I'm curious to see which song reaches the top first: the Clear Channel-enhanced "I Want Crazy" or this. My money is on this. Oh, it won't even be a contest. Luke will beat Hunter to the summit by several weeks. Clear Channel chose to go with the Hunter song last Monday for some reason, but Luke's gotten 107 adds on Mediabase, and Hunter's at 89. Throw out the Clear Channel day, and Luke out-gained Hunter every day last week. Now Hunter will lose a big chunk of audience tomorrow, but Luke won't. It really puts into perspective just how silly that Clear Channel deal is, doesn't it? Hunter will have to work hard all week to gain back the airplay he'll lose on Monday (today, so tomorrow's update), but Luke will just keep steam-rolling ahead. Luke debuted less than 3 million behind Hunter on Billboard tonight, and I predict that he'll pass him on Mediabase possibly as early as tomorrow, and Luke should also move ahead on next Monday's Billboard chart. I think he'll stay ahead for good too, and only pull away. Hunter's song will no doubt go up pretty fast, but not as fast as Luke will.

Didn't expect him to start his new era with a ballad. I like this, but it's not even close to being my favorite single from him.

It's a good song, but it's certainly not one of my favorites from him. It doesn't really stand out to me. With that said, he's one of those artists right now that can sing just about anything and it will be guaranteed a hit.

With that said, he's one of those artists right now that can sing just about anything and it will be guaranteed a hit. Luke Bryan figured out that if it works well for Blake Shelton, he might as well go in that direction. After all, BOTH artists are the reigning Entertainers of the Year from the A.C.M. and C.M.A., respectively.

This is already at #18 on the airplay chart. So it's moving pretty swiftly.

Does any one know if there will be a video for this song? I *thought* I saw a day or two ago that the video for this will continue the theme of the videos for Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye & Drunk On You (I think those were the two) with the same girl and a continuation of the story in those videos? I don't have a source for that but I do remember seeing it mentioned somewhere. In any event, I can't imagine why there wouldn't be a video. I like the song, by the way, & Luke's voice is great on it. An AC-type ballad surprised me also as a lead single to a much anticipated new album, but on the other hand Luke does this type of thing well so I can see his team not wanting to mix it up much. Didn't he do an interview a while back where he said he thought he'd learned & grown so much as a songwriter and singer on this next album? So maybe he'll be trying something a little different or just writing better AC ballads (lol).

It's possible that they decided to release this first to distinguish this new album from the material on Spring Break. Big AC power ballads have proven popular at country radio lately too, and with an ample amount of summer songs from other artists hitting the airwaves, this may have made the most sense (as in, it's different from his Spring Break material and it's not one of many summery songs, so the thought may have been that CMP would stand out at radio a little more).
That said, this song bores me to tears. The lyrics are pretty generic and much like Tyler Farr's "Redneck Crazy", the different lines don't all seem to fit together. The little 'bridge' line "If it’s 2 in the morning and you’re feeling lonely and wondering what I’m doing..." comes across very awkwardly-phrased to me and it doesn't seem to fit into the melody at all (it reminds me of the line "I'm the kind that shows up at your house at 3am" in Farr's "Redneck Crazy"; it just doesn't flow well, at least to my ears).
I'm only a casual Luke fan, and this is miles better than "Country Girl (Shake It For Me)" and it's definitely better than some of his other bottom-of-the-barrel tunes (which, for me, are "Country Man" and "Rain Is A Good Thing") as well, but this song is just too plain and boring for me. I heard "All My Friends Say" on the radio the other day...I miss 'that' Luke. I even heard "We Rode In Trucks" once a couple weeks ago. Hopefully the rest of the Crash My Party album is better than its title track..

Luke put out an LBTV today where he talked a bit about his new album. Basically just said he think it's great and the best album he's ever put together and that he enjoyed listening to songs from other people since he didn't write that much of this album.

This morning, couldn't help but notice that Luke Bryan debuts at #8 on Mediabase/Aircheck on the chart but this is very wrong and that he is 3 million less in audience then yesterday's update, is behind Eric Church ("Like Jesus Does" and The Band Perry ("DONE."), has a little over 400 less in spins, and his bullet is way down. It has to be a glitch on his behalf, this song is way too hot and actually is #6, not #8, Eric Church is the one at #8 right now with TBP at #7. Thought I would let everyone know about the mistake I have discovered with Luke's update this morning.

Hopefully it's just a Mediabase glitch. Otherwise the abrupt 400 spins loss in one day is some bizarre chart manipulation....especially since it's been consistently gaining +100 spins the past week.
Other possibility is a panel change. I notice HotAC chart had some strange activity today. Possibly we lost a few country stations from the panel??

No panel change. The only way this can be explained is that it's a glitch. A panel change would affect everyone, and Kworb's site shows Luke's # of days on the chart as "1", so it's definitely a glitch. It might fix itself in the afternoon update.

