I don't hate "My Kinda Night" by any means. I just feel it is mundane and uninteresting. I was a huge fan of Luke's "Tailgates and Tanlines" era, even though the releases lacked much lyrical substance, and I absolutely adored Luke's "Doin' My Thing" album, but I am growing tired of Luke's style with these recent singles. He has a beautiful voice, and I wish he'd use it to sing about something different. I doubt "Crash My Party" and "My Kinda Night" will be remembered after this year. Neither is Song of the Year material and, while Luke's music may sell well and get lots of airplay, he needs something with either a really good hook (such as "drunk on you, and high on summertime") or something with really deep and meaningful lyrics if he wants to really have a tremendous impact on the country format rather than simply enjoying a few years of being "the fad" as I see it (sort of like Jason Aldean). Brad Paisley, Tim McGraw, and Kenny Chesney, while having their fun songs, produced a lot of really inspirational and meaningful hits, too, which is why their careers have lasted so long.
Actually, I could end up really enjoying "My Kinda Night." I can't really judge a song too well from hearing a live version.

This is kinda growing on me. There's something about his voice and charisma that draws me in on a lot of his songs, even when they're not the best. I still think Drunk On You and Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye were a lot better, but I like this more than the first two singles from Tailgates & Tanlines. I do enjoy his vocals a lot more than many of today's "hot" country male artists, so I just wish his musical output would be a little better to reflect that and maybe I'd become interested in buying his music as oppose to just leaving his song on when it comes on the radio.

My favorite of all the new songs he sang on Dirt Road Diaries tour was "Drink a Beer". It's a very personal song about the death of a loved one. During the live performance, you can really see the emotions flowing and he must be thinking of the deaths of his brother (car accident) and his sister (brain tumor). The song got a huge crowd reaction even though no one had heard the song before - mainly because the performance was so personal.
It'll be interesting if Capitol Records will take a big risk and release this song as the third single. It's so drastically different from anything he's released to radio. It could flop and not perform well on country radio, or it could be the "Over You" of 2014 and dominate the ACMs/CMAs.

It's about time I become a fan of a Luke Bryan single release, although I'm certainly not opposed to CMP by any means. This is definitely something fresh and very emotional, and I hope it sees the light of day at radio. I can't see it being the "Over You" at the awards shows, but I can see it doing very well. Let's pray that nothing ever becomes an "Over You" at awards shows ever again, actually. That was too much overkill.

I want to root for Luke, but after this recent output (including that live performance of "Drink a Beer"), I don't see myself veering far out of "casual fan" territory any time soon.

The new album is officially out on August 13th. www.cmt.com/news/news-in-brief/1709635/luke-bryans-new-album-to-arrive-in-august.jhtml"I decided Crash My Party was perfect for this album because, like the song, the album goes beyond the literal meaning of the title. The song isn't what you think it is. It is unexpected, and I think in the same way fans will definitely hear some surprises on my new album. It still reflects my sound, but you will get to hear a little bit deeper, different side to me musically, as well." Here's an example clip of the new sound that Luke is experimenting with the new album. The song is called "Blood Brothers" written by Brett James. I'm very excited that Luke has recruited some new songwriters! :)

Officially the Billboard #1. I'm guessing it will probably top one of the charts again next week. Still has a little room to grow despite extraordinarily high numbers. Just so young. Also Greatest Gainer is "Night Train" at #27.

The 12-week climb to #1 @ Billboard makes this the fastest-rising #1 single of his career; congratulations are definitely in order, and a second week atop the Mediabase chart would appear to be a pretty safe bet.

Song has BROKEN RECORDS BIG TIME!!!!
BDS at 45.5 (45.490 on actual chart) million- Billboard Country Airplay Update (July 8th)
This morning's Mediabase update has it STILL GAINING!!! NOW over 54 million in audience.
With this song's lead over Band Perry, I see it having 3 weeks easily on Billboard and 2 weeks on Mediabase. Song is a MONSTER at Radio and radio loves it!!

Do you mean three total weeks at #1 or three addition weeks to its 2 already, because I could see possibly up to 3 more weeks due to the extremely high numbers.

Now regarding a 4th week atop the chart for Country Airplay and Mediabase is still too early to tell since things can change quickly within the next week or so. The Band Perry is STILL gaining as well, just not as big or quick as Luke, who is bound to start losing spins and audience here real soon since there is not much more room to gain, so he will start to lose in return here come the next couple of days. Republic Nashville could still push TBP for next week, not this week for #1 for chart 8-3-13. DON'T COUNT OUT TBP JUST YET!!! It is not DONE. :)

Luke is so far ahead of DONE in both audience and spins that it looks like he could be at #1 for another, imo, 1-3 weeks! Luke has had 2 weeks at #1 on Billboard now, and he might get a 3rd...maybe. I'm not completely convinced yet, but it does help him that TBP had a very weak week. Still, Luke can't really gain much more. A 3rd week at #1 is indeed possible, but any more after that is highly, highly unlikely. He's at record audience levels--impressive no doubt, even with the bigger panel--but he won't be able to stay this high for too long.

I understand that he can't stay at record high levels for very long, but even a first week drop, to me, doesn't seem like it will be enough to knock him off the top for another week or two.

