Best Buy isn't a discount retailer. I lump them in as electronics retailer. Their album prices are about the same as Walmart's. Best Buy has bins selling albums for $5 and $7.

Beebs can get 500k I think. I'm shocked Amazon and Target didn't ban Beebs from their stores.

You go to Best Buy with electronics in mind. You go to Walmart for an array of discount stuff. I said discount retailer. Not discounted cds at an electronics store.

Bieber will be pretty big. It was a smart strategy to release 10 songs and then lump them together with videos and additional new tracks featuring high profile artists and to release the week of christmas giftcard explosions. I'm thinking it could do upwards of 200,000.

Amazon and Target haven't really had the opportunity to ban the release, considering the album is an iTunes exclusive. I don't see this release doing much, but it appears I'm in the minority.

QUEEN BEY REIGNS ON: Physical sales on Beyoncé's year-end blockbuster are now projected at over 100k, thus raising the overall projection to 375k+ for the chart week ending today; it's likely that the album will reach the 1 million mark imminently, if it hasn't already. Retailers who have chosen not to carry the Columbia megadiva's album (due to the first-week iTunes exclusive) appear to have hurt only themselves. (12/23a)

Target is very different from the above two. They only stock the latest releases and a few Catalog albums.

If Target is competing with Wal-Mart, they're losing mercilessly.
Wal-Mart = $469 billion in annual revenue. Target = $73 billion in annual revenue. Best Buy = $49 billion in annual revenue.

Adele is Amazon. $61.09 billion.
Even after you take out her food budget their expenses she's still making $14.96 billion.

I can't with you @yonkab re: Justin - it would be nice and not entirely surprising if he did 200k or more, but I'm not sure I see it happening when, if I recall correctly, none of the Music Mondays singles even crossed 150k. This project hasn't really been promoted outside of being a 'treat'/thank you to his core fanbase and there apparently isn't going to be a physical release at all, so I just don't expect much and I don't think he or his label did either...it's essentially a souped up version of a mixtape. He just happens to have enough fans that he can throw stuff out there without the typical fanfare and still make some pocket change off the idea (unlike most artists who go the mixtape route and still struggle to give their ish away for free). If he'd released this a few weeks earlier I think he could have sold 500k overall, but waiting until the last week of the holiday season, I'm not sure he can pull it off.

blah blah blah to all y'all. Push your buttons or w/e was pointing out Target/Best Buy can't "compete" with Wal Mart because Wal Mart's numbers crush theirs....
Don't know why the hell he's trying to promote DD(Do you hate Kelly?).

Target's numbers are much closer to Best Buy's than Wal-Mart, though, and I think that was the point that jumpy was trying to make.

I wasn't talking about the store itself.
I was talking about the albums in stock and prices.
A Target consumer could go to a Walmart or Target to get the Beyonce album easily for about the same price.
I think many people automatically think Walmart sells albums way cheaper than other stores. Not true.

The only difference is that you would be able to buy the explicit version of Beyonce's album at Target. You can only buy the edited version at Wal-Mart.

^Yes, which is why I always go to Best Buy/Target.
Of course Target is not selling Bouncey.

Isn't Bieber's album an iTunes-only release? One article said as much, unless it was not accurate.
