Is Love Somebody going to be a hit? It's my favorite song off the album. I think it should be huge, but usually when I think that, i'm wrong.

I will say that it was not my choice for the 4th single - I wanted Lucky Strike or The Man Who Never Lied - but it seems to be picking up nicely...I think it will go top 10, or at the very least top 20. I love the longevity of this album! When did it come out - September?

I'm not expecting it to sell that much more than 1 million, but I think it's going to be a big airplay hit for them and help move some more albums, which IMO is really good for a fourth single 11 months after the album release.

3.605 million - Taylor Swift - We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together (10k - #188)
A bit off topic but am I the only one who thinks these are pretty low numbers for such a hit?

I think the main reason is the front-loaded sales. It opened with over 600k. You can see the exact same with the first two singles from The Black Eyed Peas' "The E.N.D". BBP did start with high sales but died off quickly. It can be the "over-exposion" of the single if that term exists. IGF was a consistent seller after debuting with a little bit lower sales, totally IKYWT. You can see the digital sales every week, how "Party In The USA" slayed IGF, but it was always there for the second half of 2009. The only difference is that IKYWT had the holiday boost.

Boom Boom Pow has sold over 6 million though. It used to be the 4th best selling song until STIUTK, CMM, WAY, PRA, RITD, etc. came along. BBP and WANEGBT are not comparable in the sales department. Maybe at the beginning, but BBP had great longevity which WANEGBT did not.

Idk then. I wanted to come up with a good example but I still think this is a good one, because the first two singles for both albums are almost PROPORTIONAL to each other. I can't find a similar case in "Red's cathegory".
"Diamonds" -"Stay" maybe? By the time goes...

But, WANEGBT helped fuel a 1.2 million debut week for the album, so that probably offsets a few things.

Taylor's song was a victim of "Complete My Album", meaning that the week after the album was released, the digital total for "We Are..." decreased heavily.

Also, iirc the hits from Justin Bieber's Believe era have followed the same pattern.. 'Boyfriend' sold less than 'As Long As You Love Me' in the end.

I don't know what screen you're looking at, but from my perspective 3.6 million seems to be a pretty solid (great, actually) figure. It's not as if it is heralded as some colossal ("Call Me Maybe", "I Gotta Feeling") sized hit. Where are the expectations when 3.6 million is considered "pretty low"? lol

"Boom Boom Pow" is one of the top ten highest selling digital singles of all time while "I Gotta Feeling" is the highest selling digital single of all time. The only one to surpass 8 million, in fact. (Though Adele & LMFAO aren't too far away that figure.)

"All time" of course is basically 8 years Yes, but that doesn't take away from my point. Wasn't trying to do that. I labeled my Digital Sales thread as Top Selling Digital Songs Since 2005 rather than 'all-time' for a reason. The phrase 'all-time' seems weird to me when desribing the best of something that is still fairly new.

I guess we should label all Billboard records something like "the biggest hit since 1958" then.

It is correct to say "of all time" when talking about digital-track sales- but, people should keep in mind the start of the digital era. Same with highest such-and-such sales- in the SoundScan era, of course. :)

In the entire history of this chart no song has been able to stay on for more than 20 weeks. The following songs are the all-time leaders: Gangnam Style, PSY Thrift Shop, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Featuring Wanz Radioactive, Imagine Dragons Sail, AWOLNATION F**kin Problems, A$AP Rocky Featuring Drake, 2 Chainz & Kendrick Lamar Call Me Maybe, Carly Rae Jepsen Scream & Shout, will.i.am & Britney Spears
