Don't worry...the ShaniaCultists will find anything to take away from anyone who might be a "threat" to Shania's status (which is nothing to be proud of : "Country Music's pre eminent studio puppett!)

Yes, please get rid of the troll once again, please. As for Faith, I think she looks great. I love the big hair.

Don't get me wrong, I love the song and Faith. But this line is huge kiss up:
And some people seem to think that I've changed That I'm different than I was back then But in my soul I know that I'm the same way That I've really always been
That obviously is saying "Some people think I'm pop but I have never done that. In my soul I have always been country". That's even hypocratic for Faith when she said "My roots are more R&B and gospel.."

I don't see it as kiss-up at all. Faith knew good and well what the risks were when she made Cry, and she did it anyway. And she lost radio play. Whether she lost fans, I suppose, remains to be seen. If you think country stars are fickle... the fans are much worse! The same folks who bashed Faith before will be all over her now, same as with Lee Ann Womack. Also, I think she addressed the 'too pop' debate when Breathe came out (remember when she accepted the CMA award?). I think this song is more about the Hollywood thing. Whatever it's about... I still feel it fits, sounds good, and gives her a deserving road back in to country radio.

It's not more of a kiss-up than Shania's ridiculously over-the-top glammed-up cowgirl scenario in the Quitter video. She can't even pull off the gritty earthiness that a true cowgirl would entail...it's all about her ultra-polished, highly "airbrushed" version of country, just like her vapid poptry drivel, her "country" videos are simply a watered-down version of the real thing...

What part of NO SHANIA IN THIS TOPIC do you NOT understand!?!?!?!!!!! All of it KMCB: You are right, country fans are fickle. But in defense to what I said, to me, and I'm not accusing, but she said during the Cry-era that the "pop" thing was her. Now she's trying to say that I was never really pop. She is giving in to Nashville, which is what they want--worked with Lee Ann, LeAnn. If she would have said " I did the pop thing and it didn't work" then I would be happy. But to me, it seems she is trying to disregard Cry and pretend it never happened.

Kind've "Look how country I am". So - let me get this straight - you're real because you wear a ballcap and you play with your children?

I don't know why everyone reads so much into everyone's songs. I don't ever care about a "message." If I like the song, how it sounds, and the artist, that's all that matters.
Country fans are so finicky about who goes where and people crossing over. It's like once someone crosses over, they're banished forever... regardless of the music.
To quote Tim "It's just good music if you can feel it in your soul."
Although I'm never one to have the pop vs. country argument, this Faith song is wayy more country than a lot of songs out right now by the heavy hitters.

For me, it's a matter of putting the "hit before the horse" if you will. There's something about that which just bugs me.

The song just moved to 38 this morning. In two days, it has already outcharted Quitter, by far!!!

There is NO DOUBT that radio is eating this up. My local station, WIL, has not picked it up so I don't know how it's being received but radio is most definetly playing it.

Does anybody remember where the song "Cry" debuted the first week?

Song moves to #33 tonight. I think it's safe to say that Faith will debut inside the top 30! Way to go!

I just heard the single and it's not an instant hit for me. I'm hoping she has totally fallen back on her country roots cause I fell in love with the pop-rocking-ac chick that she's been running around as for past couple of years. I think it'll grow on me eventually or if there's a good video.

Since she hasn't had a full-blown hit at Country radio in several years, I hope this great song will reignite her career at country radio.

I find this song is kind of similar to Shelly Fairchild's "Tiny Town" and kind of in the same vein as Toby's "How Do You Like Me Now?" . (Not identical mind you, but similar enough to make comparisons.) I find Faith's song lacking real lyrical "umph" that these other two have. I am going to have to hear something better off of the album before I buy it, but it isn't horrible. So much better than "Cry" IMHO.

This song is OK. Not her best, not her worst. Sounds like it is better than most of the stuff off of 'Cry', so I will still pick up the album. I hope to hear something better though.

I agree - I would go so far as to call it "pandering". . .but hey, Kerry almost got elected doing it.

Yes! Faith is back!! I wonder though, probably not this week with the ACMs, but will this song ever level out? I mean, stations will find the median and then the song will slow...it might mean a rough week--a fast single has to keep up with itself so it doesn't loose a bullet, spins, or audience. Hopefully we will hear more from/about the album soon, since it comes out in a little over a month.

COUNTRY RADIO EMBRACES ‘MISSISSIPPI GIRL’ MAKING IT HIGHEST CHART DEBUT OF HER CAREER; MOST ADDED SONG OF THE MILLENNIUM
It’s been more than two years since Faith Hill has released a new song to radio and judging from the reaction it was well worth the wait. Country radio stations added the song at a rate not celebrated by ANY performer this millennium, giving “Mississippi Girl” a collective tally of 136 first week adds.
Radio & Records saw the infectious autobiographical track debut at #27, Faith’s highest first week chart position ever on R&R. The song also received 107 radio adds today, bringing the tally of first week adds to 114 thus far.
On Billboard’s Country Singles Chart the news was equally groundbreaking. “Mississippi Girl” debuted at #27, another first week chart position career high for Faith, while additional adds from the Billboard panel gave the singer an astonishing total of 136 country radio stations out of the box.
Faith returned last week with the performance debut of “Mississippi Girl” on The Today Show, where she rocked in front of nearly 2,000 fans at the Rockefeller Plaza Ice Skating Rink. She is set to perform the song again at the 40th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards, which will take place on Tuesday, May 17th in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino.

I just heard the song. To me, it could be a little bit better. It is like right on the line between being good and bland. It is the country version of "Jenny from the Block" subject-wise, and those I'm-famous-but-I'm-still-real songs can be annoying at times. I hope the album has more stellar materials and better subjects.

Faith returned last week with the performance debut of “Mississippi Girl” on The Today Show, where she rocked in front of nearly 2,000 fans at the Rockefeller Plaza Ice Skating Rink. Did anyone see her performance? Trying to clear her throat, she completely blew the lyrics of the first verse. She was a little embarrassed to the point where she was unsure she wanted to talk to Katie Couric about it. Interesting Internet marketing strategy providing free timeout mp3's to radio stations for their web sites. ~ Jim
