I didn't like Paris until I heard the full version.
I was one of Faith's biggest fans around the release of "Faith". It just didn't get any better than "The Secret Of Life" and "Love Ain't Like That". With "Breathe", I began to lose interest and by the time "Cry" rolled around, she had dropped off my radar. In my book, she has most definitely redeemed herself with this release.
My favorites are I Want You and I Ain't Gonna Take It Anymore.

I agree with you on The Secret of Life and Love Ain't Like That. Those are some of her best songs in my opinion.

So let's start talking numbers. My predict is 400k-450k. The market doesn't pull like it used to, and I think a lot of pop fans have lost interest in Faith. I would say this will open like Cry did. I don't think Miss. Girl is enough alone to get people to rush out and buy this on the first week.

I will say between 500,000 and 600,000 the first week and I don't think she will have that big 50% drop the second week.
She has aot going for her that she didn't with CRY. Cry had a lot a bad press from radio, critcs right at the start and a lot of country did not like the first single.
This on is defferent she has a hit single the fans like, this defintely more country than her last two albums and by that I DON'T mean POP country.
She has a hour long radio premerie that is part interview and showcasing the music that will play this weekend. She has a hour long interview and showcasing the music on XM radio, Sirus radio, AOL and MSN and CMT.
She will on the Today that week to do the Summer concert series.
Her biggest assest is herself. Alot of people want her to do well, and are glad she seems to have taken a step back to her roots. She is just one of them people that is easy to love.
Her ace in the hole is the song with Tim. Tim fans are very loyal they will buy anything that Tim apart of. Heck on Tim's homepage he has picture of the album and a link to buy it.

I would say that 500k isn't out of the question. And you are right about having a lot more going on in her favor with this album. And Tim is supportive--although I wouldn't bank on that to make this album a hit.
The deciding factor is how many people will buy this album, seeing Faith's past history, without hearing more than one song first. Only 250 stations will play that special--hopefully that's a lot of markets. The Today show thing is great, as is Leno, etc, but that will help more with keeping a steady fall instead of a drastic one.
I wonder what HITS will predict...

Okay, I'll weigh in.
It's a terrific album. I'll admit to liking the light frothy pop-oriented stuff right out of the box. I did that with Sugarland where I liked "Fly Away" right off but had to let "Just Might (Make Me Believe)" grow on me.
I like "Sunshine and Summertime" and "The Lucky One" that same way. Surprising to me is how much I like "Stealing Kisses." The line "And you could burn down this town if they made matches from fear" really hits you in the gut. There's a desperation in the lyrics that I really like.
The rest will have to grow on me. I can appreciate the rest right now, but I don't love them yet.
~ Jim

Which tracks do you think country radio will jump on when the album is released next week? Is it pretty much given that "Like We Never Loved At All" will be the next single?

I would say they will eat up Dearly Beloved. If I were Faith's team that would be the next single and leave the ballad duet for the winter beginnings of 2006. You also have to figure that the duet will spark new interest in the album, so leave that as a picker-upper a couple of months after the album is on the shelves--don't use all the ammo right out of the gate.

I would say they will eat up Dearly Beloved. I agree. Country radio will eat that song up and play it so much that we'll accuse them of taking payola. I'm already sick of hearing it on the radio, and I haven't heard it on the radio yet. ~ Jim

I dont think Paris is dreadful, I know it is... I know you...you're the bitter, know-it-all type that likes to belittle everything and then talk about how good Norah Jones is. Really, I could understand you dogging other songs on the album, but to state that "Paris" is "dreadful" just kind've shows that you don't know what you're talking about...

I went to her site and checked out all of the snippets....I really wanna try to like her, but I must say I didnt like any of them and a few, especially Paris, were dowright DREADFUL. Well, first let's agree that "Paris" is not a country song. I can just imagine the "crackers" here in Georigia hearing it in their pickup truck on country radio and going "huh?" It's much closer to a torch song, a blues track, and something that radio would categorize as "Easy Listening." Something you would find as a movie love song, or something that David Foster might produce. That said, I think Faith's vocals are amazing. It's not easy to sing that kind of song or convey the emotion, so despite what you think of the genre, you've got to admire her prowess on the vocals. Is the lyric about "American blood on the streets of St. Germaine, washing up into the Seine" about WWII, do you think? Maybe the whole thing is about the early 1940's in Paris. ~ Jim

No one really knows what the song is about. Faith even said in her cut by cut that she's not quite sure what it's about.

