I'm happy about this...heard him play it months ago at a festival and called it then as a No. 1 single! I was surprised it wasn't the first one released from his new album, it is crazy catchy.

My second favorite song on the cd (behind Smile On Mine), great choice. This definitely has #1 written all over it. :)

While this is not my favorie on this album. It's the safest and most probable choice to send Joe back to the top of the single charts. And while I like the song, I feel Joe's vocals are one of the few that can make ok or average songs into enjoyable ones. I expect this to go top 5, maybe #1. I'm still hoping for "Crickets", "Baby Your In Love With Me", and "Smile On Mine" to be singles at some point. "Old School Country Song" I love, but will never see the light of day as a single.

Great choice! Not only is it one of my favorites on the record (which is full of good songs), but it's definitely one of the best choices for radio. Should be another Top 10 hit at least, but I can see this one possibly going all the way to the top, too.

Coming off one of my favorite songs of 2013 this unfortunately falls flat for me. For lack of a better thought it very much panders to the bro-country feel of today's country radio. We've got a hot girl climbing out of a four wheel truck out in a hayfield. FGL could have pulled off a song like this, and that's not a compliment. The repeating "Yeah, yeah..." makes me cringe a bit. All that being said, I'm a fan of Joe's so I can give him a little pass here. I'll give this a few more listens before my ear definitely decides what it wants to do with this. I'm always going to be slightly more critical of artists like Joe when it comes to songs like this, especially after I fell in love with their earlier material.
One of my personal favorites on the album is "Just Let Me Fall in Love with You" and can see it being a good summer release for 2014.

Joe just doesn't have enough life in his music to me....he's just boring. It's like he's just singing the words with no passion. JMO.

The listening party thread is pretty old so I won't drag it up, but I got Crickets for Christmas and man, what a strong album. It ranks right up there with Man With a Memory as Joe's very best. Sure it's not as traditional as his previous efforts (I love neo-trad country, but Joe's albums have always been pretty spotty IMO), but there are plenty of good songs to offset the pointless ones (I choose to believe that Hee Haw was included as a joke). Old School Country Song is fantastic, easily my favorite on the record even though I'm sure it's too traditional for radio (lyrically I think it has hit potential, but steel guitar AND fiddle, no way radio is touching that). I hope he finds enough success that they go 4 deep, because then maybe they look past the radio filler (most of which is pretty good for radio filler) and release a more substantial song like Billy Graham's Bible or Better Than Beautiful (since the aforementioned Old School... and Crickets have little chance as singles). I just hope the album sticker isn't right, because Y'ant To is just plain bad, and would a terrible waste as a single. Gary Allan and George Strait put out two of my favorite albums in years, but this is easily my 3rd favorite of the year, edging out Kacey Musgraves.
As for this song, it definitely falls in the radio filler category, but I still like it. The first verse is terribly cliche, but the chorus and second verse redeem it. Unlike most of the recent infestation of tailgate lovin' songs, this one actually tells a narrative story and has some details that add a layer of charm that helps sell the song. The production is strong as well, I wish Tony Brown had produced the whole album, not just two songs.

I took a few listens of this song this evening on my way to the hockey game I was thrilled to be going to (Sabres won by the way.. Miller Time ;)). I wasn't quite sure if I enjoy this song yet. I think I've decided to like it. Mainly for the arrangement and production coupled with the advanced story lyrics in the verses, that kw9461 eluded to. The reason I'm so hesitent with "Yeah" is the subject of the girl with the four wheel, along with the hayfield and the moonlite river. The hook I still think is quite weak and could have been written better. This song isn't supposed to be thought provoking by any means but maybe could have been done in a better fashion. Ultimatley I do enjoy the song. Maybe another problem is that if this song, or even "Don't Ya" or "Runnin Outta Moonlight" were released 5 years ago I would have enjoyed them much more than I did. I was in a overload of dummed downed lyrics and cliched lines about girls with fields and trucks. So normally I wouldn't mine these kind of songs (As long as I think they fit in the genre unlike some others recentley) at almost any point in the past.
Hopefully I'll get "Smile On Mine", "Baby Your In Love With Me", "Crickets", or even "Better Than Beautiful" which I'm really taking a liking to, as the third single.

Gave it a few more listens and I'm hooked, lined, and sinkered. I just can't help but root for Joe.

I'm not a much of a Joe Nichols fan, but he has a few songs that I like. Can't say I really care for this one. It's a safe choice and should do fine, but it sounds pretty generic. I find it only minimally catchy and I don't like the melody. I think Joe can do better, but this song will serve it's purpose and give him radio and chart success.

