UPDATE: It looks like Mississippi Girl, the first single, is set to be released NEXT WEEK. Be prepared! The official add date (to radio station playlists) is MAY 16TH, however you may hear it a week ahead/after depending on your radio stations. APPEARANCE UPDATES: Faith is confirmed to be making an appearance on Regis and Kelly in LATE JUNE. Also the Today Show appearance has been set back tentatively to JUNE. According to our sources, it looks like "Mississippi Girl" (the song we told you about more than a month ago) is set to be Faith's first single off her new album. We have obtained information about the music video for the song, and it will be directed by Wayne Isham (who directed the video for "Cry") BOOKED: Faith Hill - Wayne Isham, director This first video off Faith Hill's upcoming album features a mix of live performance with the kind of larger than life conceptual footage that could only come from director Wayne Isham. ALSO.. We have received information that Faith's new album will be titled, Mississippi Girl, and we can only assume that this will be her first single. The current PROJECTETD release date is set for June 28 and while we do not have 100 percent confirmation, all of our sources are indicating that this is correct. Jessica has seen promotional pictures of Faith (with brown hair) for the new album that have a release date (to the press) of June 2005. -- Faith Online

I feel like being an optimist. I can't wait. If this is rootsy Faith, with the maturity and experience she's gained in the last ten years behind her, I think it will be amazing!

I want to hear this! I also hope "Paris" does not make the album.. I'm not too fond of that song.

Sounds like someone is running back to the roots. Well, sort of. During the "Cry" time period Faith said that her "true roots" were in Church music, Gospel and Soul/R&B. It will be interesting if she changes her "roots," again. I am betting on some major butt kissing by Faith to the Country industry. She'll definitely try to act like "Cry," and the interviews she did where she declared her "true roots," never happened. Pretty much exactly what Lee Ann Womack and LeAnn Rimes have done.

I see differences in their approaches to their "return" to country. Lee Ann Womack was at least honest about the direction she took and what ensued. She regrouped magnificently.
LeAnn Rimes, on the other hand, didn't go there. Rather, she didn't seem to mind that Twisted Angel cost her many, many country fans in exchange for a bigger fan base in Australia--implying it was worth it. I disagree with that rationale. She regrouped with an album that barely dips her toes in the country waters (save the first two singles).
I think Faith's answers to such questions will resemble those of Rimes more so than Womack. I don't think she'll concede anything.

Gordie Sampson expects Faith Hill's version of his song "Paris" to appear on the Grammy Award-winning country singer's forthcoming album. She has already performed it live. "We hear it's on the record for sure, but I've just been telling people that she's recorded it," says Sampson, who cut the track for his own album, "Sunburn," released last summer on MapleMusic/Universal Music Canada. Sampson, a Cape Breton native currently on tour in Canada with Australian-born country singer Keith Urban (who also cut two Sampson songs on his latest album, "Be Here") disguised "Paris" as a love song, which is likely Hill's interpretation, but that's hardly what inspired the lyric. "It's actually about myself and the two (co) writers (Nashville-based Troy Verges and Blair Daly). We got jumped in Paris when we where there for one night and ended up in the hospital, full of blood," explains Sampson. "There's a line in it, 'American blood on the streets of St. Germaine,' which is what happened." Sampson has no idea if Hill knows what the song is about. "I hope it doesn't matter. I hope she doesn't go, 'Oh, it's about a punch in the head? Well, that's not going on the record,'" he laughs. The cover came about through Sampson's good friend, Tom Bukovic, Hill's guitar player. "They were cutting beds on her session and they all took a break and he just started playing it on piano. From what I heard, she walked by and said, 'What's that?'" recounts Sampson. "That wasn't the first time she heard it. When he was playing it on piano, she was like, 'Oh yeah, that song. I heard that last week.' For whatever reason, she really seemed to have fallen in love with it." Hill put the song on hold, so no other artist could record it, and started recording the song in late summer with her producer, Dan Huff. Sampson happened to be in Nashville at the time, so he went into the studio to hear what they were doing with it. "I hung out with them for about half-an-hour and she told us about a concert she was doing that following week called Fashion Rocks, in New York City (Sept. 8 at Radio City Music Hall). She invited us there and we all (Sampson, Verges and Daly) flew out to see her perform, which was really fun." She sang just one song at the New York Fashion Week event that aired Sept. 26 on the FOX network and that was "Paris." Sampson has Hill's live recording of the song on his iTunes. He says her studio version is very different from his. "She had Paul Buckmaster do a string arrangement," he says of the conductor/arranger who has worked with Elton John, Shawn Phillips, Harry Nilsson, David Bowie, Carly Simon, and The Rolling Stones. "He's in retirement now, but they got him to do this big orchestra arrangement on it. It kind of has a jazzy feel actually." Sampson's second solo album, "Sunburn," has scanned 3,000 copies since its June 29 release date, according to Nielsen SoundScan Canada. Earlier this year, he was recognized with five 2005 East Coast Music Awards, including male artist of the year and album of the year, and received a nomination at last weekend's Juno Awards for songwriter for the year. The album's title-track was a top 20 hit at Hot AC and the second single, "Hanging By A Wire," is currently charting in the 30s. I have heard this song and it is awesome! Uptempo and very contemporary country sounding! Great single to lead with. It was written by John Rich and someone else specifically for Faith. Her website was just updated with a cool intro saying the new single is coming soon. No date or anything, but it's definately been confirmed by the most reliable source there is! :) Can't wait for everyone to hear it -- it's great!

