^Yeah- a number of reviews said that it delivers on the pop, but kinda falls short on the "art."

is now following Cyndi Lauper's career path a lot closer. This is her A Night to Remember era. ArtPop barely has any other hits on it so Platinum is in doubt, I CANNOT. I know, I was thinking the same, the Cyndi Lauper prophecy became true! But what makes it worse than the A Night to Remember era is that the first single was a complete non-event in most of the major markets (esp. the UK) while I Drove All Night was Cyndi's final legitimate worldwide hit!

Now I'm scared for Britney :'( Don't be dahling, she has been collecting multiplatinum plaques for decades and major bank roll. Legends don't require hand wringing or worry, they are already made. You don't base opinion on me on my last post do you? Nope u judge me on the vast collection of work I've given you over my time. Same deal.

I'm not a businesswoman nor strong in math but that's sure looks like a mighty steep decline from one project to the next. However before hysteria sets in how many people can actually move almost 300k in this climate? So before you start laughing u might wanna reflect on that nugget, hmmmm. Yeah. The main reason why people are/will be mocking about this is because some of Gaga's fans hype her up too much. An over 200k debut is a good start for the way album sales are right now, though it may be hard to see that because of the unrealistic expectations placed on her by people on pulse and elsewhere online.

I'm not surprised people are surprised, but I never got the high predictions people were giving this. BTW ended with a thud, Applause didn't open nearly as big as people expected Gaga to, the songs she was previewing outside the R. Kelly track weren't all that accessible, etc.
This is basically in line what I was thinking. Went through the album once, not much stuck out. First album of hers I don't plan on buying at this point (and, yes, I loved BTW), but we'll see if repeated listens change that (if I bother with repeated listens).
Debuting behind Eminem's second week kinda sucks tho.

I hope bad press on the album doesn't prevent songs on it from doing well. DWUW is a bonafide smash and theres plenty of other potentially successful singles. Hoping this now moves past platinum at least.

Oye, platinum could be tough. I've got to think that SNL, AMAs, Christmas special and potentially a Grammy performance will be big helps alongside Holiday sales, DWUW blowing up (fingers crossed) and Gypsy/G.U.Y. doing relatively well can push this far enough. Not guaranteed though. I think people are going to pounce on her.

Haven't you heard, she doesn't feel like a Queen, she feels like she is one of the fans. She doesn't even want a comfortable throne. Stan. Got a gif now?

Wow, crazy to see her career kind of peter off.
Is it female pop star fatigue? None of them seem to be moving many albums at this point.

Lady Gaga's 'ARTPOP' Aiming for No. 1 on Billboard 200 ChartLady Gaga's new album "ARTPOP" is aiming for No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Industry sources forecast the diva's latest release to sell around 260,000 copies by the end of the tracking week on Sunday, Nov. 17.
That sum should be enough to take over the No. 1 slot from Eminem's "The Marshall Mathers LP 2," which debuted atop the list this week with 792,000 sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The new Billboard 200 chart's top 10 will be revealed on the morning of Wednesday, Nov. 20. "ARTPOP's" projected sales are lower than its pre-release forecast of 300,000 to 350,000. As we've noted in the past, it's difficult to project sales before an album is released, based on a multitude of variables. Still, "ARTPOP's" arrival will be near that of recent debuts from Gaga's fellow pop divas like Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus. Perry's "PRISM" started with 286,000 and Cyrus' "Bangerz" bowed with 270,000. "ARTPOP" could mark Gaga's second No. 1 album, following her last studio effort, 2011's "Born This Way." It bowed with 1.1 million sold. (That debut benefited from an Amazon MP3 offer that sold it for 99 cents on two days of its debut week. Billboard estimates that the 99 cent version resulted in 440,000 copies of the album's first-week haul.)Overall, "ARTPOP" will rack up the fifth top 10 set for Gaga, who previously notched top 10s with her first album "The Fame" (No. 2 peak in early 2010), "The Fame Monster" (EP) (No. 5 in 2009), "The Remix" (No. 6 in 2010) and "Born This Way." She additionally charted with "A Very Gaga Holiday" (EP) (No. 52 in 2011) and "Born This Way: The Remix" (No. 105 in 2011). "ARTPOP's" first single, "Applause," is currently in its 13th consecutive week in the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. It has resided in the top 10 since its debut at No. 6 back in August. The album's second single, "Do What U Want," featuring R. Kelly, rebounds 58-48 on the Hot 100 after debuting at No. 13 two weeks ago. Over on the Pop Songs airplay chart (known as Mainstream Top 40 on billboard.biz), "Do What U Want" jumps 39-29 in its second week. (The tally monitors the most played songs on top 40 radio in the U.S.) Gaga has two cuts in top 30 this week, as "Applause" also ranks at No. 4.

Spotify and other streaming sites will impact sales. Although that certainly didn't hurt Eminem.

So Eminem is going to fall 70%? Even then it would be incredibly close, I don't understand how they seem so sure.

Wow, crazy to see her career kind of peter off. Is it female pop star fatigue? None of them seem to be moving many albums at this point. 230-290k seems to be the new plateau for female pop stars, with only Beyonce rising above it recently (which I think we can attribute to her strong urban following and her multi-format appeal). Nicki (I don't think you could call Roman Reloaded anything other than a pop album), Katy, Miley, Rihanna, Britney and now Gaga have all opened in that mid 200s range with their last efforts.

I don't think Billboard knows for sure...they say ARTPOP *could* mark Gaga's 2nd #1 album...not that it *will* mark her 2nd #1 album.

Not to beat a dead horse, but MDNA did have those concert ticket promo thingies. And preorders inflated by the Superbowl. Very off topic but next time around she won't even crack 200k.

Not really. Gaga's singles sales haven't been great for a while now.
