And hey, if it means that sometimes a #1 from <10 years ago slips entirely off my radar, then I'm all for it. (Unless the #1 is one I really like. Seriously, does NOBODY play "Anything but Mine" anymore?!) I haven't heard "Anything But Mine" on any terrestrial station in at least 8 years. Y2Kountry played it once or twice while I was listening, since they came in existence. With all the recurrent play that "When Then Sun Goes Down" and "I Go Back" get, their no excuse for that gem to be forgotten. WYRK still freakin' spins "Keg In The Closet" every now and then...

So I was listening to The Highway this morning and what do I hear? Amy Dalley's "I Think You're Beautiful"!!!
It would be strange enough to hear that song on Y2Kountry since it only peaked at #40 on R&R in 2003, but to hear it on The Highway was just flat out odd. I know most don't have satellite radio here but it's really been bothering me why they played it. I wasn't listening to their morning show on a consistent basis, so perhaps there was some theme that I missed, who knows. I love the song but it's really bugging me, lol.

Haven't done one of these in a long time. Every Saturday morning my favorite station in Austin does a program called Country Gold Hall of Fame and is always filled with great music. I'm always praising this station and to me it is an example of a format that reflects how country music radio programming would be divided, one for Top 40 and another classic/traditional type of format. Anyways, here is a snapshot of about two hours from this morning:
"Midnight Rider," Willie Nelson "Just Another Love," Tanya Tucker "Roll on Mississippi," Charley Pride "Meet me in Montana," Dan Seals & Marie Osmond "Lynda," Steve Wariner "Ballad of the Alamo," Marty Robbins "The Auctioneer," Leroy Van Dyke "You Don't Know Me," Mickey Gilley "The Most Beautiful Girl," Charlie Rich "Long Haired Country Boy," The Charlie Daniels Band "Way Down Texas Way," Asleep at the Wheel "Driving My Life Away," Eddie Rabbitt "Heart Healer," Mel Tillis "Pancho and Lefty," Emmylou Harris "Mind Your Own Business," Hank Williams "Deep in the Heart of Texas," Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys "Rockin' Years," Dolly Parton with Ricky Van Shelton "One More With Feeling," Jerry Lee Lewis "Luckenbach, Texas," Waylon Jennings "Jose Cuervo," Shelly West "Millers Cave," Boby Bare "Feels So Right," Alabama "You Look So Good In Love," George Strait "I'll Go To My Grave Loving You," Statler Brothers "Sleeping Single In A Double Bed," Barbara Mandrell "Last Cheater's Waltz," T.G. Sheppard "1959," John Anderson "I'm Still Crazy," Vern Gosdin "Slide Off Your Satin Sheets," Johnny Paycheck "All the Gold In California," Larry Gatlin & the Gatlin Brothers "Abilene," George Hamilton IV "Ring On Her Finger, Time On Her Hands," Lee Greenwood

I did a lot of driving this weekend (commuted from Phoenix to El Paso, and then back), so I had the chance to listen to the radio a lot. Mostly I flipped between KNIX and KMLE (Phoenix's 2 stations) for the beginning of the drive, then I listened to KIIM (Tucson's Cumulus station) while I was in SE Arizona, and then I was able to pick up a small market, non-panel station (KNFT in southern New Mexico), and then El Paso has KHEY, an iHeartMedia station.
KNFT had an incredible playlist this afternoon. They shocked me by playing a couple of non-singles (Clare Dunn's "Cowboy Side Of You" and Miranda Lambert's "Roots And Wings"), they shocked me by playing FOUR female-led songs in a row, and they shocked me by mixing in some great recent tunes with classics.
These are the songs (in order) that I heard on KNFT:
1) Clare Dunn - "Move On" 2) Dolly Parton/Vince Gill - "I Will Always Love You" 3) Clare Dunn - "Cowboy Side Of You" 4) Miranda Lambert - "Roots And Wings" 5) Alabama - "The Closer You Get" 6) Charlie Worsham - "Want Me Too" 7) Josh Kelley - "Georgia Clay" 8) Rascal Flatts - "Prayin' For Daylight" 9) Brooks & Dunn - "Lost & Found" 10) Reba - "Going Out Like That" 11) Sawyer Brown - "The Walk" 12) George Strait - "Amarillo By Morning" 13) Kacey Musgraves - "Follow Your Arrow"
KIIM in Tucson was doing a "Nash Icon" weekend (it's a Cumulus station, but it's not branded as a Nash Icon one) and they mixed in a lot of great older tunes with plenty of current/recent material. Some of the transition were a bit jarring -- for example, they also played "Amarillo By Morning", but then they went right to Cole Swindell's "Hope You Get Lonely Tonight" -- but overall it was a pretty nice mix. They played a few older George Strait tunes, a couple of Garth tunes, Faith Hill's "The Way You Love Me", Tim McGraw's "The Cowboy In Me", Blake Shelton's "Austin", Travis Tritt's "I'm Gonna Be Somebody", and The Wilkinsons' "26 Cents".
I'm probably missing a few others that KIIM played, but I think I got most of them.

