I'm so tired of changing her release date on my upcoming releases thread. She must have had like 20 different dates by now. Pathetic.

Considering Applause barely opened with 200K, I wouldn't assume Gaga is gonna blow past 500K first week.

Based on things happening right now. Anything from 300k to 500k would be alright to me. However, the release is still over 2 months away.

The very first possible comparison: Aug 27 Avenged Sevenfold 159k Big Sean 75k Jessie J 50k Goodie Mob 40k Alabama & Friends 25k Bob Dylan 20k HDD ODS: Avenged Sevenfold (Warner Bros.) 170-180k Big Sean (Def Jam/IDJ) 75-85k Juicy J (Columbia) 60-65k Various: Alabama & Friends (Show Dog) 24-27k Bob Dylan (Columbia) 15-17k So it isn't Jessie J, it's Juice J instead lol

www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/rumormill.cgiHOT DIVA-ON-DIVA ACTION: In the battle of the Q4 sirens, Capitolβs Katy Perry enjoys a decided advantage in single salesβher βRoarβ has moved 1.5 million in just three weeks, nearly three times those generated by βApplause,β the first single from Interscopeβs Lady Gaga. But with 45k+ in preorders, Gagaβs forthcoming ARTPOP (due out 11/11) has more than triple the numbers Katy has scored thus far for Prism (which streets 10/22). Youβll recall that Katyβs last album sold 2.7m, while Gaga moved 2.3m. Handicappers are handicapping 400k bows for both. Itβs still early days, so beware sweeping conclusions about these numbersβa lot can happen between now and when we finally dip into the eggnog. Stay tuned for more geek-friendly stats from the fourth-quarter horse race. (9/4a)

Imagine if 1D outsells both of them combined!

www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/rumormill.cgiHOT DIVA-ON-DUDE ACTION: Letβs take a look at how two RCA superstars are stacking up in the dog days of summer. Justin Timberlakeβs βTake Back the Nightβ has sold 300k since its release. Miley Cyrus, meanwhile, has two songs in the iTunes Top 5; her anthem βWe Canβt Stopβ has twerked up 2.27m so far, while new track βWrecking Ballβ has clocked 300k. On the preorder side, Part 2 of JTβs 20/20 Experience (streeting 9/30) is approaching the 50k mark, while Mileyβs Bangerz (due out 10/8) is nearing 12k. Justin''s initial 20/20 set has sold more than 2.2m so far. (9/5a)

So Justin and Gaga are on a similar page for pre-orders.
Anyone know pre-order #s for BTW and 20/20 Experience Volume 1?

^No. This is really the first time HITS has given pre-order numbers.

I'm surprised Billboard hasn't given us a first week sales article for Drake based based on industry expectations. I guess their article saying Kanye was going to sell 500,000 (and sold less than 350k) scared them from writing those articles.

lol, well Drake has 3 versions on Itunes top 15, I would assume he's going to do well, but Itunes is so deceiving anyway.

^No. This is really the first time HITS has given pre-order numbers. They wrote earlier this year that The 20/20 Experience had broken the record for most pre-orders ever with around 140k.

20/20 vol. 2 will sell remarkably less than vol. 1. Maybe platinum but not more. I don't think it was a good strategy at all.

I think the strategy is fine if you have the music to back it up.

I'm only expecting 1 million scanned for Justin's Pt. 2

I foresee a The Fame/Monster situation where most people will opt for the deluxe release of both.

I'm starting to wonder about Miley's opening number. She is everywhere right now and has a lot of promo lined up for the week her album comes out.
300k? Too high?

I'd say that's a good guess. I mean even Can't Be Tamed opened with 106k so she shouldn't have problem sailing past 200k this time.

Has the prediction of Katy Perry's album remained the same (if there was one)?

^Still 400k. From HITS and the New Release Schedule.
I might ask my friend this week for a NRS for all the October albums.

200k for Lorde, I think that's to high. We all know hit songs don't always translate to sales, but who knows anymore.
And Gaga not closer to 1 million?? (I kid.)

Those sales sound about right except for Lorde. I just can't see her selling 200k. What are these predictions based off of?

^Well, it's from HITS. They could have gotten it from Lorde's label.
The NRS says 100k. That's believable.

I could see Lorde do under 100k for her first week. There's a lot of buzz around her but I don't think there's much established beyond the single as of now, which is already doing well on it's own. I can see the album doing well in the long term though.

I know this is not new, but in addition to the recent Monday release of Justin, looks like Gaga and 1D have upcoming Monday releases. I wish it would just become the norm. I'm not sure why it isn't. If the brick and mortar stores have an issue, I don't get it, because I'm either going to buy a digital version or physical version, or both, so if I want physical, I'm still going to drive to Target to purchase it.

Do you know if the previous release date column matches soundscan, or I'm assuming HITS has their own cumulative total?
