Listened to this album beginning to end again and I think with them scoring background back hits with contemporary style songs they might through out a more traditional sounding song as a third single and take a chance. It'd be nice to hear a song like Old School Country Song, Footlights, or Billy Graham's Bible on the radio but they may completely flop. Love Has A Way sounds like a likely choice though. I'd love to see them go that route as well (actually, my first choice would be Better Than Beautiful, followed closely by Old School and Billy Graham), but i think the Randy Houser approach is more likely, sending one more safe choice before taking a risk with the less important 4th single. For the record I think Old School Country Song would do fine at radio. It'd be a risk, I don't recall any recent singles with that much steel, but it's relatable enough that I just don't see it bombing. I would be good with Love Has a Way as a safe release, though I think Just Let Me Fall In Love With You or Hard To Be Cool are more likely (and maybe even Smile On Mine). Really, as long as they stay away from Y'ant To or Hee Haw, they really can't go wrong no matter what they release. Kudos to Red Bow on this one though, I had my initial doubts, but Yeah turned out to be the perfect follow up. His first 3 #1's had never yielded better than a #9 follow up, so pulling this off 12 years into Joe's career is no small accomplishment. Shows just how hot the whole BBR family is right now.

Red Bow has done an excellent job with Joe so far. Despite being an older vet in the game, he has managed to back to back #1's in an era boasting many newer and younger artists. After "Take It Off" flopped I assumed Joe's career would pretty much be over. It's good to see that some more traditional/contemporary style of songs can still succeed in today's climate. "Yeah" has been a solid song in my opinion, and I absolutely loved "Sunny and 75". "Hard to be Cool" would be a huge hit as a 3rd single in my opinion.

I too thought the worst for Joe when "Take It Off" went recurrent in 2011 with Show-Dog Universal. I still remember the acoustic show I went to in Rochester in April of 2013 when Joe hadn't yet released "Sunny And 75". Joe was there with Montgomery Gentry, The Farm, and Dustin Lynch. I was sold on "Sunny And 75" when he got to the line " You and me on a beach chair. Yeah, I'm so there, every time I look in your eyes". Right then I was optimistic about Joe's future on Red Bow and his album and thank God I had a right to feel that way. I'm with kw9461 on "Better Than Beautiful" being my favorite option left along with "Old School Country Song" and "Billy Graham's Bible". Though I'd be shocked if they went that route too. I'm almost certain it's going to be "Just Let Me Fall In Love With You", "Hard To Be Cool", "Baby You're In Love With Me" or "Smile On Mine" for single #3. Then depending on how that does at radio, perhaps that would be the point they throw someone like me a bone and release a risky song in terms of potential at radio like "Better Than Beautiful or "Old School Country Song". The thing I want most though is for Joe to continue his streak because I'm loving how this album is going for him, so I hope Red Bow can pick the right singles left from this album.

Very glad to see Joe get two back-to-back #1's, although I find this to be just OK in comparison to "Sunny & 75". Really hope he can continue getting more hits this far into his career, even if they're not #1's. I've also been meaning to listen to this album since I've read some good things about it on here.

"Hard To Be Cool" or "Baby You're In Love With Me" seem like the biggest bets. But you're right, "Smile On Mine" could be the song. Doubt they'll go with a ballad with Houser and Owen and Eldredge going with ballads. Would be hard to compete, IMO. "Old School Country Song" is too long, too much fiddle for radio (yet), Maybe we'll get back there but don't know if radio is quite ready for that 'old sounding' of a song. But I DO love the story and sentiment of the song.

But I DO love the story and sentiment of the song. I don't think it's a good single choice at all, but length is not an issue for it. The song basically ends right after the 3:00 mark, and radio would easily be able to lob off the extra minute and a half instrumental after that the same way they have for songs like "I Hope You Dance," "Born to Fly," and "White Liar," all of which were very big hits and remain popular recurrents. It's just more downtempo and has that feel of an album track imo.

Joe sang "God Bless America" during the 7th Inning Stretch of the MLB All-Star Game tonight. He looked and sounded pretty darn good I must say!

