This was posted in the "Greatest Hits" album thread.... Don't know if this means anything or if it's new info, but "Tie It Up" is listed on Mediabase and AllAccess (no audio, though), and the latter shows the label as RCA/Columbia Nashville, with no mention of 19. I apologize, I'm not sure whether to ask this in the Artist by Label thread or this one. I've been curious about this since Mr. Know It All was being pushed to country, RCA Nashville was handling that and at some point before Don't Rush was released, she was moved over to Columbia Nashville. I know no one knows all the details but many of you are far smarter about this stuff than I am, what kind of deal do you think she's working with here? Is there a separate deal working in conjunction with her main RCA contract? Is Columbia Nashville only there for promotional purposes? Even though she doesn't appear on Columbia's (or Sony Nashville's) website, I often see the promo people include her in their tweets along with Kenny, Casey James and Tyler Farr. I'm well aware of all the politics involved but her inclusion on the Sony boat at CRS earlier this year makes me think it's something more than just a strictly promo deal, am I off base with that?

I don't think she has a separate deal with Sony Nashville, but I can't say for sure. I guess, the way I see it, it's just logical for Kelly to get country promotion from one of the Sony Nashville labels because she is a Sony artist, just not with the Nashville/country division or whatever you want to call it. She obviously wouldn't get country promotion from one of the other big labels (UMG or Warner).
Maybe she signed some sort of clause, though, that just states that one of the Sony Nashville imprints will work her tunes to country radio if/when she has plans to release a country song. As for RCA/Columbia, I think RCA got MKIA because the RCA team didn't have as much on their plate then...they really only had singles for Miranda, Chris, and Jake, and I think Love & Theft as well, but they're still a lesser-known act. When DR was out, RCA was working those same 4 artists plus Tate Stevens and the Pistol Annies, and they also have Bush Hawg out on their radio tour now. Columbia (formerly BNA) has always had fewer artists than Arista and RCA have had, so with Casey James' debut 'era' winding down, and Kenny being such a big star that he doesn't need a ton of help from the promo team, all that Columbia was really working on was Tyler Farr's breakthrough hit.

This is in the iTunes database now, so I'd guess it'll be out Tuesday.

I appreciate your answer, as always, and I guess that's the way I was leaning with all this. So here would be another question if this is indeed how it's set up, who would be calling the shots on what's getting recorded and released to country? Her main RCA people, the country team and/or management? I guess it'd probably a combo of them all, although I'm recalling an interview she did during the ACM rounds where she said people (label & management) were skittish about her performing Ain't Gonna Like This at the two CRS events that's making me wonder. Sorry for the rambling, this crossing over thing is interesting to me, especially since she's actively working two genres at the same time and not dropping one for the other. It's been a long time since someone has done it.

Sounds really promising. Cannot wait for the studio version. It sounds very Alanis at times and some parts sound like a slowed down "You Oughta Know".

I'm well aware of all the politics involved but her inclusion on the Sony boat at CRS earlier this year makes me think it's something more than just a strictly promo deal, am I off base with that? The way jhomes87 explained could be right, but I do know that when EMI Christian Music Group (now Capitol Christian Music Group) promoted one of their artists, Britt Nicole, to CHR/Top 40 earlier this year, she actually signed a separate record deal with Capitol Records and was essentially signed to both EMI CMG and Capitol at the same time. This could have been more or less what Jhomes said about Kelly signing some clause for promotion (and maybe also future distribution if she ever releases a solely country project), but from what Capitol CMG has told me it sounded like Britt Nicole had a dual record deal. Now since Kelly's labels are both under the Sony Music Group umbrella, its essentially just a record deal with Sony with connection to the Pop and Country divisions of the label for promotions to the respective formats. But regardless, Kelly is a Sony Music Nashville recording artist.

That would make sense too, I guess time will tell. The way she's been talking it sounds like this isn't just a short term thing she's doing so a dual contract would make sense if they were intending on something more long term. If it's something that they are testing out, the promo deal would make sense. What makes this mystery even more fun is that her RCA contract will be up with the next studio album tentatively scheduled for the first half of next year. eta: Amazon is showing this as being released on June 25th. I googled KCE cause I had never heard of it, but figured it had something to do with Kelly. It was neat to read through. I noticed a few people said they "heard" the studio version. I know sony has their SME Music Delivery thing and I could have swore i had a link to that site somewhere and I know Brad Paisley's Beat This Summer was up on that at one point, was just curious is Tie It Up there?

Excuse me for one moment....THE AUDIO IS UP ON ALLACCESS!!!!!!!!!!
ETA: Ok now that I've relaxed a bit....I personally like the song, I just don't really think it's going to have mass country radio appeal. Also It's impact date is July 8th, and the labels are listed as 19 Recordings Limited/RCA Records/Columbia Nashville

Love it. I hope country radio embraces this sound, because it seems like this is the kind of country she's going for--something with a more soulful, rock edge to it. This could also easily translate to some kind of pop remix, if they wanted to go that route.

Ooh, this is really good! The kind of country song that I can really get behind! Reminds me a lot of a sped up version of Allison Iraheta's "Don't Waste the Pretty."

Not feeling this song at all. Don't Rush was much better and I can't see this doing much more than that single and MKIA did. This sounds really rough and I don't find it catchy at all, and it doesn't really sound country to me, either.

I still quite like the song but the studio version definitely feels a step or two back from the live version. And I think that's mostly because of production. I don't know why they are adding the effects to her voice. The live version just felt more natural. This feels like a pop attempt at Miranda.
I'm still hoping and expecting a hit record because I definitely like it and want to see the continued migration of Kelly to country. I'm just not quite as enamored with this studio version as I was the live version.

I'm still waiting to be impressed by a country release from Kelly.
I love Kelly, but I don't know why its been so difficult to get a good country single for her. "Mr. Know It All" was okay. The country mix was a lot better than the pop, but the song itself was always just okay. "Don't Rush" was a really pretty song, and Kelly/Vince sounded phenomenal on it, but it was just kinda sleepy. And this is just nothing special. I'm puzzled as to why she can't get single that screams "hit"...

I was really expecting to like this and while I don't hate it, it's just kind of blah to me.

i think this is great! i think THIS is the type of country single radio has been waiting to play from Kelly. Although this is a first of all her other country singles (except AMLT) that doesnt have a another actual country artist name attached. So should be intertesting to see how her first official solo country single fares.
