 8 | Paramore | Still Into You | 10 | 9 | 12 | 9 | Drake featuring Majid Jordan | Hold On, We're Going Home | 9 | 8 | 11 | 9 | Pink featuring Lily Allen | True Love | 8 | 7 | 8 | 9 | Avril Lavigne | Rock & Roll | 7 | 6 | 5 | 9 | Train featuring Ashley Monroe | Bruises | 5 | 5 | 4 | 9 | Taylor Swift & Ed Sheeran | Everything Has Changed | 4 | 4 | 2 | 9 | Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Mary Lambert | Same Love | 1 (5) | 3 | 7 | 6 | Britney Spears | Work Bitch! | 3 | 2 | 3 | 9 | Lady Gaga | Applause | 2 | 1 | 1 | 9 | Sara Bareilles | Brave | 1 (3) |
DROPPERS:Backstreet Boys - In a World Like This (from 39) Lana Del Rey - Summertime Sadness (from 36) Labrinth featuring Emeli Sande - Beneath Your Beautiful (from 34) Capital Cities - Safe and Sound (from 30) Lady Gaga narrowly misses bookending the chart this week, as Sara Bareilles spends a third week on top with "Brave". And Brave is what Sara will have to B next week in order to face down both Gaga and Britney for week number four. Speaking of Britney, "Work Bitch!" is one of three making the Biggest upward Move this week, up four notches, though her 7-3 leap is easily the most impressive of them. Meanwhile, four times three makes twelve, this week's Biggest Dropper Cody Simpson. Katy Perry joins Lady Gaga in taking her second single from her new album onto the chart this week. Far as I can recall, this is the first time that the two have both had debuts here on the same week. This will definitely be interesting to watch as they both go up. Ciara sails impressively in with the week's highest debut. This is her second song to reach my chart; she took "1, 2 Step" to #4 here in 2005. Despite coming right in at #31, she and most of the bottom 20 will have a rather tough time of it next week, with only one falling song ("Gone, Gone, Gone", oddly enough) in an 18-song stretch (33-16). As four of the next five after that are bulletless, they should bring relief as they come down. :) As Lana Del Rey replaces one song with another this week, it's the original (ballad) version that brings her here this week, whereas with "Summertime Sadness" it was the remix. :) And...that should do it for this week's chart talk. Until next week... -Mike

Last week resolved with three divas set to battle it out for the top spot this week. Who came out ahead? :) Mike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: November 2, 2013 TW | LW | WOC | Artist | Title | Peak | 40 | -- | 1 | Melanie B | For Once in My Life | 40 | 39 | -- | 1 | Daughtry | Waiting For Superman | 39 | 38 | 35 | 4 | Midnight Red | Take Me Home | 35 | 37 | 38 | 2 | Lana Del Rey | Young & Beautiful | 37 | 36 | 36 | 3 | Five For Fighting | What If | 36 | 35 | 39 | 2 | Katy Perry | Unconditionally | 35 | 34 | 40 | 2 | Lady Gaga featuring R. Kelly | Do What U Want | 34 | 33 | 24 | 10 | Phillip Phillips | Gone, Gone, Gone | 3 | 32 | 33 | 5 | Avicii featuring Adam Lambert & Nile Rodgers | Lay Me Down | 32 | 31 | 32 | 5 | Mary Lambert | She Keeps Me Warm | 31 | 30 | 30 | 5 | Zedd featuring Hayley Williams | Stay the Night | 30 | 29 | 31 | 2 | Ciara | Overdose | 29 | 28 | 28 | 5 | Travie McCoy featuring Jason Mraz | Rough Water | 28 | 27 | 29 | 4 | Christina Aguilera | We Remain | 27 | 26 | 27 | 5 | Emeli Sande | My Kind of Love | 26 | 25 | 26 | 5 | John Newman | Love Me Again | 25 | 24 | 13 | 10 | Katy Perry | Roar | 13 | 23 | 20 | 9 | Avicii featuring Aloe Blacc | Wake Me Up | 20 | 22 | 15 | 10 | Bonnie McKee | American Girl | 8 | 21 | 14 | 10 | Zedd featuring Foxes | Clarity | 1 (1) | 20 | 21 | 6 | Cher Lloyd featuring T.I. | I Wish | 20 | 19 | 11 | 10 | Calvin Harris featuring Ellie Goulding | I Need Your Love | 2 | 18 | 18 | 8 | Krewella | Live For the Night | 18 | 17 | 25 | 5 | Armin van Buuren featuring Trevor Guthrie | This is What it Feels Like | 17 | 16 | 23 | 5 | Ellie Goulding | Burn | 16 | 15 | 22 | 5 | Martin Garrix | Animals | 15 | 14 | 19 | 7 | Calvin Harris featuring