I needed to dig this up because I need to express my love for this song. As I expressed in the "Sunny and 75" thread, I rarely like Joe Nichols songs. "The Impossible", "If Nobody Believed In You", "Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off", "I'll Wait For You" and now "Sunny and 75" were the only ones I've ever cared for. And now "Yeah" can join this elite list.
This is a fun, catchy song that uses contemporary elements but still sounds somewhat traditional and has a cute story thrown in there. Man, I love what Red Bow is doing with Joe and I hope this becomes another #1 for him!

As I've said before, Joe Nichols is the genre's best traditional vocalists. This song doesn't necessarily appeal to me, even though the melody and chorus will get stuck in your head. Nevertheless, I am very glad he has found a new niche at country radio. Hopefully "Crickets" or "Old School Country Song" can somehow find there way to being a single.

Not the greatest, but it's rock solid all around. Lots more lyrical detail than other songs of this sort. Didn't expect much from a song whose hook is just "Yeah", but it makes up for it well enough.

^ I think the iPod reference is a bit dated, since iPods are kinda past their peak. Still, the "I thought no but I said yeah yeah yeah" is a great payoff, I agree.

Lol, what am I going to use to run my miles with now?! :o My 19 and 22 year old still extensively use theirs........... anyway, looking forward to hearing this, I am lukewarm on Joe and haven't made the effort to look it up yet (haven't heard on radio either) so have no opinion on the topic :) I did really like Sunny so hoping this is as good.

^^^^ Thank you FanofCountryMusic!
I really like this. Nothing groundbreaking in terms of lyrics but cute and not BroCountry. Also love the IPOD line :)
Sometimes I don't like Yeahs, Oh Ohs (if done as the sole bridge/chorus-even though I love Eric Church's new song the Oh Ohs bug me there) but they are perfect at the end of each verse here.
Will have to check out the album, haven't bought a Joe Nichols album yet but after really liking two songs it warrants listening to.

iPods may not be as popular as they once were, but that's only because everyone uses their iPhone as their iPod now. I sometimes call my iPhone my iPod if I'm referencing playing music on it so I really don't think the line is outdated. It's my favorite part of the song as well though sabre14

Really liked this album. One of the better ones of last yearp imo. I know I saw an interview where Joe said he wanted to do some newer sounding songs and some more traditional. I like that he kinda hit both and almost made two seperate albums.
I like this song and while it does touch on bro-country (also very similar to Felt Good on My Lips story-wise) it's nothing I can't enjoy. It's hard to take Joe Nichols voice and make something other than good country music.

On first listen of this album, I thought it sounded like a bunch of Jake Owen B sides. After two long trips and giving the full album multiple listens, I am loving it. Of course there are a few clunkers and it doesn't match his earlier work, but there are quite a few solid hits here.
I am loving this song and see a definite top 5 which pretty much means it will sneak a week in at #1 on Mediabase......

If you think the iPod reference is dated, then how about Luke Bryan's girl waiting the whole night just for the local radio station to play a song? It's as if she's forgotten about Spotify, Youtube, iTunes, etc....

^ True. But neither the iPod reference nor the radio reference in that song are anachronistic enough to throw me out of the song. They're really just minor details in otherwise solid songs. (Yes, I like "Play It Again".)

This song has been stuck at 22 on Billboard for a while now, I hope it's not almost done. This is a pretty catchy song, and I want it to do well so we can get more singles from this surprisingly really solid album.

I love Joe Nichol's voice but this song is just too basic and boring for my tastes! The melody is nice and his voice sounds pleasant but the lyrics are just whatever...it was definitely not a good follow up to "Sunny and 75" IMO.

It's selling really well for where it is on the chart, and I'm guessing it's slow in chart climb has more to do with songs in front of it not giving him room to move up much.

Yeah, this is definitely nowhere near close to being done, for exactly the reasons stated by .indulgecountry. "Yeah" still has a lot of life left in it, and there are a bunch of songs up ahead that will be gone off the charts in the next few weeks--probably those by Sara Evans, Craig Morgan, Craig Campbell, Keith Urban, Rascal Flatts, and Thomas Rhett, along with the already-dropping ones by Eric and Brantley. There could be others too, that will either drop off or get passed by Joe--the Hunter Hayes song comes to mind, as that one is barely moving. I would be very surprised if songs like "Slow Me Down", "Wake Up Lovin' You", "Keep Them Kisses Comin'", "Invisible", etc. are on the chart 4-6 weeks from now. "Rewind" and "Cop Car" aren't going to last that long either. "Yeah", on the other hand, will probably still be charting 3 months from now, perhaps longer. I would be very surprised if Joe missed the top 10 here. This could have a shot at the top 5 or even #1.

I really enjoy this song and the whole album ford that matter. I this being a solid top 10 hit for him and it should start picking up some steam here soon. I'm thinking a head and trying to figure out what the third single from Crickets will be. Maybe the title track or He Haw, or Y'ant To. Those are probably the most radio friendly tunes. But Billy Graham's Bible is a great song too.
