I hope that nobody still thinks these incremental HITS updates mean anything. I think we have seen enough recent examples to know for sure that these updates are NOT based on individual retail reports and are more likely part of their programmed software. I think they already have all their data for their top 50 and have a 2-day pre-programmed rollout that they run every week. Yes, we know this. But, the people who only read this thread when their fave artist is charting don't know it. I'm so glad I haven't read this in a while: "Don't buy the album at Kmart! They are not counted!" :)) However, I did read this on Twitter last week: "Double albums are counted twice by SoundScan!" > That's probably true. Some people know this. For others, this has come up now a few weeks in a row (Last week some people thought Britney would be #1 because the initial Garth update was so low) Just didn't want people to think the posted number of 617K from earlier was wrong or that HITS was broken because the first update was not 617K

Could we stop using this word already? It's incredibly offensive and highly disrespectful toward those with disabilities. She's not even close to a legend. Maybe in time, but in no way, shape, or form is she one right now. Kelly and Carrie have just the same chance of becoming legends. Kelly and Carrie? Not trying to throw shade, but...

OMG this is such overstatement. For one, the video has been relevant again for awhile. Gaga deserves most of the credit for that. Even this year we've seen videos send songs like "Wrecking all" to new heights. As for making the album relevant again, that remains to be seen. There is no way way to know yet if this will have an affect on other artists and/or on the business in general. Plus, Adele had the album relevant as recently as last year with 21. beyonce has done something unique/great, but keep it to the facts. Her stans overstating things makes people resist giving her credit for the real things. I am coming from the place that one music videos get first class treatment and are a part of the full experience of an album rather than just an after thought. She bundled all the videos with the album. So you get an hour long worth of music video as well as the music that goes along with it. It's not even the first time she has tried to do something like this. Well, it's too early to say if the bundling aspect has any impact. You said she made videos relevant "again," which implies they were and no longer are. Well, they have been relevant again for years now. If you were referring to the "bundling" aspect, then "again" wouldn't be appropriate because the bundling aspect has never been relevant.

www.billboard.com/biz/articles/news/digital-and-mobile/5839839/target-not-selling-beyonces-new-album?utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_term=biz_breakingnews&utm_campaign=BIZ%20Breaking%20NewsTarget Not Selling Beyonce’s New Album By Keith Caulfield, New York | December 16, 2013 4:55 PM EST While Target said today it will not sell CDs of Beyonce's new self-titled album, it did stock her last release, 2011's "4," which included a Target exclusive version. While Beyonce's new fast-selling self-titled album is sure to be on many Christmas wish lists, there's at least one major retailer that's opting not to sell the album: Target. "At Target we focus on offering our guests a wide assortment of physical CDs, and when a new album is available digitally before it is available physically, it impacts demand and sales projections," Target spokesperson Erica Julkowski tells Billboard. She continues, "While there are many aspects that contribute to our approach and we have appreciated partnering with Beyonce in the past, we are primarily focused on offering CDs that will be available in a physical format at the same time as all other formats. At this time, Target will not be carrying Beyonce's new self-titled album 'Beyonce.'" Columbia Records released "Beyonce" at 12 AM EST on the morning of Friday, Dec. 13, exclusively via iTunes without any pre-release announcement. They are the exclusive seller of the album through at least Dec. 18, when some brick-and-mortar retailers in the U.S. could begin to receive copies of the album. Most physical retailers will receive it by Friday, Dec. 20. It is understood that the album will not have any additional bonus or exclusive content, for any retailer. Beyonce has previously worked with Target to give the retailer exclusive editions of her albums. Her last studio release, 2011's "4," had a version exclusive to Target that came with six additional tracks. She also starred in a TV commercial for the retailer, where the singer can be heard saying "I put so much into my new album, and only Target gives you all of it." Billboard estimates that iTunes is the largest seller of music in the U.S., with about a 41% share of the market in 2012. Walmart had 10%, while Amazon (9%) and Target (5%) were the third and fourth-largest sellers, respectively. However, another major retailer, Walmart, will be carrying "Beyonce" -- and it should be in their stores by the end of the week. Walmart is "happy to be able to carry her album and support all physical music," says Walmart spokesperson Sarah McKinney. (As per Walmart's long-standing policy, they will only carry the non-explicit version of "Beyonce.") "Beyonce" this week set sales records in the iTunes Store after only three days on sale. According to iTunes and Columbia Records, Beyonce's record label, the album sold 617,000 copies in the U.S. and 828,773 worldwide through Sunday night (Dec. 15). That marks both the largest single week ever in both the U.S. iTunes Store, and, the fastest-selling album worldwide in the iTunes Store.