Probably. LeAnn and Lee Ann sure came running back quick. Not really. LeAnn did pop for about 5 years, wouldn't call that quick. And unlike LeAnn and Lee Ann, Faith was far more successful as a pop artist than a country artist. She was even nominated for a pop Grammy. There is no logical reason for Faith to make a country record, because pop likes her just the way she is.

That was the one prior to this one. It completely bombed and she came running back. Faith was not more successful as a pop artist. Look at her chart history. Cry sold half of what Breathe did and aside from the title track at AC, did nothing at radio. It was incredibly front-loaded and collapsed fairly quickly. She needs radio to sustain sales, and she's not going to get significant play from Pop. Country would be supportive I believe if she made appropriate music for the format.

Cry did have better luck on AC. One was a top 10 hit there, and Cry was big too.

From Faith's official website: “MISSISSIPPI GIRL” IS HERE! FAITH HILL RETURNS WITH FIRST SINGLE IN NEARLY 2 YEARS RADIO WEBSITES OFFER FREE, TIMED-OUT DOWNLOAD TO COINCIDE WITH RELEASE; DELIVERY TO RADIO DUE ON TUESDAY, MAY 10TH One of the world’s top vocalists will return to the radio airwaves next week with her powerful new single, apply-titled “Mississippi Girl.” Recorded for her upcoming, sixth studio release, entitled Fireflies, Faith’s “Mississippi Girl” combines an infectious groove with a simple, yet direct autobiographical lyric. “Music is, and always should be, about evoking an emotion or expressing a passion or feeling,” said Faith, “and this song does just that for me. It’s easier for me to express what’s in my heart by telling people to listen to what I sing, rather than to what I say. I hope my fans enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoy singing it.” To coincide with the release, radio stations across the country will invite fans to go to their respective websites beginning on Tuesday, May 10th, to download a free, timed-out version of “Mississippi Girl.” Radio stations are expected to begin airing snippets of the new song this week and the download will be available through May 23rd. As of May 24th fans are invited to go to any digital music retailer to purchase the track. For more Faith Hill news and information go to www.faithhill.com.

I love the album title. The phrase "infectious groove" worries me. I hope it is bankable, loveable, fun but meaningful, little-bit-of-country-at-least Faith!

What do y'all think? I LOVE IT! This is my favorite sound of Faith's ... reminds me of when I first became a Faith fan! And if this doesn't bring her back, I don't know what will!

I don't want to be negative because I'd rather hear her doing this than crap like "Cry" and "One," but this is just alright for me right now. It kind of reminds me of when Martina released "This One's For The Girls". This song reminds me of that one for some reason. It's probably the lyrics. I have a feeling I'll enjoy the follow-ups more than this one. She definitely gets applause for ditching whatever direction she was going in a few years ago though.

Sounds decent enough. I hear fiddle, but she's tempered it with crunching guitars.

The words may be different and it may be a faster song than what she's done lately, but this sounds exactly like it could fit on the "Cry" album.
Even the backing vocals make it sound like it is from the "Cry" era.
The clip was only 42 seconds but that's jmo of it.

two words : THANK GOD.
I thought this was going to be a boring ballad like Trisha's new one. I like this so far, can't wait to hear the rest and the cd!