I understand that he can't stay at record high levels for very long, but even a first week drop, to me, doesn't seem like it will be enough to knock him off the top for another week or two. I still see Republic Nashville still waiting it out for this week but once they see Luke starting to drop in audience and spins, I see the label pushing TBP to the top for one last strong push. It won't be a ridiculous push like recent pushes alas like their push for Taylor Swift's "Begin Again" or earlier pushes like Rascal Flatts's "Easy" which were pushed for #1 on Billboard but both came up short. I see Republic Nashville still giving "DONE." one final push, and that will occur this next week. jhomes87 may be able to explain better then me regarding these chart manipulations, but honestly I can't say Luke will be at #1 for a fourth week. I think he will be dropping way before than.

I understand that he can't stay at record high levels for very long, but even a first week drop, to me, doesn't seem like it will be enough to knock him off the top for another week or two. Most songs in their first drop week lose about 3-4 million. He does have a big lead over TBP, but it's not that huge (4.5 million). The song is young and put up a gain today, but I think he'll level off in at most 2-3 days, and start falling by the weekend. After looking at the morning numbers--and I know we're only 1 day into the new week--I'd give Luke a 75% chance of hanging on for a 3rd week at #1 on Billboard (and 2nd week on MB), but a 4th week? I see no way that his lead can hold up for 2 more weeks yet. Luke will undoubtedly be falling in a week's time, and even if CMP only loses 1-2 million, it wouldn't take much of a push at all from TBP to surpass Luke. TBP is co-hosting CC-USA on the 20th/21st, so as long as they keep posting even small gains this week, it won't be too difficult for them to post a 2-3 million gain next week, and with Luke falling, he'd easily meet them in the middle and then fall below, resulting in a move from #2 to #1 for "Done" on Monday the 22nd. The Zac Brown Band is the wild card in all this, as they've been closing in quickly, but I suspect it's because they're ready to release new music soon. In any case, despite my initial concerns for TBP's weak week this past week, I can't see Republic Nashville not making a play at #1. I'm interpreting today's update as Republic ceding a 3rd week to Luke (they likely heard rumblings that Capitol would be going hard for a 3rd week at the top), but I fully expect Republic to keep TBP moving upward this week (again, even if it's only small gains) as they aim to overtake Luke next week.

I respect what both of you, jhomes87 and rbundy1987 said, and I understand, I'm not saying that he absolutely will get a fourth week at #1, to me I'm just saying it looks possible. Mind you, I'm in no way a chart expert, I just watch, but couldn't tell you why things happen. Another thought, albeit premature, does anyone see this being a single of the year contender at the CMA's?

TBP's weak week this past week, First things first: your wording here made me giggle uncontrollably for 5 minutes. Now I'm thinking this will easily get a 3rd week, though like Jhomes always says this could change in the very next update but It's such a young song that I doubt Capitol will waste the oppourtunity. Plus they have seemingly just pulled Dierks' single, while Lady Antebellum and Keith Urban look like they're going to slightly underperform, so they may as well put most of their resources behind this for now and get that rare 3rd week.

So are the charts relatively BS? Song airplay is manipulated by the record companies...meaning chart watching is not much different than watching a reality show on TV? Songs may be cruising along, and all of a sudden it is like all the radio stations are in collusion and decide that we are not going to play that song anymore and it drops all at once. I am no chart expert, but this has a feel of following a script...like WWE wrestling. The term #1 song is loosely thrown around all over. Yeah, I am sure that artists and record companies love being #1. However, there are so so many different type charts these days, that being #1 on a revolving door is kind of ho-hum. I don't know how much an artist + record company gets for each spin, but I assume that it is the sales charts (and concerts + merchandise) that woos artists and record companies.

Not that surprised about a Target edition coming out, considering I heard about it on the radio along with the titles of the four bonus tracks on my way home from work. CMT's website has them listed as "What Is It With You", "Sunburnt Lips", "Better Than My Heart", and "Your Mama Should've Named You Whiskey". Since those titles are going public, we should be hearing about the standard track listing soon.

I understand that he can't stay at record high levels for very long, but even a first week drop, to me, doesn't seem like it will be enough to knock him off the top for another week or two. There's an illusion here. The gap between the top two songs looks bigger than it is. Let's say Luke Bryan stays at #1 for a third week with a 4 million lead over Band Perry on Billboard. Looks like he's likely to get a 4th week, but if he loses even 400k a day -- and he'll likely average more than that -- and Band Perry gains 300k a day -- they've probably got that much of a push left in them -- that's a swing of 700k a day. Times 7 days would be about a 5 million swing, which you have to reduce a little to account for the Billboard-vs-Mediabase differences, but the 4 million gap went away fast, didn't it? And I expect Luke's song will average a bigger loss than 400k a day. It's not hard to make up a gap of 4 or 5 million when one song's gaining and the other's "doing its share" by dropping. If Luke could just stay still, he'd get the 4th week. And you can tell yourself that that isn't outside the realm of possibility -- but it's not very likely. Travel back in time a decade and you'll have all the 5- and 6-week #1 songs you could hope to find, but it doesn't happen in the 2013 environment.

50.617 SPSPW for this tune, breaking the record he set with a previous single of his; I'm not sure which one, but I'm sure someone else can identify that tune.