Ayah Marar | Thinking About You | 14 | 13 | 17 | 10 | Lorde | Royals | 13 | 12 | 16 | 9 | Tegan & Sara | Closer | 12 | 11 | 12 | 10 | Parachute | Can't Help | 11 | 10 | 10 | 9 | Paramore | Still Into You | 10 | 9 | 9 | 10 | Drake featuring Majid Jordan | Hold On, We're Going Home | 9 | 8 | 8 | 10 | Pink featuring Lily Allen | True Love | 8 | 7 | 5 | 10 | Taylor Swift featuring Ed Sheeran | Everything Has Changed | 4 | 6 | 4 | 10 | Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Mary Lambert | Same Love | 1 (5) | 5 | 7 | 10 | Avril Lavigne | Rock & Roll | 5 | 4 | 6 | 10 | Train featuring Ashley Monroe | Bruises | 4 | 3 | 1 | 10 | Sara Bareilles | Brave | 1 (3) | 2 | 3 | 7 | Britney Spears | Work Bitch! | 2 | 1 | 2 | 10 | Lady Gaga | Applause | 1 (1) |
DROPPERS:Cody Simpson - Pretty Brown Eyes (from 37) Junior Doctor - Dancing in Your Dreams (from 34) Yep, new #1 song this week: It'll be her vs. Britney for the top spot next week. After that, Train and Avril will come into play. For the second time in three weeks, Armin van Buuren and Trevor Guthrie take Biggest Mover honors, this week with an eight-spot jump to #17. Trouble is, the next nine songs in front of them are all bulleted. Looks like they'll have to take some lessons from Britney if they want to work their way up. Not the best week for Katy - not only does Unconditionally get jumped by Gaga and R. Kelly, but Roar has the week's Biggest Drop, down eleven. Midnight Red go bulletless and drop to 38, but I don't expect them to drop right off. This was more of a bad week for them - I expect them to stick around for at least a little while. The 32-25 range tells the story of how tough things were down there this week, but with five of the next six songs above them all falling, I'd wager that next week that will be the most active area on the chart - swapping places with the teens for that honor. Meanwhile, "I Wish", the sole bulleted song in that five-of-six falling group, may have hit its peak this week as well. And...that should do it for this week's chart talk. Until next week... :) -Mike

Nice top 5, top 2 in specific. :) These top five will be up there for at least a couple more weeks. Sara's not going to be a fast dropper. :) Hopefully Stay The Night, Rough Water, Love Me Again & Royals can continue to move up going forward. Of these, Royals might be the only one close to peaking. (Might.) Just below the Top 10 is going to be a very difficult place to be this month. :( All in all a great chart that I am glad to have came upon for the first time, I need to check out Lay Me Down. Yes, yes you do. ;) Avicii also needs to release it after Hey Brother.

So has Love Me Again, but it's just recently getting popular in the US. Checking out LMD right now. :)

Posting this early. I feel like I'm coming down with something :(, and so I want to have this up in case I'm not on here tomorrow. Two debuts this week: One from this chart's resident queen (more info below), and the other, a newcomer - cut from a wildly different cloth. blfdguy1 might know of this guy. ;) Oh, and this week's award goes to "Wake Me Up", which disappears from the chart completely from #23. @jf816: The quartet you mentioned last week do all go up this week. :) Juan Carlos: Kind of a mixed bag for you this week. @drag27: Top 2 are the same two this week, while Sara slips to 4. Mike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: November 9, 2013 TW | LW | WOC | Artist | Title | Peak | 40 | -- | 1 | Steve Grand | Stay | 40 | 39 | -- | 1 | Avril Lavigne featuring Chad Kroeger | Let Me Go | 39 | 38 | 24 | 11 | Katy Perry | Roar | 13 | 37 | 40 | 2 | Melanie B | For Once in My Life | 37 | 36 | 39 | 2 | Daughtry | Waiting For Superman | 36 | 35 | 38 | 5 | Midnight Red | Take Me Home | 35 | 34 | 36 | 4 | Five For Fighting | What If | 34 | 33 | 37 | 3 | Lana Del Rey | Young & Beautiful | 33 | 32 | 19 | 11 | Calvin Harris featuring Ellie Goulding | I Need Your Love | 2 | 31 | 22 | 11 | Bonnie McKee | American Girl | 8 | 30 | 32 | 6 | Avicii featuring Adam Lambert & Nile Rodgers | Lay Me Down | 30 | 29 | 21 | 11 | Zedd featuring Foxes | Clarity | 1 (1) | 28 | 31 | 6 | Mary Lambert | She Keeps Me Warm | 28 | 27 | 34 | 3 | Lady Gaga featuring R. Kelly | Do What U Want | 27 | 26 | 35 | 3 | Katy Perry | Unconditionally | 26 | 25 | 30 | 6 | Zedd featuring Hayley Williams | Stay the Night | 25 | 24 | 18 | 9 | Krewella | Live For the Night | 18 | 23 | 28 | 6 | Travie McCoy featuring Jason Mraz | Rough Water | 23 | 22 | 29 | 3 | Ciara | Overdose | 22 | 21 | 20 | 7 | Cher Lloyd featuring T.I. | I Wish | 20 | 20 | 26 | 6 | Emeli Sande | My Kind of Love | 20 | 19 | 27 | 5 | Christina Aguilera | We Remain | 19 | 18 | 25 | 6 | John Newman | Love Me Again | 18 | 17 | 16 | 6 | Ellie Goulding | Burn | 16 | 16 | 17 | 6 | Armin van Buuren featuring Trevor Guthrie | This is What it Feels Like | 16 | 15 | 15 | 6 | Martin Garrix | Animals | 15 | 14 | 14 | 8 | Calvin Harris featuring Ayah Marar | Thinking About You | 14 | 13 | 13 | 11 | Lorde | Royals | 13 | 12 | 12 | 10 | Tegan & Sara | Closer | 12 | 11 | 7 | 11 | Taylor Swift & Ed Sheeran | Everything Has Changed | 4 | 10 | 11 | 11 | Parachute | Can't Help | 10 | 9 | 10 | 10 | Paramore | Still Into You | 9 | 8 | 6 | 11 | Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Mary Lambert | Same Love | 1 (5) | 7 | 9 | 11 | Drake featuring Majid Jordan | Hold On, We're Going Home | 7 | 6 | 8 | 11 | Pink featuring Lily Allen | True Love | 6 | 5 | 5 | 11 | Avril Lavigne | Rock & Roll | 5 | 4 | 3 | 11 | Sara Bareilles | Brave | 1 (3) | 3 | 4 | 11 | Train featuring Ashley Monroe | Bruises | 3 | 2 | 1 | 11 | Lady Gaga | Applause | 1 (1) | 1 | 2 | 8 | Britney Spears | Work Bitch! | 1 (1) |
DROPPERS:Phillip Phillips - Gone, Gone, Gone (from 33) Avicii featuring Aloe Blacc - Wake Me Up (from 23) I warned you guys that the 20s would be the most active part of the chart this week. Lots of big jumps there! Granted, now the upper half of the chart is looking more static, though I think I may have spoken too soon about the Top 10 holding steady for a few weeks, as we'll be seeing some songs peaking and beginning to fall. Avril Lavigne secures her 17th chart appearance with the debut of "Let Me Go". Like the total of #1s, she has more than any other artist in this tally as well. Second place in this category belongs to Pink - "True Love" is her 13th chart appearance. Third place is a tie between Rob Thomas and Britney Spears, who have 10 apiece - Rob has five solo, and five with Matchbox Twenty. Speaking of Britney, her work powering up the chart pays off this week as "Work Bitch!" becomes her third #1 song on this chart. :) (Her other two are "Toxic" and "3", the latter of which kicked off the chart's second era in 2010.) A bit of bad news, however - don't expect "Perfume" to give her third place all to herself. It's not likely to chart here. Fourth place is currently a four-way tie - Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Train, and Adam Levine all have 9 apiece (Adam has 8 with Maroon 5, plus his feature on "Stereo Hearts"). Speaking of Katy, her two songs are this week's Biggest Mover and Dropper: Up 9 for "Unconditionally", down 14 for "Roar". Incidentally, after debuting right above her second single rival two weeks ago only to see that jump right over her last week, her jump this week puts her right back ahead. Looks like this is going to be a neck-and-neck race between the two as they both go up! And...that should do it for this week's chart talk. Until next week... :) -Mike

