I was clearly referring to the next single no matter what it is, is almost certain to be an under performer. I was not referring to Dark Horse at all. Just so you know, it wasn't that clear. I read what Spree read as well and thought you were referencing Dark Horse A #1 single that was originally designed to only be a buzz single can be considered an under performer? On what planet is this possible? There was context around the discussion about next singles. Not sure how anyone could've drawn the conclusion that reaching the pinnacle of success for a song in the US in terms of chart position and longevity can be considered under performing.

Yes, spree, but Katy is already in that elite group thanks to TD. I think that's why many people are wondering what the question is. She could be in a super elite group of artists with more than one album with 5 or more top 10 hits, but that list does not cover all the aforementioned artists.

Rhythm Nation needed one release not two. Only 5 singles were released from Teenage Dream. Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection the second release had two singles. Are you forgetting the #1 Pop hit The One That Got Away? We should forget that one, because Katy Perry blew her chances at setting the Hot 100 #1 record outright by releasing that over Hummingbird Heartbeat. As for this album, I easily see her getting one or two more singles out of it. And I still think This is How We Do is a certain Top 5 and a potential #1 at radio, so I don't see it as releasing a single for the Hell of it.

I'm going to sit back and watch the excuses come out about why it flopped when/if it gets released etc...

No, he had it right the way he said it. He's talking about artists who have more than one album which EACH have at least five top 10 hits.

I don't know about you, but I'm pretty sure that was a Katy Perry album. Maybe I'm not understanding what elite group this is? The elite group is how many albums have 5 Top 10 Pop hits or more on CHR. So two albums or more?

Wouldn't Janet have gotten 8 Top 10's if "State Of The World" was released? The airplay for that single was Top 6 or 7 I believe.

Top 20 for most artists is fantastic. At least this song did that and is still hanging on. Dark Horse amazes me though since it will not stop.

It has almost a -2000 bullet on Pop and is in the 70s on iTunes. The fact that it made it as high as it did has more to do with Radio's obsession with Katy Perry than the song itself.

They must be planning a re-release next or else I would have to think we'd be onto the 5th single by now.

I think it has more to do with Dark Horse STILL being Top 10 on overall airplay.

I still hear Dark Horse a lot on the radio and Birthday not as much but do hear it. There will be a 5th single I am sure. Dark Horse amazes me since it still sounds new.

Walking On Air is her next #1 BB100 and Airplay.
I love LL and TIHWD but I'm not sure if they will smash

Walking On Air is her next #1 BB100 and Airplay. I love LL and TIHWD but I'm not sure if they will smash I think the moment has passed for Walking On Air. Honestly Dark Horse has done far better than anyone's wildest expectations. Even now it's still so high in airplay that it'll be hard for a new single to move up the charts. Look at how Birthday struggled. Part of that was the fact that Dark Horse was soo popular and refuses to die. It still sounds fresh.

I think Walking On Air sounds different enough for Katy that it could catch on and pull a Dark Horse. WoA is 90s club/pop, and also sounds fresh. If it catches on, I think it'll be huge.

You guys are forgetting the huge difference between "Walking on Air" and "Dark Horse." "Dark Horse" caught on greatly as a hype single, "Walking on Air" did not.
