WT* when I saw this , this song should be recurrent right ? more than 20 weeks and charted in bottom 50 www.billboard.com/charts/hot-100?page=5#51 - Icona Pop ft. Charli XCX - I LOVE IT (Weeks on 29)

Heck, the flushed out Demons last week, even though it is still climbing and never hit Top 50 because of the 20 week rule.

See, this is what I don't get.
Obviously these charts are compiled with enormous amounts of varying data that is parsed and generated by highly sophisticated computer programs.
So you would think that the programs would automatically weed out a song, below the top 50, that has been on the chart for 20+ weeks, and is no longer growing in points.
And yet this is like the third such occasion of a recurrent staying on too long in 10 years. Granted that isn't a huge number of errors, but it leads me to believe that there is a lot more human input than assumed.

I've seen other charts in the past keep a song on if Billboard honestly thought it would be inside the recurrent rule the next chart, or a "grace week". Is this such an occurrence?

My guess -- if a song falls barely outside the top 50, they'd rather keep it on an extra week than have it fall off and then awkwardly re-enter for a week if it happens to have enough points to be at #49 the next week. When they changed the recurrent rule after Whitney died, they stated that any song, regardless of age, could chart if it had enough points to be in the top 50. They probably want to be certain it's not going to edge back up slightly before removing it.

I"m sure it's just an error. The Billboard staff is over-worked and under-paid.

The make stupid mistakes like this ALL THE TIME. Every company is a sh*T show but Billboard is the worst company I have ever worked for by a long shot. They have some rickety old Java programs hanging on by a thread to run the charts because they haven't even begun to address how to move forward with something more modern and without all the code rot.

Their site was butter smooth around 5, but esp. 10 years ago. Basic, and clean as bell. Now its just a clunky, buggy, migraine.

Billboard may not be perfect (and I may be alone by saying this) but I think considering the complexity of their charts in trying to make them as representative as possible of music popularity in the US, they do a pretty good job. The UK Singles Chart and the ARIA Charts are relatively easy to compile; they rely solely on sales to dictate a song's chart position. Billboard at least makes an effort to incorporate the countless media through which we consume music. So if that means they mistakenly include a #51 song that should exit the Hot 100 as a recurrent, I will forgive them. It's ENORMOUSLY better than the injustices that befell "Iris," "Don't Speak" and "Torn" in the 90s. Now those were chart atrocities.

Katy has been selling 2-1 over Robin all week. I really thought she would have dropped by now, and with VMAs on Sunday, she'll get a small boost before the sales week is up. Since she is increasing quickly on airplay, I just don't see how Robin will be #1 this week. He was only up by 3% last week. I think Katy will overcome that.

So this is the second occasion in a few months.

I think Roar would reach a total of 1 million this week. Did the songs that debut higher than 557K sold a total of 1M the week after? Or Katy would just be the first?

You better grow to know Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, Kelendria Trene Rowland, Britney Jean Spears, Christina María Aguilera, Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter, Robyn Rihanna Fenty, Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, Alecia Beth Moore, etc. Because when they slay a lot of people tend to let the world know like a proud mother.
