Just crossed my mind that while I don't think George played it much on this last run of shows but with him retiring from touring and IGAC (possibly) nearing the end of it's chart run soon, it would almost make TOO much sense for him to release "When the Credits Roll", I think with all the media attention he's received from this final tour that song would be able to blow up on the charts.
Just a thought, my vote is still for SOTF though.

A commercial starring George Strait:
Announcer: You just finished the biggest tour in your career. What are you doing next?
Strait: I'm going to Disney World!
Really, George congratulations on ALL of your success. To say you deserve some time off would be an understatement.
By the way, go I Got A Car!

Releasing "When the Credits Roll" could very well be a hit , but it might also give radio an excuse to finally close the door for good on Strait as a radio presence after its chart run.

I can't possibly be the only one who thinks That's What Breaking Hearts Do is an obvious hit. I can't imagine hearing WTCR on the radio at ALL - unless it was an obvious, calculated George sendoff. I'd be amazed if they choose to do another single at all, but the catchy breeziness of Breaking Hearts just screams radio to me.

That's What Breaking Hearts Do seems to be one of his favorites since I believe he performed it regularly on his last tour alongside the three singles, so it would be a logical choice for a fourth and final single. If not that, I still think When Love Comes Around Again is the best song on the album and I'd love to see that released. Both would be strong choices imo.

Not sure why you guys are rooting for this. This doesn't even sound like George Strait. It sounds like an over produced mess. The lyrics are generic, the sound is over produced and basically sound like everything else on the radio. I am surprised its taking forever to climb. Care to elaborate why this sounds like everything else on the radio (specific lyrics, instrumentation, story, melody, etc.)? Also why must you say "you guys" when asking why people are rooting for this? If people (myself included) want to root for this, that's mine or someone else's decision. Just like it's yours if you don't like it or don't want to root for it. Why does it matter to you what others like or are pulling for?

Not sure why you guys are rooting for this. Seriously? Because it's (excuse me here) effing King George Strait. If you don't like it, skip it. You seem to be in the minority opinion on this one. edit: I'm just being snarky @brian. everyone here is here to share their opinion. I just take issue with this sounding like everything else on radio, because it's classic George a la "Check Yes or No," "Write This Down," and heck the funny "You Know Me Better Than That."

Over produced song and generic meaningless lyrics are the two which is why I think it sounds like everything else on the radio. I can almost get in on the overproduced part, I think it would sound a bit better a little more stripped down but for todays standards I find this very underproduced, so I'm not sure where I land on that part. But the lyrics aren't exactly meaningless are they? They tell a pretty concise story I thought... Guy hits on girl with really cheap pickup line. ("I Got A Car") Girl goes with him for a drive. They fall in love. Years pass they become pregnant. when the telephone lines are down and they can't call an ambulance, he still can say "I got a car". It's not deep or anything but they're far from meaningless when they can tell a story, especially one that is kinda cute. The cliche part is really only at the beginning of the song I found when the narrator calls her a "pretty little mess", her description is a little generic but the rest of the song I find makes up for it.

I was afraid this one might start showing signs of weakness once the buzz of the tour ended, and this week has definitely shown this decline. I'm hoping this week is just a bump in the road, but I'm guessing we'll see a week from now what the future will hold.

To be fair, there were many songs who had rough updates today, but "I Got A Car" has really slowed down over the past 7 days. It's bullet is just 36 on MB today and with this song being 34 weeks old with George's farewell tour now behind him, I'm also scared that this might be nearing the end of it's run. I'm still hopeful that this will pickup again but there aren't any songs that are in immediate danger of going recurrent other than Craig who barely was able to maintain a bullet today and the quietly slowing Brad (though I expect his song to pick up again). It's still in heavy rotation on many stations and Orlando is the only one who had dramatically cut it's spins, and that station is known for odd playlists (Joe's "Yeah" went from 48 spins to 84 this week and Lady A's "Bartender went from 72 to 41 spins!).
I will be patient to see how this song does by weeks end though.

If you think this sounds/reads like "Small Town Throwdown", "This is How We Roll", "Ready Set Roll", or "Beachin", then I guess this does sound like everything else on the radio to you. I would tend to agree a bit on the overproduced part, although the radio edit cuts out the strings part at the end of the song which helps the sound a bit. This is honestly pretty typical George Strait; mid-tempo song about a relationship that develops over 3 or 4 minutes guided by a clever hook. I get that you are trying to make a point, but personally I don't think it's a great one.

