TOP BREAKTHROUGH SONGS
(Artists who hit the top 40 as a lead artist for the first time during the 2016 chart year. Excludes artists' songs that hit the top 40 in the 2015 chart year) 04 PILLOWTALK - ZAYN 05 CAKE BY THE OCEAN - DNCE I'm guessing it doesn't exclude cases where the singer previously hit the top 40 as part of a previous band EDIT: never mind, just noticed the "as a lead artist" part lol

prime example: TOL vs SYA Are you sure TOL was actually bigger? It finished higher on the year-end chart, but SYA had a bunch of points in 2016 that didn't count for the year end. There's also the 52 week rule not being introduced until a few weeks after it should've killed TOL. Does anyone have the point totals for both songs? Oh yea forgot that SYA had 2016 points. You guys are right, SYA is bigger.

How would the year end chart be like if it had started 52 weeks ago? Which songs that got stuck between years would have made it? What about songs that are about to chart on both years, how much better they would got? I guess you wouldn't mind answering this :)

I guess you wouldn't mind answering this :) I'd love to answer this but I have separate spreadsheets for each chart year. If they were all in one continuous spreadsheet it would be easy, but they aren't. It takes quite a bit of time to combine the two years. I might gradually create on big master, but it won't be done anytime soon. lol

Hello?

if only she had released it a month later :( People say this and yeah she probably would have the number 1 song of the year if she did that but honestly I'm glad she released it when she did for two reasons: 1: The race for year end number 1 would be really boring. Maybe if Love Yourself sticks in the top 20 until October it would have a chance (lol) but beyond that Hello would have it wrapped up. As of now there's still a very interesting race for number 1 between primarily Love Yourself and Sorry but it's not completely limited to those 2, there's still a slight chance of something else coming. 2: (more important) Hello's release allowed it to break the record for least weeks needed to be year end hot 100, and even with 3 weeks she made it to number 35! There have been many year end number 1's (Adele had one already) but only one song is the record holder: Hello. It really is nice to see new record breakers and I feel perfectly happy with when Hello was released.

I guess I could see Love Yourself possibly reach #1, even though it doesn't really feel like a year end #1 to me as much as say Happy or UpTown Funk which were both huge in their respective years. Love Yourself's longevity was impressive, but I just imagine something huge in the summer at least giving it a challenge, and probably taking that #1 year end spot.

As long as Work doesn't get year-end #1 I'm fine preferably it doesn't even pass Hello, as Hello is a faaaaaaaar superior song IMO that was robbed of a higher year-end position due to the timing of its release and peak (kinda similar to what happened with Diamonds in 2012-2013, even though that one didn't feel like a 2013 song to me at all lol)

At this point I'm just hoping something...ANYTHING overtakes Love Yourself. If that was the year end #1 that would be really anti-climatic, it's just a nothing song that's only getting big because Bieber just had a massive comeback. It sounds like an album track though and really wasn't that massive, it just has pretty good longitievity.

I don't like Love Yourself but it will be nice if the year end number one does NOT spend 7+ weeks at number 1 (although Sorry would do this too.)

Needed Me Close Cheap Thrills Lost Boy Can't Stop The Feeling Ride This Is What You Came For H.O.L.Y. Just Like Fire
I feel like these songs have a shot at making the YE, with a few others possibly making it as well and the rest just being composed of songs not released yet

It wouldn't have felt like a YE#1 because it was the third release from X. LY may be the first YE#1 that is not its parent album's first single since 2007. If so, this will be only the 4th time this has happened in the last 20 years.

The first single was called Wings. It failed to chart. Can't Hold Us was the 2nd single, released in 2011. Then Same Love was released, then Thrift Shop. Thrift Shop was the first song to chart though. Pharrell's first single, Marilyn Monroe, did not chart either. Uptown Funk was the first year end number 1 to be the leadoff single since 2011 xD

Just Like Fire I feel like these songs have a shot at making the YE, with a few others possibly making it as well and the rest just being composed of songs not released yet All these songs should make it Needed Me is staying for sure Close seems like it is going to get some monster gains and should manage to do well Cheap Thrills is still going up, has powerful streaming, and a sales boost should come after The Voice finale. Lost Boy is doing well and I think will log in a lot of weeks but not get a very high peak CSTF is surely staying, extremely strong so far Ride is a bit worrysome but seems like it could chart on the lower half if its performs well from here onwards TIWYCF had a strong start, a vid should come soon, so it should fair well H.O.L.Y is doing very well right off the back, so it should also do well JLF is gonna stay for sure, it has strong airplay and sales, though it will eventually need to pick up on streaming.

335 songs have charted on the Hot 100 so far during this chart year. 335 already? Damn! Didn't we have like 400 last year (in the full chart year)? If so, we will pass that at this rate.

Can you tell me the approximate point difference between Hello and Work as of now? Hello is nearly 200,000 points ahead of Work.