Push The Delete button, you clearly have some nerve calling me a illiterate mess we all know that..... but why do you feel like you have earned the stripes to call me out who are you? Why do you think you of all people can sit on a throne and judge me, what have you brought since you have been sitting here since 2005? I tried to go through your timeline and figure it out but i fell asleep. I don't think you're a beacon of intelligence, you're not enlightening anybody and i definitely dont see any worthwhile contribution towards debate coming from you. Dont be crusty honey just work on being a better poster and contributing to Pulse and maybe someday you can get on my level. I'll be waiting for you to tell me one thing you do well, just one. Judge me really?

There are legitimate claims to be made regarding this release, so why the need to make statements about things we literally cannot know yet (i.e. the impact/influence the release will have) or things that are simply untrue (this release didn't single-handedly make the video relevant again)? It was a brilliant release strategy, and I love how this put focus on the album by using something that has been ruining the concept of albums. Isn't that enough?

I agree with you, but let's not forget the impact that the "Single Ladies" music video had in 2008, right when Gaga was on the come up. She definitely had a hand in making "event" music videos the new practice. But Adonis said "single handedly," which was my sticking point. I'd argue music videos were never irrelevant, though. Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, Kanye West, etc. were using music videos in the mid-00s to enhance their music and even sell it more.

Far as I can tell, Target's the only holdout. I need my curse words, so I'll be checking Best Buy. As coordinated as this all has been, I'm a little bit surprised Columbia did not also buy some ad space in Best Buy or Wal-Mart's circulars for this week.

Don't just act like it's just us STAN's claiming the bitch changed the game. I am talking about this board. And considering the album hasn't even been out a week, how can any claims be made about this changing anything? It might; I am not saying it can't. I am just saying it's too soon to tell. Plus, "game changing" has become a go to phrase for anything and everything. I remember a review or two calling "#Beautiful" a "game changer." I love that song, but what game did it change?

You dont have to wait 20 years to crown something as game changing, this is a game changer the woman bypassed all norms and did this shit on her own terms, she didnt even bother messing with radio and proved to POP radio she didn't need them to sell records. She took her art and put it online for her fans and bypassed media outlets, radio and all other institutions. Look at the amount of records sold, look at the buzz, look at the numerous artists coming out in support and adoration for this move on twitter, each one thinking why cant I do that! Lets no play semantics and just call this what it is, one of the best moves ever made by any artists. You think that's hyperbole by me? Nope.

^The circulars are done weeks in advance. Yeah but I also have a feeling the iTunes deal was locked up well in advance too, either with only one or two top people at iTunes aware of it or Sony buying up all the ad space but not telling iTunes which artist(s) it was for until the last possible minute. I know some people questioned what happened to the artists who would have had that space before and I don't see iTunes letting people pay for ad space just to say 'oops, never mind, Beyonce needs that; screw your promo schedule.' So with that in mind I think they could have coordinated the circulars too if they'd really wanted to. But it's a trivial thing to ponder in the long run. Probably just wanted to keep the # of people in the know as small as they could.

Probably just wanted to keep the # of people in the know as small as they could. The circulars are done 4-5 weeks in advance. A few years ago, Best Buy had the new Ja Rule album coming out. I looked and it had been canceled 4 weeks before. No way could have Target/BB/Walmart have kept it a secret. Only the top, top, top people at iTunes and Bouncey's label knew the details. And does it really matter? 617k without brick & mortar... She'll have 5 days of cd selling before Xmas. I wonder what the retail price will be? $15.99?

You dont have to wait 20 years to crown something as game changing, this is a game changer the woman bypassed all norms and did this s**t on her own terms, she didnt even bother messing with radio and proved to POP radio she didn't need them to sell records. Lets no play semantics and just call this what it is, one of the best moves ever made by any artists. You think that's hyperbole by me? Nope. But unless this becomes routine to do, then the normal game of lead singles, promotion, etc. hasn't changed. We don't know yet if that's the case or not, so, yes, it's too early to say.

but Jenglisbe its a game changing move regardless of who does it or not, some actually majority just cant do it! Not that its the same thing or anything but when the first man went to the moon that was a game changer even before anyone else followed.

Am I the only one doing somersaults at the fact everyone after 4 said she needs to leave urban behind and do pop records to sell again, instead she told POP i dont need you and this R&B album is doing twice what other albums who get massive pop audiences cant do? Maybe the pop listeners arrogance will come down a notch or two now, anyways pop radio executives below