This week sees an invasion from a trio of "The" bands! @jf816, Juan Carlos, @drag27: Re-tagging all three. Posting's been kind of sketchy this week. Sorry guys. :( Mike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: November 16, 2013 TW | LW | WOC | Artist | Title | Peak | 40 | -- | 1 | The Fray | Love Don't Die | 40 | 39 | 29 | 12 | Zedd featuring Foxes | Clarity | 1 (1) | 38 | -- | 1 | The 1975 | Chocolate | 38 | 37 | -- | 1 | Fitz & The Tantrums | Out of My League | 37 | 36 | 40 | 2 | Steve Grand | Stay | 36 | 35 | 39 | 2 | Avril Lavigne featuring Chad Kroeger | Let Me Go | 35 | 34 | 37 | 3 | Melanie B | For Once in My Life | 34 | 33 | 35 | 6 | Midnight Red | Take Me Home | 33 | 32 | 36 | 3 | Daughtry | Waiting For Superman | 32 | 31 | 24 | 10 | Krewella | Live For the Night | 18 | 30 | 34 | 5 | Five For Fighting | What If | 30 | 29 | 33 | 4 | Lana Del Rey | Young & Beautiful | 29 | 28 | 21 | 8 | Cher Lloyd featuring T.I. | I Wish | 20 | 27 | 30 | 7 | Avicii featuring Adam Lambert & Nile Rodgers | Lay Me Down | 27 | 26 | 28 | 7 | Mary Lambert | She Keeps Me Warm | 26 | 25 | 25 | 7 | Zedd featuring Hayley Williams | Stay the Night | 25 | 24 | 26 | 4 | Katy Perry | Unconditionally | 24 | 23 | 27 | 4 | Lady Gaga featuring R. DROPPERS:Katy Perry - Roar (from 38) Calvin Harris featuring Ellie Goulding - I Need Your Love (from 32) Bonnie McKee - American Girl (from 31) Kind of a slow week, which started with me being sick over the weekend and progressing slowly back throughout the week. As a result, most of the rising songs all go up a few notches. And, the Biggest Move this week is just four notches, which no less than six songs do. There is but one Biggest Dropper however: Ex-#1 "Clarity" looks to be at the end of its run as it slides ten to #39. The lower half of the Top 10, in truth, is probably much weaker than the upper half at the moment. Both Pink and Drake slip a notch each. For Pink, there will be nowhere to go now but down, but for Drake, I'm not quite sure yet. At the very least he'll hang around a little longer than Pink will. Meanwhile, Tegan & Sara reach the Top 10, but may not stay there too long. So does Lorde, who might be able to tough it out a little longer. Then there's Paramore jumping 9-6, but I'm thinking that they're close to peaking soon as well. Meanwhile, Train stage a coup and steal the #1 spot this week (not the first time they've taken it from Britney), but as the Top 3 are all very close this week, it could prove to be one-and-done for them as well. Oh, and "Do What U Want" jumps back ahead of "Unconditionally" once again. And...that should do it for this week's chart talk. Until next week... :) -Mike

Super late this week. Had a very bad weekend. :( Mike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: November 23, 2013 TW | LW | WOC | Artist | Title | Peak | 40 | -- | 1 | Michaela May | When You Say | 40 | 39 | 31 | 11 | Krewella | Live For the Night | 18 | 38 | -- | 1 | Bastille | Pompeii | 38 | 37 | 40 | 2 | The Fray | Love Don't Die | 37 | 36 | 38 | 2 | The 1975 | Chocolate | 36 | 35 | 37 | 2 | Fitz & The Tantrums | Out of My League | 35 | 34 | 33 | 7 | Midnight Red | Take Me Home | 33 | 33 | 34 | 4 | Melanie B | For Once in My Life | 33 | 32 | 36 | 3 | Steve Grand | Stay | 32 | 31 | 35 | 3 | Avril Lavigne featuring Chad Kroeger | Let Me Go | 31 | 30 | 32 | 4 | Daughtry | Waiting For Superman | 30 | 29 | 30 | 6 | Five For Fighting | What If | 29 | 28 | 29 | 5 | Lana Del Rey | Young & Beautiful | 28 | 27 | 19 | 13 | Taylor Swift & Ed Sheeran | Everything Has Changed | 4 | 26 | 27 | 8 | Avicii featuring Adam Lambert & Nile Rodgers | Lay Me Down | 26 | 25 | 26 | 8 | Mary Lambert | She Keeps Me Warm | 25 | 24 | 25 | 8 | Zedd featuring Hayley Williams | Stay the Night | 24 | 23 | 22 | 8 | Travie McCoy featuring Jason Mraz | Rough Water | 22 | 22 | 23 | 5 | Lady Gaga featuring R. DROPPERS:Zedd featuring Foxes - Clarity (from 39) Cher Lloyd featuring T.I. - I Wish (from 28) I mentioned some weeks back that Avril was trying for her 13th #1 on my chart with "Rock & Roll" - and as the revolving door of #1s keeps turning, this week she gets it. Her Goodbye Lullaby-era #1s only had one or two weeks at the top, and with "Work Bitch!" still in the mix up there, it's anyone's guess as to whether this will do any better. The good