Avril has the same management team.

Eh, I'm not sure about how much "better" We Can't Stop is. It's a rather weak track that's being heavily hyped by one of the savviest management teams known to Pop music, which is Britney Spears'. The call out scores for WCS aren't really impressive, the video has almost 50% dislikes on YouTube, and its not like the song is exactly smashing on CHR. Frankly, the difference is that a massive creative marketing strategy was put behind Miley's project, from her magazine spreads, to her haircut, and Avril came back looking exactly the same way she's looked for 10 years, dressed exactly the same, with the exact same hairstyle, singing the exact same song. Avril changing her look and releasing something that sounds AT LEAST a little remote to everything else she's been putting out for the past decade would do the same for her. It's not about Miley's track being "better" at all, not in my opinion anyway. I tried to clarify in my original post, but I was probably not explicit enough. My better comment was not about quality of the tracks at all. It was the effectiveness of the track to get attention for artists in similar positions (though not identical, admittedly). Neither have had hits in several years and both are looking to re-introduce themselves to the musical world and reestablish an audience. It is very easy, in that position, to fail-be overlooked, as Avril has with HTGNU. We Can't Stop has been more effective at avoiding that trap and more effective as a comeback song. People can hate on the cocaine and drug references, but the song got a LOT more discussion with them than without them. The video has almost 50% dislikes, but MORE importantly than that figure is that it has exploded past 50 million views in two weeks and become a viral sensation not only fueling an incredibly impressive Itunes position but also propelling the song to a top 3 Billboard peak due to high video numbers. The song actually struggled for a little while with a weakening bullet and it could have easily collapsed and peaked "only" top 30. However, the success of the video and sales have caused it to roughly double its bullet from its lowest point and right now it looks to have very healthy momentum from airplay, sales, and viral points. Of course, it remains to be seen how Miley, or Avril, do with their long-term album campaigns. Now, I am NOT saying Avril needs to start singing about cocaine and making videos like whatever the hell Miley just released. My point was that she is trying to make a comeback and releasing a song like HTNGU is not going to cut it because it is just...there. Generic general lyrics, uneventful video. She needs something that is going to get people's attention one way or another and maybe that is just a really great song. I was all for a collaboration too. Ultimately, she needs a better (or more effective) song paired with a great video if she wants to be big again. Hell, maybe she doesn't even want it anymore though. I am hoping Rock and Roll is it.

I think it's all happening tomorrow. Probably around 5-7 PM EST in a similar fashion to Here's to Never Growing Up. Radio adds date will probably be 7/23 with release on iTunes the same day or day before. But... this is just speculation. Edit: Info is coming on Monday!!

the concept's okay, but very undeveloped. she shouldn't be sitting down. she should be standing on a stage, and it should look like she was headbanging. maybe the glitter can stay, but i don't know that sparkliness* and rock and roll are compatible concepts. she's a female pop artist so that's really the only reason the glitter is acceptable. even with all that, the cover as is might not be that awful if she didn't look so dead in the face there is nothing fierce or rock and roll about that expression.

that title for a pop song is cringe worthy and now that cover..
I think just a tiny tiny tiny bit of self-awareness would help her tremendously

What is her concept as an artist even? Who are they trying to sell? "Boring Canadian Ke$ha?"

I don't hate the cover as much as most of you seem to, but yeah, it is pretty bad. They should have used a pic like this: Oh, well. Hopefully the song is good.

Song should be leaking in a few minutes. Avril is tweeting for people to "unlock" it and right now it's at 80%

I actually love the cover. It has personality and not in a grown woman hugging a teddy bear kind of way. I'm excited to hear this.

It's ok, but if HTNGU didn't do much, neither will this.

Not as boring as HTNGU, but not particularly good either. This CD is DOA.

I don't like this as much as HTNGU (it's not nearly as "instant" to me), but it's alright. It'll probably be a grower for me and I'll love it after enough listens. As for the single cover, I actually really like it. I don't see what's so bad about it. I like her pose, the fonts they used, and especially the lights coming from the background.

It's better than I thought it would be but yeah I don't expect this to do anything substantial~

This is pretty inoffensive so it has a small chance of catching on.
Based on what I've heard from the album, it feels as though "17" should have been the lead single. A cute little reminiscent throw back to her origins. I think people would have liked that.
