BEY-TUNES: Beyonce has broken iTunes' one-week sales record in three days, moving more than 618k digital copies of her self-titled "visual album," the explicit and clean versions of which continue to hold the #1 and #2 spots on the online store, respectively. Beyonce also broke the worldwide iTunes first-week record. It's a huge end-of-year coup for Columbia chief Rob Stringer and his team, and for Sony Music ruler Doug Morris, who supported the release plan that the megastar and Stringer developed. For details about that plan, see the item below; stand by for further updates. (12/16a)

I didn't read that as Kelly vs the Robertsons for #1, I read that as Garth for the repeat

A 25-30 dollar set for 8 discs makes a good holiday gift. This title should be on top through Christmas now that we are confirming another week of 150K
Otherwise if 500K were the limit, stock should be short in some places by now

There are supposedly 190k of Garth left on the shelves. With a 150k estimate for this week, that would leave 40k for next week. Everyone keeps saying that Walmart may have ordered more. Here are pictures of the box set: garthbrooks.com/There is the box itself. A book. Who knows if these can be easily and quickly manufactured? Of course the cds can be easily made. Maybe Garth wants this to be a truly limited edition?

^They could have just lied about the limited number as well, or immediately put more into production after first shipping them out.
I can't believe Garth Brooks is topping the charts in 2013, I totally thought he was gone for good 10+ years ago! Good for him, even if I have zero interest in his music.

^Lied? Why?
We'll see if Billboard/HITS mentions a re-order.
Why are people here having such a hard time believing that it could be a truly limited edition?

If 500K were the limit, some sites would be running low by now and there is no way this thing would be doing 150K+

^I don't understand that.
Because a store has low stock, it won't sell?
I can think of 7 Walmarts within a 45 minute drive of me right now. If one doesn't have it, I could drive to another to buy it.

yes, if a store does not have something in stock, people won't pay money for something that isn't there, hence it won't sell.
I would not drive to 7 Walmarts to find a CD (but that is just me)
Some areas could be completely out of stock by now. 400K or so of the 500K are gone(or will be by the end of the week). It is hard to believe that some sites have not run out. (If indeed 500K is the limit)
It seems more reasonable to think that some cities have sold more than others.

^I would drive to different stores to find a cd.
I was at a Walmart/Sam's Club last Friday. Both had copies on the shelves.
We'll find out next week if it really has been re-ordered.
But, c'mon. This is Walmart and Garth Brooks! They knew it was going to sell.
Walmart is the #1 cd seller. I don't think they under-estimated sales.

I think what's more pertinent is that a 46 year old R&B artist who has been putting out albums for over 20 years is STILL able to sell nearly 100k in his first week without any sizable hit as a lead artist.
R. Kelly is truly a legend.

I do belive there is a limit of some sort. Walmart is advertising this as a "limited edition" Putting the limit at a point where it would sell out well before Christmas doesn't seem logical though, especially since the totals are now around 400K with still 2 weeks worth of shopping days left til the 25th

^True.
But, when they advertise something as a "limited edition," don't you think they know it's going to sell out??? That's what got Garth fans in the stores on Thanksgiving.

the sizeable hit though will be needed if this is still around for week 2 He's getting some UAC and Rhythmic play outside of the Gaga single, but I'm just happy to see him open well. This album should be able to scan at least 200k, considering he has pretty notable longevity (I think his last album scanned something like 250k after opening with 65k without any hits).

Marketing something as a "limited edition" reminds me of "farewell tours" or announced retirements. Granted, some things are limited edition, but if the demand is there and there's potential for even greater revenue, more units will be pressed. Garth Brooks' The Hits was a limited edition- but after 10 million units were shipped. ;)

I checked Walmart.com for the Garth Brooks box set using my location and 7 Walmarts popped up saying it would be available for pickup on 12/18 and one said available today. That seems to imply that some Garth Brooks CDs will be restocked in those stores next week and maybe Walmart is purchasing additional copies for the last minute Christmas buyers.

I'm scared to see Britney's drop. Album sales should increase this next week due to Christmas shopping so the fall might not be as bad. Best Buy has it on sale for $9.99 this week.

Garth could be limited to 500k. But they could also be fudging the truth by saying it was a 500k limited edition and then saying something like "due to popular demand we've done a second limited edition pressing of 500k more copies" -- and could have had that plan available all along if it sold well (as it has).
Basically it just seems illogical commercially to limit something selling this well. I suppose we will find out in a week or two either way.

^That doesn't mean anything. They have it in stock now. They just expect to have in stock next week as well. If they had it in stock wouldn't it be available the same day? That's why one of the stores said available for pick up today. The others said available for pick up 12/18. That indicate they don't have it in the store now. I also don't recall seeing it in Walmart when I was there the other day. At least it wasn't prominently displayed that I noticed it in the music section.

^Oh, I understand what you are saying now. 7 stores do not have it in stock today.
I just got the same thing. Available 12/18 at 13 stores near me.
We'll find out...
Or who wants to call Arkansas and ask?? lol

Let's look at it this way. Assume 500K is all there is. Through last Sunday 310K were sold roughly per Soundscan. Then as of Sunday there are only 190K left in the ENTIRE country at all locations combined.
Based on today's HITS post. Garth will sell about the same this week as last week or perhaps more. That is all but 30K-40K of the allotment.
Unless all stores are selling the exact same number of copies, you would think that some store are having stock issues. Some cities may have already sold out. Supply issues would cause sales to decline, not stay the same or perhaps even increase over last week.
I think we already know that the limit is not 500K

www.billboard.com/articles/news/5820106/r-kellys-black-panties-set-for-top-10-debut-on-billboard-200R. Kelly's 'Black Panties' Set for Top 10 Debut on Billboard 200 By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles | December 11, 2013 7:00 PM EST R. Kelly is set to collect his 15th top 10 album on the Billboard 200 chart next week. The singer's latest album, "Black Panties," is on course to sell around 100,000 copies by the end of the tracking week on Sunday, Dec. 15 -- so say industry forecasters. That should be enough to enable a top 10 debut for the album, and make it the biggest new release of the week. The new Billboard 200's top 10 will be revealed on Wednesday, Dec. 18. "Black Panties'" projected start would mark an improvement in debut week sales compared to R. Kelly's last release. His previous album, 2012's "Write Me Back," opened at No. 5, but with 68,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Kelly has been busy lately, collaborating with a number of high-profile artists in a short span of time. He's currently in the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 with his Lady Gaga collaboration "Do What U Want," and he also hooked up with Justin Bieber on the track "PYD." Further, Kelly is featured on the G-Mix of Bruno Mars' "Gorilla" (which also boasts Pharrell). Every one of R. Kelly's previous solo studio albums have reached the top 10, stretching back to his solo debut, 1993's "12 Play." (He charted one previous album before that, "Born Into the '90's," with Public Announcement.) R. Kelly probably won't sell enough to be No. 1 on next week's chart, however. The current chart champ, Garth Brooks' "Blame It All On My Roots: Five Decade of Influences," might hold atop the list. There's a small chance that Kelly Clarkson's "Wrapped In Red" could skip to the top as well. Other big debuts next week include Childish Gambino's "Because the Internet," which might move around 80,000 to 90,000. That could give the actor/comedian/hip-hop artist his first top 10 set. "Because the Internet" is his second album, and follows the No. 11-peaking "Camp" in 2011, which bowed with 52,000.
