Pre-release predictions are fun, but it's the one-day numbers that really the ones to wait for.

The scary thing is that Britney's debut might be the last big album debut until Eric Church's new album is out in February! December is always good for big numbers from rap albums

Childish Gambino comes to mind

I don't think Britney is going to debut THAT low. She still has a pretty rabid fan base. There is no way Katy and Gaga will beat her next week. I do think she will collapse hard though and probably not even sell gold.

Yes, after listening to album, there's nothing (Passenger aside, perhaps, just PERHAPS) that could be a proper hit for her.

December is always good for big numbers from rap albums I'm talking 250k+ debuts. I don't think any of the December rappers are going to sell 250k+. I just remembered Bruce Springsteen on Jan. 14. Bruce's last debut ("Wrecking Ball" lol) debuted with 196k. He'll probably debut lower...

Maybe maybe not. The way the advance singles of Gambino are moving on itunes, it opens up the possibility

^His last album debuted with 52k. Maybe he could double that with his new album? Triple?

Not saying anything at all about a specific number. I don't recall ever seeing his name on the itunes singles chart before. Now there are two in the top 10. Demand for his product has clearly changed. How much has it changed? Don't know.

Demand for his product has clearly changed. How much has it changed? Don't know. Isn't this happening because of pre orders for his album? A lot of preorders now come automatically with a few singles attached. Then when the album drops all those single orders are counted as return. I haven't heard much about this album except he's on the Glassnote label which is an indie label with a lot of clout and who knows how to promote since they pushed the Mumford and Sons albums to platinum sellers. Gambino also had a video for one of his songs that had him chatting up this young girl who's apparently well known to those who follow porn.

Go Gaga! I'm definitely happy with those numbers.
Edit: And go Kelly! Those numbers are #POW.

Good results across the board for the most part. Did Lorde not discount her album anywhere?

What can we expect for Katy, Gaga, Miley and Justin next week? 50% drops?

At least 50% drops. I think Gaga may drop even more-like, back down to 40K or something.

One Direction with a 70% drop would be at 159k. Britney is predicted to do the lower end of 150-200k. Could be close. I think One Direction will have a bigger drop though, and Britney will be lower than expectations, which would still make them close.

I don't think Lorde personally would discount the album herself. ;)
These numbers pale in comparison to years past, of course, but they look better than most weeks this year, at least.

I don't think the artist has control over discounts. They get the same amount if the retailer decides to discount it as Amazon frequently does as a loss leader. I bought her mp3 album for 4.99 at Amazon last week so it was discounted there.

Eminem and even Kelly Clarkson may also be contenders for #1 next week. Last year in the post-Black Friday week, Taylor Swift's album fell only 26% and was seeing similar numbers to Eminem, while the Xmas albums in the top ten either stayed steady or gained:
Rod Stewart -1% Blake Shelton +1% Lady Antebellum +13% Michael Buble +24%

Whoa at Garth Brook's total!
Nice to see Robin Thicke return.
Carrie Underwood, too. Is it because of the "Sound of Music"?

Carrie Underwood, too. Is it because of the "Sound of Music"? Her Blown Away album was discounted to $5 at some retailers for the physical edition last week.