She also said in her benefit concert in Mississippi in March or April that the song captivated her. In her concert in Vegas last fall, she talked about loving the song, but it was one of them songs that would never be released to radio.

Actually, one of the songwriters said that line was in reference to a trip they had all taken together to Paris - I think he said Troy Verges was mugged and had to go to the hospital.

I don't like Norah actually. If you can understand me "dogging" one song, then you should understand "dogging" the other. It's not my thing, plain and simple. I know exactly what I'm talking about.

I heard the complete versions of the first 10 songs, and my favorite is "I Want You". I loved the album Cry, and I could see this song on there... it's not poppy, just Adult Contemporary. A sparse arrangement though.. not overdone.

I don't think Miss. Girl is enough alone to get people to rush out and buy this on the first week. I hope you're right Shaniagotchagood, but my personal feelings, or predictions, for the album is that she'll do over 500,000 in the 1st week. At least that's what I think she should do. If she does not hit 500,000, imo, I think that will be a big disappointment. No matter how the media will spin it. I don't see it reaching 750,000 or doing Garth/Shania numbers, but 500,000 should happen. She did 400,000+ with "Cry", but she's gotten a lot more promotion, hype, and industry backing this time around. If you just went by CMT's promotion alone, Faith should easily do 300,000. Factor in all of the mainstream media attention she is/will be getting, and she should definitely debut with at least 500,000. That's jmo. As a result of weak competition, we already know that Faith will top the Billboard 200 and Country album charts. The only question that really remains is how well do people think the album will hold up, beyond the first week?

Entertainment Weekly gave "Fireflies" a mostly good review with a C+ grade.

I was able to snag an early copy and I don't know what to think. Someone earlier on this thread (maybe it was a review even?) said that there will be pop stuff and country stuff to satisfy both types of listeners. I guess I agree with that statement, although I feel the overall style of the album is all over the map. I love her vocals on Paris, even though that tune just adds to the unfocused nature of the record. I don't know if that's necessarily a good or bad thing. It's nice to have variety, but it seems like we expect a certain consistency from our superstars. And as far as the Tim duet vs. background vocal issue goes... he's billed as singing background vocals, not dueting with Faith (for anyone who still cares about that argument). Overall, it's not my favorite Faith Hill record, but it is certainly good. My favorites are "I want you" and "dearly beloved". "stealing kisses" is up there, too, although I feel like she's actually trying to sound like Lori McKenna (the writer of the tune). I could do without "sunshine and summertime". That's all folks!

I think it'll end up selling about 450k in the first week.
I'll be part of that 450k and will offer a review then. :) .

Two weeks, next week it hits stores, the week after it debuts. I would say yes, not much competition that week.

Paris is my least favorite song on the cd - in fact I usually skip it when I get there. I really am enjoying the rest of the cd though - think I've worn my copy out already! Looks like I'll have to get another one! Not sure if it's at all Best Buy stores or just the one near me - but on Tuesday they are selling it for $9.99.

My opinion hasn't changed, love the album and IMO her best. The masterpiece on the album too me is, "Wish For You". That is the most beautiful song she has ever done, and one of the most beautiful songs I've heard in a long time.
That one is a classic in the making, if it is released it will be played forever, I'm sure.
I couldn't put my finger on what made it so special and great sounding till i had listen to it over 100 times. Then it hit me what wa so unique about it, that made it stand out.
It has a older sound, going back to the 40's and 50's. It is country but it has a sound that crosses all genres. If you really listen to the way she sings it, the way she holds the last note, prolongs it on the last note of a sentence. That goes back to the Big Band era, goes back to a sound from the 40's and 50's when artist like Doris Day, Rosemary Clooney and others would do that.
I remember my mOM playing along with all the great country music she had, her 78's with music from the Big Band era. I remember a song she would play of Doris Day that reminds me of Faith's song.
If you listen to Debbie Reynolds, "Tammy" it had that holding of the note at the end of eaCh sentence. This one is a masterpiece and will be a classic for many if she releases it.
