My god, def. having major visions of last summer/ Blurred Lines w/ these astronomical updates! lol. I think 'Happy' is getting even stronger daily, insane updates. This is positively looking like it'll knock Mariah down to #3 and Robin to #2. Happy is getting even MORE multi format love than BL= def. a possible record breaker. Airplay is one thing, bigger question will be how many weeks at #1 on the Hot 100.

The fact that it is Top 5 on only 2 of the formats is a good indicator of how massive this is going to be. This could be the first 5-6 million seller which means it could have at least 10-12 weeks at #1 unless something else bulldozes it.

I love the Happy song even before it became a hit so I've been listening to it for a while but I doubt it's going to be that many weeks at #1. People get burned out on songs especially when it starts to be everywhere. Once it begins to over saturate you'll start hearing the complaints and the backlash will begin. I give it about 4 weeks at #1.

No way- Happy looks like it's going to stay at #1 for a while. Unless a major artist releases a first single anytime soon- I really don't see Happy getting dethroned for a while. If there is no brand new single from a big artist- Happy will spend at #1 for at least 8 weeks.

I remember people predicting the same thing for Dark Horse. They were saying how it would be #1 for weeks on end and look what happened there. It's not like the other songs are standing still. Look at the updates that John Legend is getting. He's just one appearance away from that song breaking wide open. Every time he's performed it he's gotten tremendous sales increase. Plus this is the song that has gotten great audience scores in terms of likability and people not getting tired of it.

John Legend already peformed the song at the biggest music event, The Grammys. His updates are nowhere near the updates that Happy is getting.

I was driving to the gym a few weeks ago and needed new music on my iPhone, so while driving I went to iTunes, saw Happy for the first time, started listening to it, and within a minute I was dancing like a madman in my car while driving, then when the 1:30 second sample stopped I forgot I was just listening to a sample, immediately hit 'buy now'.

I have a feeling Happy and All Of Me will be the Blurred Lines blocking Get Lucky scenerio from last summer- both massive singles but one that's just beyond massive and will keep All Of Me at #2 for many many weeks (like Get Lucky).

It's funny. I make playlists for both me and my 8 year old son to play in the car, and I put Happy on his when the movie came out last July. And I immediately liked Happy so much I put it on my playlist too (annoying my son - because that song is HIS, apparently). I even put it on my own chart (#2, blocked from #1 by BL). I just never dreamed it would ever blow up like it has. I think the current top 5 on the hot 100 is fantastic!

Yeah, but also look at BL's run - similar gains to what "Happy" is experiencing right now, and even another hit song rising at about the same time ("Get Lucky") could not topple it. This is different from DH b/c even when DH was taking off, it did not have AI gains that huge, making it easier for someone else to eventually catch up. Plus, right now the closest things to another 'rising' song are "Talk Dirty" and "All of Me," which are both still pretty far back (and at any rate, "Happy"'s gains are such that it's distancing itself from those two songs in both airplay and sales, rather than them catching up).

Like Joe1240 said, it seems the only thing that could be in Pharrell's way is some random viral craze like Psy or Baauer that pops up out of nowhere - and even that might only be a hiccup in "Happy"'s overall time at the top. (see Baauer/Macklemore) Adele might be around the corner with the smash to end all smashes. Those possibilities aside, only major pop artists with a hyped lead single are really capable of shooting to #1 right away but pretty much all the the 'big' artists of today are past their lead singles or between eras. I don't know that "Happy" will get as many weeks as BL did, but only 4 weeks seems like a lowball guess. I'd guess 7-8.

Releasing Dark Horse as a pre-release single is also a factor that hurt the song. It had already sold over a million copies before it was officially released to radio. Those sales spaced out between 2-3 weeks would've helped it in the Digital department.
