I think for as unconventional as she's been the last two years, to put it nicely, those numbers are really good.

At least cyndi lauper had an incredible voice, gorgeous music and a winsome face, none of which Gaga can claim...if gaga's career ends up on a similar trajectory as cyndi's then she is very lucky to have even that!

I view 'The Fame' as Gaga's career peak. Not Born This Way. As we all know the opening numbers of Born This Way were artificially inflated, otherwise it would have come in much lower than The Fame. In fact, based on final sales numbers Born This Way came in no where near what The Fame did.

^The opening sales wouldn't have come in much lower than The Fame, as that opened outside the top 10. :) But, yes, the to-date numbers for the second album were less than half of The Fame (which did have a Fame-Monster-enhanced reissue to help things along, too).

Poker Face and Just dance both have over 6 million sales, Bad Romance has over 5 million, Born This Way (single) has 4 million.

And 99-cent shenanigans aside, Born This Way would never, ever have come in under The Fame's sub-100k numbers, or even The Fame Monsters 150k numbers. I don't even know how you could arrive at such a conclusion. I think I remember reading the Amazon sale totals being in the 400k range, so even if all those people that took advantage of that sale didn't buy it if it had been at full price (doubtful), the album still would have sold 600+k. But yeah, Born This Way made far less of an impact than The Fame (another fact no one has been disputing, though).

The notion that Born This Way's opening numbers would have come under The Fame's had they not been "artificially inflated" (by which, I assume, you mean the ridiculous 99-cent sale).

Well at least we know Gaga is not freaking out about it, as she didn't make this album for the charts. :)

Eminem just knocked Gaga off the top spot on iTunes. Could he block her?

Looks like Miley Cyrus ends up the biggest winner out of the three divas who are releasing or have released an album in Q4.

You should see the meltdown at Billboard.com. Hilarious! Claims that the totals don't include iTunes and pre-orders to everyone who remarks about the totals is a "TROLL." I wonder if Ga will have a Twitter rant just like what happened with "Applause"....

I wonder if Ga will have a Twitter rant just like what happened with "Applause".... I doubt it. She's probably spending her time with her boyfriend or partying instead of promoting the album as it should be on a release week.

^It's not like there's little awareness of the album.

^There's no escaping that an album has been released. Associated Press even wrote about it. Lol I didn't say anything like that. (assuming you're quoting me, goddamn use that quote feature) There's really nothing I could say to save this, and I don't even want to. Editing your post didn't change the fact that my half sarcastic post is not about that rather than their stupid promoting schedule of putting everything at the week. Not that it would help, and I didn't say it would make a change, so.

Were you implying that she wasn't out promoting? That's how I read it- hence, my reply, which implies that the album's had lots of promotion already, with more to come. :)It's all good.

I didn't mention a word about that in my post, but if you bring it up: Please list all the televised promo she's done in the US this era starting from the VMA's. Note: it'll be a short list. Again, not that it matters. Edit: Oh wait, I get it now. You've misinterpreted the point of my post. If you look at the post I quoted it's clear that I posted about her "twitter rant" or what rather than the promotion.

I'm 100% sure Gaga will sell above 300K this week. You can quote me on that next week too.

With Gaga's new sales figure, it's looking quite possible that Britney's new album will be unable to nudge One Direction out of the #1 spot.

I am shocked and disappointed that the numbers were below the predicted amount, but I'm still hoping it might exceed the prediction. :)I love the album and I plan to purchase it tomorrow as my local stores are all out of it right now.

Week 2 might be even more shocking. If you take away 100k for the preorders, which is essentially her core fanbase, then that's roughly 160k after that. Then you average the typical 70% drop on that, that's 48k. So I wouldn't be surprised by an estimate of 40-60k for Week 2.

I don't know if it will go that low, SPRΞΞ. On a side note, while there's huge awareness of the album's release, the general public just doesn't seem as interested as the online hype would suggest.
