If I'm being completely honest, try to not work in too many obscure or Americana artists. I need to know what exactly they want from your show or if this is a freelance type of thing to test it out? We don't currently have a college station where I go (we used to) so we just work at local stations to gain experience.

Yeah I figured the Americana thing might turn some people off, but I don't think the playlist i listed really has anything that could be deemed "obscure" lol. I honestly don't have a lot of old in my digital library surprisingly enough. But yeah this is a free type of show. My trainer said "you can go from a screaming death metal song to an opera song, we don't care as long as it doesn't have profanity or references to alcohol, drugs yada yada...". So that's the trouble is finding an audience. Anyone can actually listen online here: wnia.niagara.edu/player/I have 2 half hour slots so at the most I'm probably fitting in approximately 10 songs at the most for each time period.

Not sure where to put this but something bizarre has happened to my local Cumulus station. This station has gone from an extremely modern-sounding station that plays 95% current music and spins the #1 song like 80 times a week, to a station that suddenly plays more oldies than current songs. Now it seems like two out of three songs are songs from the 1990s and before, which has totally baffled me because I don't think I'd ever heard a song from before 2010 on this station until a few weeks ago. I just don't understand what's going on or why this is happening. I do know that Cumulus stations aren't locally programmed, so I was wondering if anyone else has noticed a shift from modern to classic country on their Cumulus stations? (For what it's worth, the syndicated programs America's Morning Show, Nash Nights Live, and Kickin' It with Kix have not changed their music selection.) I'm just totally dumbfounded and at a loss for words about this 180 this station has done, and of course since I'm far from a fan of traditional country, I'm very disappointed in this change.

^ Well, that's odd then because I can't find anywhere that WRKN is switching to the Nash Icon format, which is the only logical explanation I have for two of every three songs being from the 90's and beyond.
It is worth noting that 37 of their top 50 played currents/recurrents have seen a decrease in spins, with some having a dramatic decrease.

It's just...strange, lol. I have several other local country stations available, but this had always been my personal favorite. I did message them on Facebook expressing that I preferred the old programming arrangement, and I received a polite but very generic response in which they basically just thanked me for listening. I have heard some good classics, notably "Don't Take the Girl," "A Little Too Late," and "Anything but Mine." However, I'm just trying to wrap my head around such a dramatic change in music style. It'd be like one day logging on to Pulse and seeing that everyone had turned into bro-country fans and begun bashing traditional country.

It's just...strange, lol. I don't see anything about it online yet but from what you described, it definitely sounds like it switched from Nash (current/recent country music) to the Nash Icon brand (lots of 90's stuff with some newer stuff sprinkled in occasionally).

Judging by the station's social media comments they did not flip to NASH Icons, they just decided to "mix things up" and add variety to their music. But this change is too drastic and noticeable. Subtlety is key. I literally feel like I'm listening to a completely different station. You just can't do a complete 180 like this without losing some of your loyal listeners. If they wanted to start playing two-thirds traditional music the change should have been gradual. Plus I can't imagine this going over well with some of the younger listeners. A lot of these songs are from before listeners in their 20s would have even been born. That would be like a station for middle-aged adults playing Merle Haggard and Hank Williams. But honestly I find myself listening to my own playlists on Spotify, as well as iTunes radio, more often than the regular radio these days, as I am given more control over the songs I hear this way, so I will quickly get over the loss of this radio station.

^ The only lyrics I could make out on "Kick It in the Sticks" were the part where he goes "mumble mumble slur mumble mumble kiggiinnastigg arrkhahjkjshljklhf it's hard to bargle nawdle zouss??? with all these marbles in my mouth."
WATZ played an odd triple today: "1994" by Jason Aldean, followed by "8th of November" by Big & Rich (with the Kris Kristofferson intro no less), followed by "Dixie on My Mind" by Hank Williams, Jr. Holy musical whiplash.

