THREE HORSE RACE: Look for a spirited battle for the #1 spot on next week’s HITS Album chart among XL’s Vampire Weekend, Hollywood’s Demi Lovato and MCA Nashville old standby George Strait, who is definitely the dark horse in this three-way race. All three should top six figures. Stay tuned to HITS’ Building Album Chart and this Rumor Mill to handicap the rundown to next Tuesday. (5/14p)
YOUR ONE-DAYS: Vampire Weekend seems to have pulled ahead of the pack in the race for next week's #1 album. Here are this week's key debuts:
Vampire Weekend (XL) 120-130k Demi Lovato (Hollywood) 105-115k George Strait (MCA Nashville) 105-115k Amy Grant (Amy Grant/Sparrow) 25-30k Trace Adkins (Show Dog) 22-25k
Meanwhile, at UMPG, a "vampire weekend" is what happens when you eat three of those weird-tasting lollipops on Friday afternoon and then get locked in the building. (5/15p)
YOUR TOP 15: As we informed you yesterday, Vampire Weekend wins the week and lands at #1. Right below, we could see a battle for the #2 spot depending on how this weekend trends. Here's how it looks at midweek:
*Vampire Weekend (XL) 125-135k *George Strait (MCA Nashville) 115-120k *Demi Lovato (Hollywood) 110-115k Great Gatsby Soundtrack (Interscope) 90-95k Lady Antebellum (Capitol Nashville) 60-65k Now 46 (Capitol) 50-55k Justin Timberlake (RCA) 40-45k Michael Buble (Reprise) 40-45k Pistol Annies (RCA Nashville) 30-35k Kenny Chesney (Blue Chair/Columbia) 27-30k *Amy Grant (Amy Grant/Sparrow) 25-28k Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (Macklemore) 24-27k Blake Shelton (Warner Bros. Nashville) 22-25k Imagine Dragons (Interscope) 22-25k *Trace Adkins (Show Dog) 22-25k
* Debuts
Speaking of the weekend, the staff of UMPG recommends easing into it--start with no more than three or four fatties and THEN power up the Vape, GPen and retrofitted fog machine. And remember to shove that rolled-up towel securely under the office door. (5/16p)
THREE-WAY RACE: Look for XL's Vampire Weekend to do its best first week ever to edge out MCA Nashville's George Strait and Hollywood's Demi Lovato for the top spot on tomorrow's HITS Album Sales chart, which begins its countdown this morning here as soon as our crack retail staff gets out of bed. All three will be in six figures, with the winner boasting up to 135k. Stay tuned as the results come in. (5/20a)

I would love for George to get the top spot but I'm just thrilled he might top 100K with his 27th studio effort.

I'm hoping Vampire Weekend takes this - the album is phenomenal It'd be cool to see them get the #1 spot, but even if not, I'm glad they're going to open over 100k again. Looking at the old Billboard article from their previous debut week, Contra opened with 124k. Be cool if this one could do the same or more.

Expected that Vampire Weekend would ultimately come out at #1 looking at their pre-orders last week but good sales for Demi regardless.

^ I don't understand. All of her albums have debuted in the top 4. She's already had a #1 album. Decent/expected sales.

Demi's sales are good. Hopefully with a solid second single the album can go gold

Nevermind. He's stuck in that ATRL state of mind. That ATRL 'logic' doesn't work here.

Excellent numbers for George Strait, considering his last album opened with 91k. His sales don't place him among the top tier of sellers in country today, but he doesn't exactly appeal to that young crowd and the newer sounds in country music. All in all, I'm very pleased with his projected opening numbers.

I'm pleasantly surprised with Demi's numbers! Heart Attack is still growing on radio and it's not like she has an aggresive fanbase. Good for her!

Yes because the general public obviously flocked out to buy a Demi Lovato song within a couple hours of its release... She's had one hit. "Skyscraper" she had nothing in the eyes of the public. Her fanbase is what gets her songs so high so quickly. Obviously.