The AllAccess chart shows the same loss for Luke. Seems to me like they are asking radio stations to give Luke's spins to "Like Jesus Does" in hopes of getting Eric back into the top 5 quickly. Otherwise, Eric would be hanging around the #6-#8 range for much too long.
But I do see the panel change as a slight possibility. Tim's duet with Taylor lost a considerable amount of audience, and the label has still been pushing it all week (not sure if this is just a natural collapse or what). Jake, Brad, and Brantley had considerably small gains, and Eric had a large audience loss. Even Blake has had a much smaller day than what would be expected considering no one else in the top 10 other than TBP gained much today and the current #1 song is really starting to fall. Looking down the chart, a lot of songs are having bad days today. Could be normal fluctuations, but this seems like a lot of songs to lose audience the same day. I guess more songs would have been affected more greatly if it were a panel change, but this isn't a Kworb glitch, because AllAccess has posted the same numbers.

It's not a panel change. That would've affected everyone. I'm 99.9% confident that it was a glitch. The numbers were completely reset on Kworb's page, which imports the numbers directly from the Mediabase servers. Kworb now has the # of days that CMP has been on the chart set as "1", which obviously is incorrect. The peak audience column show's today's 41.868 total, even though it was 44.374 yesterday. There's no way Luke's tune suddenly lost 2.5 million overnight and 500 spins, especially considering that everyone else's numbers are normal. My guess is that all of Luke's numbers will be corrected in tomorrow's update.

Yep, Mediabase fixed it and it's now #4 (ahead of Brad Paisley already!!) Yet the album release is 2 months away and Capitol hasn't even released the music video yet. What's taking so long??

Just heard Rain Is a Good Thing earlier today. I had forgotten that Luke used to not always do spacey, somber midtempos. I like that midtempo sound, but as of this song it's starting to get a little overdone.

^ Luke is now performing his new single "My Kinda Night" during his Dirt Road Diaries tour. Hopefully it's an uptempo like "Rain Is A Good Thing"? He hasn't released that style of song in awhile.
Anyone know more details than what I have?

Listen to the live version of "My Kinda Night" HERE. I've been more impressed by live video versions before that's for sure. But I'll wait to hear the studio version a few times to finalize my judgement.

I dislike this song. Many friends who claim that Luke Bryan is their favorite artist find it mediocre. This song is doing pretty terrible on Callout America. Yet because it's a Luke Bryan lead single to likely the biggest album of his career, this will obviously find a way to at least one and likely 2 weeks at the top while Jake's #2 song and Brad's #3 song on Callout America may be forced to take a Mediabase-only #1 or miss the top all together. I'm not a big fan of Brad's but it is at least better than this. I can complain about BRH all I want, but at least the general populace loves that and that is why it is being played. It's not all because he's Blake Shelton.
The charts don't surprise me, but what does is the seemingly aggregate positive reaction from this board which usually holds the proclaimed mainstream stars to a decently high standard and rightfully so. "My Kinda Night" does not impress me much either.
And also, when Luke says there are 8 single-worthy tracks, that concerns me because this and MKN do not sound like good single choices to me. Even though I didn't love IDWTNTE and KTG from that last era, at least they sounded somewhat single-worthy.

I have very little doubt that this will miss the penthouse, as well as subsequent releases from the album. I'll go ahead and echo someone's sentiment of "What happened to 'Dirt Road Diary'?" as both a song and album title; hopefully it'll still be on the album. I find titling the album after this song to be a pretty lazy effort coming off of creative titles like I'll Stay Me, Doin' My Thing, and tailgates and tanlines. I want to root for him and support his career, but I'm afraid that I may not have enough enthusiasm in me to do so. CMP is somewhat decent, yet predictable and most likely not that good of a sign for things to come on this Crash My Party album. The only thing that may grab my attention after this is done would be a raw country, almost bluegrass-oriented follow-up...hey, a dude can dream, right?

Even though I didn't love IDWTNTE and KTG from that last era, at least they sounded somewhat single-worthy. Radio isn't playing this just because he's Luke Bryan. If that were the case and there were no fan support at all, he would not have gone top 5 (I'd say top 10 at the best). The song is selling very well, having achieved enough first week downloads to debut at #2 on Hot Country Songs (blocked from achieving Garth Brooks' historical accomplishment of a #1 debut by "Cruise" due to the pop remix), and it is #7 on the Radiofeedback chart. While the folks on this board aren't crazy about it, Luke is at that point in his career now where he just has an enormous fan base. Listeners love this song, and it would be foolish for PD's not to make this an instant #1 hit. But I agree that "My Kinda Night" is not very impressing. Luke's music is becoming increasingly monotonous, but at least he hasn't gotten to the point where his music is just downright awful, as I think Jason Aldean, Brad Paisley, and Blake Shelton have done as of late.

^It didn't debut at #2 on the mongrel chart. It debuted at #35 the previous week (week of April 20), then moved up to #2 in its second week thanks to the first week downloads. So Nelly didn't prevent Luke from matching Garth. :)

I LOVE the new song "My Kinda Night" - why are people hating on it?? Although Luke messed up on the lyrics/vocals for parts of the song, I paid more attention to the melody and beats and those were very impressive!! Dallas Davidson did a fantastic job infusing rhythmic top 40 beats into country lyrics - which should make this a summer anthem with young country listeners.
Interesting that he gave Conway & T-Pain shoutout during the 2nd verse. Possible rap remix in the works like "Cruise" (except Luke will use T-Pain instead of Nelly)?