I remember Brantley's late-80's hits very well, and... no, wait, that was Strait, wasn't it. I get them mixed up all the time. On a slightly different topic, nice half-mill increase in audience on today's MB update. Much better than seeing a string of losses, although one day doesn't really prove much. It would really be nice to pass Lynch's song and take off after Tim and Faith's, although re-passing that one is a long shot. Anyway, the 500k gain will carry me through tomorrow morning, at a minimum.

However, his Texas drawl would make the song slower.

It was nice to see IGAC regain its lost ground today, although to be fair it actually lost 500K the other day and regained this loss in today's update. It's only up 200K for the week. I'm still cautiously optimistic, but with the tour finished and this song already 30+ weeks old I'm starting to think MCA's recent push was just to get this into the top 20. I'm just not sure it has much gas left in the tank :|

^Thanks for pointing that out jhomes87. I should have clarified that in my post. I didn't want to start out the week on a high optimistic note since it lost a lot of ground (although sabre14 noted this could be related to one specific stations playlist fluctuation). It ended at a 25.4 on Mediabase for the week and although it lost almost 500k it has rebounded to 25.6 as of yesterday. Will be interesting to see the next few updates.

The song didn't even gain 100k on this morning's update, though with the same spins gain as yesterday. Looks like a week of ups and downs is possible, but I can live with that as long as the overall trend is upward. In fact, I'm pointing towards a gain of 5 mill in BB audience over the next 3 weeks. That would leave me optimistic about longer-range top 10 chances for IGAC, although the odds won't be overwhelmingly favorable. Gaining 1.7 mill a week would require a daily average of about 300k on MB, more or less.
It could happen. Not much margin of error, I grant you. And the total of chart weeks at that point will be 37. This might be too optimistic a post, but I'm not feeling hopeless about IGAC.

Has this been added by all the stations on either panel? or is there some hold outs still?

All I want is a Top 10 to keep the streak alive. Then we can extend it in 2015 with a new album :)

I wish he'd still release quality songs like "I Saw God Today" and "The Breath You Take". Kinda like "I Believe"? That went over great.

Barring a sudden turnaround, I think this is about at the end of the line. It ended up doing much better than I thought it would after it took so long to crack the top 40.

I live by the motto that it ain't over until jhomes87 says it's over! Haha! Well, I don't know if this one is quite done, but it is really struggling. It's basically gone flat over the last 7-10 days now with just a few small gains sprinkled in there. Songs either go up or down--they don't stay level for very long. So either the label gets this a 3rd (4th?) wind, or I do expect we'll see it start to fall in the next week or so. Then again, it's hard to be sure of anything chart-wise these days. Just look at the Craig Campbell and Sam Hunt situations. And for George, he's never had a song climb like this, so who knows? Maybe it can gain at a rate of 50k per day for the next couple of weeks. It's doubtful, but this one has just had a very perplexing chart run. In other words, if you'd told me a year ago that "I Got A Car" would get released and would need 32 chart weeks to reach #18, and then would continue to gain slowly from there for another couple of weeks, I wouldn't have believed you. I'm expecting the bottom to fall out on this one soon, though. I'm not 100% certain it'll happen this coming week, but I don't really like George's odds here.

Kinda like "I Believe"? That went over great. "I Believe" is crap. George hasn't released a decent album since "Twang". His past two "Here for a Good Time" and "Love Is Everything" are pure radio friendly generic crap. Listen to "Twang" and then those 2 and compare them and they sound like different singers. @brian, I want to say if you don't anything nice to say then you probably shouldn't say it!!! How old are you? That's right, you sound like the age where you like this REAL CRAP out there that is NOT REMOTELY Country but sorry to say but "I Believe" is NOT CRAP!!! YES, it is FRIGGIN' George Strait, clean your ears out!!! George does not use autotune unlike Tim McGraw who recently did it. Your posts are not rubbing me the right way and wanted you to know it!!! You are pushing my buttons with your negative posts. Have something to say which is positive then say it, but if it is something that is negative, at least say it in a respectable way!!!!!