Sorry for the doublepost.
Here's about the first half of a classics show that WKCQ Saginaw does on Sunday nights. Unfortunately I lost the station just before they played my request of "Crazy Over You" by Foster & Lloyd (the second time I've called in a request; first was for "Leap of Faith" by Lionel Cartwright about a year ago), but I still heard some treasures. Given how mainstream the station usually is, I really treasure their classics show when I get to hear it.
7 PM John Anderson - Swingin' Ronnie Milsap - Stranger in My House Randy Travis - On the Other Hand T.G. Sheppard - I Loved 'em Every One Alabama - 40 Hour Week (For a Livin') Shania Twain - (If You're Not in It for Love) I'm Outta Here! Gene Watson - Fourteen Carat Mind Kenny Rogers - The Gambler Hank Williams, Jr. - All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight Waylon Jennings - Rainy Day Woman Mel McDaniel - Shoe String Garth Brooks - That Summer George Strait - Adalida (interview with Sylvia) Sylvia - Drifter

Not really a playlist per se, but I just wanted to comment about all the music I've been hearing on the radio lately. Long story short: I've been listening to the radio a LOT the last few weeks (and haven't been on Pulse much) because I'm at home right now helping to harvest our 800+ acres of corn, which means about 60-70 hours in the tractor every week, hauling corn to the bins or to the elevator. And when you're driving through the field or down a back road at 20 mph 6 days a week, that makes for a lot of time to listen to the radio.
All the stations around here (northern Iowa) are small market stations that don't report to Billboard or Mediabase. Naturally, the songs that I can't escape right now are "Strip It Down", "Anything Goes", and "Break Up With Him" (and I hate all 3 of them, lol). But just going down the chart, I've also been hearing "Smoke Break" a ton, as well as "Nothin' Like You", "I'm Comin' Over", and "Gonna". No surprise that I'm hearing those songs the most, given their respective positions on the charts right now. I also hear "Stay A Little Longer", "Burning House", "Run Away With You", "Top Of The World", "Dibs", "I Love This Life", "Die A Happy Man", "Break Up In A Small Town", "We Went", "21", and "Live Forever" quite a bit. Surprisingly, the one song that I haven't heard the last few weeks is "I Got The Boy". It seems like no stations around here are playing it, which is really odd.
I'm not hearing the new ATH song too much yet -- most of the stations are here are still playing "Smoke" quite a bit. I've heard Chase Bryant's "Little Bit Of You" and Brad Paisley's "Country Nation" a few times, but not too much just yet. I'm starting to here "Riser" (yay!) a bit more, and also "Beautiful Drug" (meh).
As for the songs in the 30's and lower, I hear a few of them quite a bit, and the others virtually not at all. The ones I have been hearing are "Cold Beer Conversation" (probably 4 times or so), "Real Men Love Jesus" (at least a dozen times), "Stone Cold Sober", "Ain't No Trucks In Texas", and "Until They Don't Love You" (and no, there aren't any Cumulus stations around here...these are all small, independently-owned stations). I've heard "Tomorrow Tonight" once or twice (apparently this one is done though), and I've already heard "Hole In A Bottle", "Roller Coaster Ride", "Move On", and "Head Over Boots" 1-2 times each. I even heard Ryan Kinder's "Tonight" more than 2 weeks ago already.
Songs I'm not hearing at all (yet): "I Like The Sound Of That", "Blue Bandana", "Drinkin' Town With A Football Problem" (this one literally describes every town around here, so I'm stunned it hasn't taken off), "White Lightning", "Yup", "Mind Reader", "Night's On Fire", "Better In Boots", "Pain Killer", "Boy & A Girl Thing", "Bad For You", "Southern Belle", "Next Boyfriend", "I Met A Girl", "Freaks Like Me", etc (pretty much all the songs that are really low on the chart or haven't charted yet).

Holy crap! What an amazing 12-hour playlist that is! Literally not a single station-changer for me. Other than a couple recent hits that were run into the ground such as "Doin' What She Likes", which I still would enjoy well enough to not shut off the station because of all the other amazing songs they had been playing around it!

This is what I heard on MusicChoice's "Country Hits" channel on 1/30, starting around 2:30 PM and going for the next 12 hours. Have at it. Diamond Rio - Beautiful Mess Billy Currington - Don't Keith Urban - Making Memories of Us Terri Clark - I Wanna Do It All Toby Keith - I Love This Bar Tim McGraw and Faith Hill - Let's Make Love Keith Urban - Without You Luke Bryan - Drink a Beer Blake Shelton - Home Toby Keith - Who's Your Daddy? Billy Currington - Hey Girl Brooks & Dunn - Put a Girl in It Taylor Swift - Love Story Tim McGraw with Faith Hill - It's Your Love Martina McBride - I Love You Reba McEntire - Strange Kenny Chesney - Pirate Flag Lonestar - Amazed Sugarland - All I Want to Do Tons of great songs on this playlist but these would definitely be times I would change the station.

I would've changed it from the beginning with "God Must Be Busy" and missed everything lol.