Getting word that Love Has A Way is to be the next single. I can't confirm that though so take it as it's worth.

I definitely wouldn't have expected that one to be a single, but it's a strong choice and my favorite song on the album after the first two singles + "Billy Graham's Bible" (which wouldn't be a good single choice). He'd be literally perfect on the single selections this era in my book if that one is next.

"Better Than Beautiful" and "Old School Country Song" are my two favorites from Crickets, though "Love Has A Way" wouldn't be surprising at all if that was indeed the next single. It's in that cluster of tracks I feel is radio-friendly and in the "playing it safe" category along with "Baby You're In Love With Me", "Just Let Me Fall In Love With You" and "Smile On Mine".
"Yeah" is still going really strong right now at #1 on BB and it's pushing Chris to be the #1 song on MB this week as well so I suspect that the next single wouldn't get released til late August to early September.

Yeah took four less weeks to get to #1 versus Sunny And 75 (27 and 31, respectively). Yeah is positioned to be Joe Nichols' second multi week #1 following Gimmie That Girl.

Will this get a 3rd week at #1 on Billbosrd and 1 one week on Mediabase next week? If not, it's going to suck hearing "Yeah" as a #2 song since radio only goes by Mediabase. Looks like it should hold onto its lead (on the rolling chart) for a #1 at Mediabase this week. The Lee Brice and Billy Currington songs would need accelerated bullets just to reach the spin count for "Yeah," and even that assumes "Yeah" stops rising itself.

It doesn't matter if it goes #1 on Mediabase or Billboard; country radio, labels, artists, songwriters, and fans will call it a #1 song.

The countdown shows all use Mediabase, but that's largely because Mediabase is more easily accessible to them (it's cheaper). Furthermore, Mediabase is owned by Clear Channel, so... (and that's always bugged me, because I've always felt that companies that compile charts should not be associated with companies that determine what gets airplay in the first place, but oh well..)
Anyway, the industry will accept a #1 song from ANY chart as a #1 song. Mediabase #1's just happen to be much easier to get but the industry loves that. But that doesn't diminish a Billboard #1. I am quite certain that Red Bow Records will boast about "Yeah" as a 3-week #1 hit even though it will only be a 1-week #1 on all the radio countdowns. Other recent examples include Capitol Nashville referring to "Play It Again" as a 4-week #1 hit, and Big Machine touting "Cruise" as the longest-running #1 in country history (which happened as a result of the Hot Country Songs methodology change, of course).

Major props to Joe Nichols for reaching the penthouse @ Mediabase on top of notching a second week at #1 in Billboard; he's definitely among the format's most underappreciated artists, and has been for several year running IMHO.
One thing's for certain; the current top ten on the Mediabase chart, even with the ho-hum Dustin Lynch tune set to pass the equally ho-hum 'Beachin' by the end of the week, is the best and most listenable top ten of the year, so for the first time in ages the final hour of 'CT40' is going to be very nice to listen to this come Friday evening.
'Bout time, huh?

^I'm just so over the top happy for Joe. I've been a fan of his since "The Impossible" and I almost have to agree with Joe that the current level of success he's achieved with Crickets is so much more sweeter. Here's hoping that Joe pulls out some CMA nominations later this year...I'm thinking a single nomination and although a male vocalist nomination is probably not within reach I think an album of the year nomination is warranted for all his hard work after all these years.

Having now scored a third week atop the Billboard chart, is it a pretty safe bet that this will wind up as Billboard's #1 single of 2014, thanks in large part to needing half a year to reach the penthouse?

I'm just over the moon at how well his comeback has been. Two back-to-back smash hits, and now this one has been sitting at the top for three weeks. I had high hopes for him the first time I listened to "Sunny and 75," but my expectations have certainly been exceeded since then. Incredible.

What was the last significant hit (non Toby) that came out of ShowDog Universal? Good to see Joe is back "Just Fishin'" (#6) by Trace Adkins in 2011. Joe's with Red Bow now thankfully.