WBRF - Galax, Va Outlaw Drive at Five - 8/4/15
The Marshall Tucker Band - "Heard It in a Love Song" Kris Kristofferson - "Best of All Possible Worlds" Ray Wylie Hubbard - "Three Days Straight" Hank Williams - "I'm a Long Gone Daddy" Gary Stewart - "Flat Natural Born Good-Timin' Man" Johnny Paycheck - "11 Months and 29 Days" Alecia Elliott - "You Wanna What?" David Alan Coe - "Willie Waylon and Me" The Kentucky Headhunters - "Walk Softly On This Heart of Mine"
The title of the last song was not given, only that it featured guitar playing by Albert Lee, Vince Gill, & Brad Paisley. It was an instrumental, and after doing some quick research, I believe the title is "Luxury Liner."

^? I'm confused what does that mean. Lately Witl has done once a day a three song stretch of Bartender Automatic and Something In The Water followed by like Say You Do or Homegrown not bad at all. I've also heard this song on the radio a couple nights back.
Dixie Chicks Traveling Soldier
Just so refreshing.

WYRK is playing "She Don't Love You"...the reason this is humorous is because they just played it two hours ago! Saturday nights they do requests from 8 to midnight, so obviously the deejay isn't paying particular attention.

Ha it's funny you say that, I was in the car with my mother and I didn't have control of the radio, and I heard it come on and was thinking "glad they're still playing this". What was funny is I was in the car earlier and they played "Biscuits".

I have a personal playlist y'all might find kinda intriguing. I call it: "Road Trip Playlist". It is basically every single released to radio from each of the following artists, in chronological order.
-Martina McBride -George Strait -Reba McEntire -Sara Evans -Terri Clark -Toby Keith -Faith Hill -Josh Turner -Chris Young -Sugarland -Dixie Chicks -Carrie Underwood -Miranda Lambert -Zac Brown Band -Kellie Pickler -Cassadee Pope -Mickey Guyton (I know, she only has one... But I'm preparing for a wonderful future ;) )
I think that is all of them... Basically it is a bunch of artists that I truly enjoy. The only downside is I have to have most of their singles already in order to justify adding them to the playlist... I would totally add like Tim McGraw or Alan Jackson one day, but it will take awhile because I don't have many of their albums so I would still have to buy a lot of their music first.
I started this playlist in preparation for George's retirement tour! I went to see him and Martina in Nampa, Idaho, and so I made a playlist of all of their singles in chronological order for the road trip! (It was kind've an awkward playlist, because George had 1/3 of his hits before Martina arrived on the scene...) But anyway, I have just kept adding to it from there! It is a constant work in progress :) But you would not believe how fascinating it is to look at careers next to each other and compare them... Like, I never would think about what song Faith Hill had out at the time that George Strait had "True" on the charts. But now I can go look through my playlist and find out! It brings me much joy :)

A woman just called WYRK asking the deejay to play "that Shania song with Bryan White." The only problem is the deejay mistakenly played "You're Still The One"...

But judging off this playlist, I'd say throw in a old school Waylon Jennings song and maybe add some of the new Jason Isbell.

These are just songs from my personal collection that I thought, "hey this sounds radio friendly, I'll throw it in there". I'm open to suggestions from anyone (and thanks to you and raylatch for offering up ideas).