news for her (and for Brit, for that matter) is that there are no other really strong #1 contenders at the moment ("Bruises" will not be returning). Anyone else even know who Michaela May is? (Willing to bet the answer is no. ;)) "When You Say" was a song that R&R and Billboard reported as going for Pop adds a few weeks back. I checked it out, as I've done with other "going for adds" songs, and surprise surprise, I like it. No it's not the best song in the world, but it's got a melody that I can't keep myself away from. Another relatively slow week - it's been tricky lately to have songs move up without feeling like I'm short-changing other good songs in the process. A few bulleted titles, though ("Still Into You", "Closer", "My Kind of Love", "Rough Water", "Take Me Home"), are very likely breathing their last breaths before making the fatal U-turn and going into death spiral, so combined with the already-falling songs, the chart should start to clean itself out a bit over the next month. :) In other Avril news, she and Steve Grand had two of six songs with a four-notch move last week - this week, they're the only two, while two other songs have the Biggest Drop of twice that far. And...that should do it for this week's chart talk. Until next week... :) -Mike

Juan Carlos, @drag27: Guess who returns to the top this week? Mike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: November 30, 2013 TW | LW | WOC | Artist | Title | Peak | 40 | -- | 1 | Eminem featuring Rihanna | The Monster | 40 | 39 | -- | 1 | Zendaya | Replay | 39 | 38 | 40 | 2 | Michaela May | When You Say | 38 | 37 | 38 | 2 | Bastille | Pompeii | 37 | 36 | 27 | 14 | Taylor Swift & Ed Sheeran | Everything Has Changed | 4 | 35 | 37 | 3 | The Fray | Love Don't Die | 35 | 34 | 36 | 3 | The 1975 | Chocolate | 34 | 33 | 35 | 3 | Fitz & The Tantrums | Out of My League | 33 | 32 | 33 | 5 | Melanie B | For Once in My Life | 32 | 31 | 32 | 4 | Steve Grand | Stay | 31 | 30 | 31 | 4 | Avril Lavigne featuring Chad Kroeger | Let Me Go | 30 | 29 | 30 | 5 | Daughtry | Waiting For Superman | 29 | 28 | 29 | 7 | Five For Fighting | What If | 28 | 27 | 28 | 6 | Lana Del Rey | Young & Beautiful | 27 | 26 | 19 | 14 | Parachute | Can't Help | 10 | 25 | 23 | 9 | Travie McCoy featuring Jason Mraz | Rough Water | 22 | 24 | 25 | 9 | Mary Lambert | She Keeps Me Warm | 24 | 23 | 26 | 9 | Avicii featuring Adam Lambert & Nile Rodgers | Lay Me Down | 23 | 22 | 24 | 9 | Zedd featuring Hayley Williams | Stay the Night | 22 | 21 | 21 | 6 | Katy Perry | Unconditionally | 21 | 20 | 22 | 6 | Lady Gaga featuring R. DROPPERS:Krewella - Live For the Night (from 39) Midnight Red - Take Me Home (from 34) The revolving door of #1s keeps turning...only this week, it spins one back to the top, as Britney re-claims the crown for a second week. "Toxic" had many chances to return to #1 after it spent but one week on top back in 2004, but ultimately it was never able to. This week, Britney defies the specter of history repeating itself. Meanwhile, Drake has a similar specter hanging overhead even as "Hold On, We're Going Home" jumps 6-3. "Find Your Love" had an even bigger jump to that position back in 2010, only to stop dead at #2, thanks to Train's "If It's Love". Should "Hold On" miss the top as well, at least he won't have Train to blame once again, with "Bruises" falling 3-5 and set to go nowhere but down from here. With a half-bulletless Top 10, I'm due for a flush-out soon. Next week should see that start to happen. :) Meanwhile, the bottom of the chart is a bit rough at the moment, with just one bulletless song in the first fourteen and only three in the entire bottom half. And...that should do it for this week's chart talk. Until next week... :) -Mike

Guess who returns to the top this week? Yay! "Work Bitch" rebounds atop and "Thinking About You" is in the Top 10! Also, "Animals" is close to be there. Awesome

