The scary thing is that Britney's debut might be the last big album debut until Eric Church's new album is out in February!

I think the meltdowns will be more from her 1st week sales and not so much the actual position. Actually, it's the perfect storm. If she sold 250K and finished #2, that would cause hysteria in itself. But if she sells what we're thinking AND she doesn't nab #1, we're going to see nuclear. If Britney really wanted to boost sales, she'd be out there promoting (and the record company would have released on CyberMonday, which is also her birthday (I saw quite a few articles about that). However, selling new music is not the ultimate goal - it's Vegas and making the show critic-proof.

I am glad to see One direction on Top. 3 number 1 albums in less than 3 yrs. They may not have huge success on the radio as NKOTB in the late 80's or Nsync and BSB in the 90/2000's but they sell albums. not to knock the wind out of your sail but yes like most teen acts the idea is to squeeze as much juice out of the orange as possible so putting out 3 albums in three years and having them be successful is great but definitely the norm. lets see if they are able to maintain after the hype is down. i dont follow them so i assume they can sing and i only know that live while were young song on the pepsi commercial but have they been a top seller yet. i know that bsb and nysnc were more my generation and they definitely were top sellers of their period. is any of the members the justin of the group akd can go solo?

I think there is a chance Britney may debut at 3 or lower. OD and Eminem are still really high. Kelly and DD are only going up. Katy and Gaga are rising. I would prepare for the worst

I think either the special will flop or will be a huge success and therefore the album could really take off.

All non-debuting albums will see big falls- top 5 is a long shot for Spears' album? Really?

So I think most people here realize that Britney will probably not debut at #1 next week? Are we really going to have to deal with meltdowns? I'm a Britney fan and I made my peace with it. Charts are a game really, and you have to play it to win it. I look at all the effort that went into recent #1 openers and "Britney Jean" just doesn't have that kind of marketing push behind it. It will get what it deserves.

It's #64 on Amazon as of now, which isn't that encouraging and I feel like there's literally no hype around this, not to mention there's not a single TV performance lined up this week. I definitely hope I'm wrong but I wouldn't be surprised if Britney Jean barely cracks 100K.

I think 100-150k would be good for her this time around.

HITS said the low end of 150-200k. And Billboard predicted 500K for ARTPOP. Just saying...

^Billboard later lowered it to 300-350k.

^Billboard later lowered it to 300-350k. And how much ARTPOP sold in its debut week in the end? I just don't take pre-release industry predictions seriously.

^Sometimes they are spot on. Sometimes not.
I bet you take them seriously for artists you like.

^Sometimes they are spot on. Sometimes not. I bet you take them seriously for artists you like. not really. I mean I think its fun to see what HITS is projecting but I guess you never know what they are going to sell. the only artist I would ever really follow intensely for HITS would probably be Kelly and they normally seem to hold for her (their estimates) but I don't know. I don't have facts and figures written down. you seem to have a lot of knowledge so I thought you might know of any instances where their PROJECTIONS were WAY OFF

^Katy Parry and Lady GaGa: HITS said 400k for each.
They were right about One Direction. They said 500k+.

One Direction are going to sell a lot of albums. Why do they seem to fare so poorly on the singles chart, though?

Katy and Gaga will collapse back down to Earth this week, with Black Friday done. Britney would have to open with 40-50k for them to beat her.

^Exactly. They said 150-200k for Brit about 2 weeks ago. They probably go that info from the label.
