With 8 weeks at #1 and such a massive lead do you guys think it will pass I Gotta Feeling with 14 weeks at number one?

Depends on upcoming new releases, and if they can attain big airplay/sales/streaming simultaneously, or just a huge total in one or two components (which would have to be sales and/or streaming). If a video is released the same day as a single hits iTunes, who knows. Whether a challenger can maintain that momentum remains to be seen- BL could always return to the top spot if it gets knocked down.

Blurred Lines: August: 17, 24, 31 September: 7, 14, 21, 28 BL would have to stay those 7 weeks to pass IGF October: 5, 12 To pass "One Sweet Day" and get the all-time record for a #1 (If we don't count "Near You"). "Blurred Lines" is a cool song and all... but I'm still kinda astonished how massive it is.

Lady Gaga is releasing Applause on the 19th selling 500k(minimum) releasing the video the same day and then performing on the VMAs on 26th so maybe that could be enough to hold him off for at least 1 week

^ Katy Perry should release her single earlier than one month of her album release, like any day now is what I'm hearing?

She lost a lot of momentum due to her disappointing to some last era. People were saying that Taylor Swift wouldn't sell what some were predicting with her lead single this time last year due to how the Speak Now singles had performed, and we saw what happened there. Granted, Gaga's star has dimmed somewhat, but she's still a massive celebrity and with a big curiosity factor, additionally with a built in digital component to her core fanbase. It's more likely than not that Applause will have a very big digital start. Will it become a radio hit or sell a lot in the end? That remains to be seen, but those are separate factors from first week performances. I'm not exactly sure that she will sell 500k, but I would not be surprised.

Is there speculation that "Roar" whatever it is will debut at #1?

Lady Gaga is releasing Applause on the 19th selling 500k(minimum) releasing the video the same day and then performing on the VMAs on 26th so maybe that could be enough to hold him off for at least 1 week I don't think it's a given that Gaga will sell 500k in her first week. She lost a lot of momentum due to her disappointing to some last era. Id say she will sell so much because there hasn't been any new music for almost 2.5 years, so that makes it more anticipated then it is just because its her.

It looks like "BLurred Lines" could reverse itself and gain in chart points this week. Pretty amazing if it does so considering it will be week #9 at number one.

I would also agree that it is not automatic that 500K and a #1 debut will happen. Obviously it is possible but... This will happen 'Just because it is her' is true if there are still half million people eagerly anticipating a new song and will jump on it in the first few days. The last album did not do quite as well as the first and it has been a couple years, it might also be true that a few of her loyal followers might have left during that time. We'll see

We'll see I didn't say it would debut at number one, I said it might the only song at the moment that could possibly(probably not) dethrone blurred Lines. It could sell 300k, 500k, 450k but I'm almost certain that after opening the VMAs im guessing that could sell 500k

All I am saying is that the ultra-high expectations being set here could certainly happend however, for the reasons stated, it might also not quite be that high

It also depends on viewership of the VMA's. Last year's show had a 50% decline in the ratings, so that's not a guarantee by any means.

Even if Gaga (or Katy or someone else) has a week or two at #1 it's still feasible that Blurred Lines could reclaim the top spot and stay there awhile.
Of the various 10+ week #1s, have any had interrupted runs at the top?

WBT had a single week where an American Idol single ranked No. 1. Not sure about others.