Last week, Britney worked her way to her first multi-week chart topper here on my chart. Does she extend her run at the top, does Avril Lavigne take back the top spot, or does Drake push past them both for his first chart-topper? There's only one way to find out... :) Juan Carlos: Bad news on another front, I'm afraid... :( Mike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: December 7, 2013 TW | LW | WOC | Artist | Title | Peak | 40 | -- | 1 | Gavin DeGraw | Make a Move | 40 | 39 | 39 | 2 | Zendaya | Replay | 39 | 38 | 38 | 3 | Michaela May | When You Say | 38 | 37 | 37 | 3 | Bastille | Pompeii | 37 | 36 | 40 | 2 | Eminem featuring Rihanna | The Monster | 36 | 35 | 26 | 15 | Parachute | Can't Help | 10 | 34 | 35 | 4 | The Fray | Love Don't Die | 34 | 33 | 34 | 4 | The 1975 | Chocolate | 33 | 32 | 32 | 6 | Melanie B | For Once in My Life | 32 | 31 | 25 | 10 | Travie McCoy featuring Jason Mraz | Rough Water | 22 | 30 | 33 | 4 | Fitz & The Tantrums | Out of My League | 30 | 29 | 19 | 15 | Pink featuring Lily Allen | True Love | 6 | 28 | 29 | 6 | Daughtry | Waiting For Superman | 28 | 27 | 31 | 5 | Steve Grand | Stay | 27 | 26 | 30 | 5 | Avril Lavigne featuring Chad Kroeger | Let Me Go | 26 | 25 | 27 | 7 | Lana Del Rey | Young & Beautiful | 25 | 24 | 28 | 8 | Five For Fighting | What If | 24 | 23 | 24 | 10 | Mary Lambert | She Keeps Me Warm | 23 | 22 | 18 | 10 | Emeli Sande | My Kind of Love | 18 | 21 | 17 | 15 | Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Mary Lambert | Same Love | 1 (5) | 20 | 23 | 10 | Avicii featuring Adam Lambert & Nile Rodgers | Lay Me Down | 20 | 19 | 22 | 10 | Zedd featuring Hayley Williams | Stay the Night | 19 | 18 | 20 | 7 | Lady Gaga featuring R. DROPPER:Taylor Swift & Ed Sheeran - Everything Has Changed (from 36) And, Britney works her way past the pair of Canucks to her third week on top. :) Interesting fact: Turns out Britney's the second artist to hold the #1 spot on my chart the same weekend they guest-hosted the American Top 40. I was thinking she'd have been the first - no, that was actually Gavin DeGraw, who guest-hosted the July 9, 2005 show; on my chart he was spending his 4th and final week on top with "Chariot". Oddly enough, the two book-end this week's chart here, with Gavin "making a move" to have the only debut of the week. And speaking of moves, the biggest downward move this week is 10 notches for "True Love". The biggest upward move is, yet again, 4 notches, which seven songs do this week (including the same pair of usual suspects ). The most impressive of those 4-notch movers this week, though, is probably "Thinking About You", moving from 10 to 6. He has five bulleted songs in front of him, but Calvin's definitely seeking his second #1 song with that one (the first was "We Found Love"). Meanwhile, as we shift to other impressive Top 10 movers, Sara Bareilles re-gains her bullet this week and goes back up to #5. We'll see if this turns out to be a full rebound or merely a short delay on her way down. In the realm of slow and steady movers, "Lay Me Down" reaches the Top 20 in its 10th week in the survey. Look for it to start speeding up over the course of this month, though. :) Note, though, that if this chart were still a Top 20, we'd be seeing a trio of "love" departures this week. :'( Indeed, this is not a good week for "love" songs at all - the only one to move up is "Love Don't Die", and that's just up one notch to #34, while "Love Me Again" holds position at #15. And would you look at that: Newman's caught up in quite a mess of divas this week! And...that should do it for this week's chart talk. Until next week... :) -Mike

Britney Vs. Avril: The battle continues... DROPPERS:Parachute - Can't Help (from 35) Travie McCoy featuring Jason Mraz - Rough Water (from 31) And the tide of the catfight at the top turns again, with Avril returning to #1 for a second week. This marks the first time in my chart's history (in any incarnation) where multiple-week #1s have traded the top spot back-and-forth with each other. And speaking of back-and-forths, Katy breaks free from her back-and-forth up the chart with Lady Gaga, and takes the week's biggest jump up five to #12. Pink's biggest drop of the week doubles that, and equals her drop from last week. I'm strangely feeling a little uninspired at the moment, so I'm going to cut the commentary short for this week. Until next week... :) -Mike

The top of your chart feels like I went back several months in time lol I'm currently in an odd sort of transitional phase - I'm still adjusting to having a Top 40 rather than something smaller. I will say that having multiple songs too good to ignore even if they weren't huge hits is unusual even for me, but that's just what happens to be "in" for me right now. Of course, with Drake and Lorde there will be nowhere to go but down, and "Rock & Roll" can only last so much longer with "Let Me Go" on its way up as well. With Britney I don't have to care as much since I still love "Work Bitch!" and don't even care for "Perfume" at all. P.S. This week's chart should be up shortly. :)

Two weeks ago, I pointed out that Britney became the second AT40 guest host to be at #1 the same week they hosted. Don't count on scrolling down to discover that that also happened for Katy Perry this week , though she does have the Biggest Mover once again this week... Mike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: December 21, 2013 TW | LW | WOC | Artist | Title | Peak | 40 | -- | 1 | Disclosure featuring Sam Smith | Latch | 40 | 39 | -- | 1 | Chris Wallace | Keep Me Crazy | 39 | 38 | 28 | 12 | Emeli Sande | My Kind of Love | 18 | 37 | 37 | 2 | Camryn | LoveSick | 37 | 36 | 40 | 2 | Colbie Caillat | Hold On | 36 | 35 | 31 | 8 | Melanie B | For Once in My Life | 31 | 34 | 36 | 3 | Gavin DeGraw | Make a Move | 34 | 33 | 35 | 5 | Bastille | Pompeii | 33 | 32 | 34 | 5 | Michaela May | When You Say | 32 | 31 | 33 | 4 | Eminem featuring Rihanna | The Monster | 31 | 30 | 32 | 6 | The Fray | Love Don't Die | 30 | 29 | 25 | 17 | Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Mary Lambert | Same Love | 1 (5) | 28 | 20 | 16 | Tegan & Sara | Closer | 8 | 27 | 30 | 6 | The 1975 | Chocolate | 27 | 26 | 27 | 8 | Daughtry | Waiting For Superman | 26 | 25 | 29 | 6 | Fitz & The Tantrums | Out of My League | 25 | 24 | 18 | 17 | Lady Gaga | Applause | 1 (1) | 23 | 26 | 7 | Steve Grand | Stay | 23 | 22 | 24 | 7 | Avril Lavigne featuring Chad Kroeger | Let Me Go | 22 | 21 | 23 | 9 | Lana Del Rey | Young & Beautiful | 21 | 20 | 22 | 12 | Mary Lambert | She Keeps Me Warm | 20 | 19 | 13 | 17 | Train featuring Ashley Monroe | Bruises | 1 (1) | 18 | 21 | 10 | Five For Fighting | What If | 18 | 17 | 11 | 16 | Paramore | Still Into You | 4 | 16 | 19 | 12 | Zedd featuring Hayley Williams | Stay the Night | 16 | 15 | 17 | 12 | Avicii featuring Adam Lambert & Nile Rodgers | Lay Me Down | 15 | 14 | 16 | 9 | Lady Gaga featuring R. DROPPERS:Pink featuring Lily Allen - True Love (from 39) Zendaya - Replay (from 38) Speaking of Britney...the Bitch just won't stop Working. :'( She also makes chart history this week by having the first song to hit #1, fall out, then return to #1 - not once, but twice! Many songs have done this - hell, Britney and Avril aren't even the first two to have songs trade #1 back and forth for a bit. But no one, until this week, had hit #1, fallen out, returned to #1, fallen out again, then returned to #1 again! Suffice it to say that Britney's enjoying her biggest hit on my chart yet. Katy might be leaping from 12 to 6 this week, but even with as great of a song as Unconditionally is, she will not find the path to the top nearly so easily traveled from here on out. Meanwhile, knocking on death's door is the week's Biggest Dropper Emeli Sande, down 10 notches. Hayley goes back-to-back this week in the middle of the Top 20, but I'm starting to think that "Stay the Night" will not be as big of a hit here as either "Clarity" or "Still Into You" were. Even with as good of a song as it is, the field's grown intensely more competitive in the weeks since it landed here. Also showing signs of trouble is Daughtry. Since reaching the Top 30 four weeks ago, they've gone up only one step at a time since, and "Out of My League" is now the third song to leapfrog it in that four-week span. And...that should do it for this week's chart talk. Until next week... :) -Mike

Britney tries for a fifth week on top, while one of her immediate challengers, Armin van Buuren, debuts with a new one. Meanwhile, an R&B songstress from the 2000s returns to the Top 10 after eight years (and change) away. All this and more as my final chart of 2013 begins... ...right now. :) Mike's Top 40 For the Week Ending: December 28, 2013 TW | LW | WOC | Artist | Title | Peak | 40 | -- | 1 | Armin van Buuren featuring Cindy Alma | Don't Want to Fight Love Away | 40 | 39 | -- | 1 | Duke Dumont featuring A.M.E. | Need U (100%) | 39 | 38 | 40 | 2 | Disclosure featuring Sam Smith | Latch | 38 | 37 | 28 | 17 | Tegan & Sara | Closer | 8 | 36 | 39 | 2 | Chris Wallace | Keep Me Crazy | 36 | 35 | 37 | 3 | Camryn | LoveSick | 35 | 34 | 34 | 4 | Gavin DeGraw | Make a Move | 34 | 33 | 33 | 6 | Bastille | Pompeii | 33 | 32 | 29 | 18 | Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Mary Lambert | Same Love | 1 (5) | 31 | 36 | 3 | Colbie Caillat | Hold On | 31 | 30 | 32 | 6 | Michaela May | When You Say | 30 | 29 | 24 | 18 | Lady Gaga | Applause | 1 (1) | 28 | 31 | 5 | Eminem featuring Rihanna | The Monster | 28 | 27 | 19 | 18 | Train featuring Ashley Monroe | Bruises | 1 (1) | 26 | 30 | 7 | The Fray | Love Don't Die | 26 | 25 | 17 | 17 | Paramore | Still Into You | 4 | 24 | 26 | 9 | Daughtry | Waiting For Superman | 24 | 23 | 20 | 13 | Mary Lambert | She Keeps Me Warm | 20 | 22 | 27 | 7 | The 1975 | Chocolate | 22 | 21 | 25 | 7 | Fitz & The Tantrums | Out of My League | 21 | 20 | 23 | 8 | Steve Grand | Stay | 20 | 19 | 22 | 8 | Avril Lavigne featuring Chad Kroeger | Let Me Go | 19 | 18 | 21 | 10 | Lana Del Rey | Young & Beautiful | 18 | 17 | 18 | 11 | Five For Fighting | What If | 17 | 16 | 9 | 18 | Drake featuring Majid Jordan | Hold On, We're Going Home | 3 | 15 | 16 | 13 | Zedd featuring Hayley Williams | Stay the Night | 15 | 14 | 11 | 18 | Sara Bareilles | Brave | 1 (3) | 13 | 15 | 13 | Avicii featuring Adam Lambert & Nile Rodgers | Lay Me Down | 13 | 12 | 7 | 18 | Lorde | Royals | 4 | 11 | 14 | 10 | Lady Gaga featuring R. DROPPERS:Emeli Sande - My Kind of Love (from 38) Melanie B - For Once in My Life (from 35) Yes, Britney drops out of #1 once again...and this time, she will not be returning. Meanwhile, Calvin Harris sees his first #1 in his own right this week as "Thinking About You" goes to the top. Staying there will not be easy, as he's got Armin/Trevor, Christina, and Katy all breathing down his neck. Actually, in truth, this is probably the toughest Top 10 yet since I went to a Top 40. Not counting the two that have already been there, there's only two, maybe three songs currently up there that really don't have any chance of going all the way to the top. And right outside the Top 10 are "Do What U Want" and "Lay Me Down", also itching to make a run for it. Suffice it to say, it'll be at least a month before anyone below that has a real shot to reach the upper tier (meaning the Top 10). Meanwhile, Colbie Caillat and The 1975 share Big Mover honors this week with their five-notch jumps (the latter of which becoming the latest to leapfrog Daughtry), as Tegan & Sara take the week's Biggest Drop down nine. With the bulletless songs in the middle of the chart, it's going to feel like rush hour there for a little while as songs go moving upward only to slow down with the tough Top 10 in the way. And...that should do it for this week's chart talk. As I won't be having a year-end chart due to the six-month layoff this year, we'll see you all in 2014! :) -Mike
