"Being named Billboard Woman of the Year for a second time is this amazing early birthday present," Swift said in her opening remarks. "I turn 25 at midnight tonight, and I fully intend to to celebrate like it's 1989." After only polite audience laughter, she added, "I knew it was a bad joke when i wrote it, and I just did it anyway!" "I've taken this year to stand up for my value as a songwriter, as a businesswoman and a content creator," she explained. "I'm very well aware the music industry is changing, and it will continue to change. I'm open to that change and progress. I'm not open to the financial model that is currently in place. I really believe that we in the music industry can work together to bond technology with integrity. And I think we can teach a younger generation about an investment in music, not just the ephemeral consumption of it. I think that there has to be a way for streaming or any future way we access music to fairly compensate the writers. "Events like this where we have the most powerful people in music all gathered in one room, events like this give me hope that the right conversations will start to take place, and I invite you all to join in the conversation," Swift continued. "The greatest moment of the year for me was when my fans went out and proved that if you provide them with a bold statement and pour your life into an album, they'll buy it." "I want to thank Billboard for deciding to make me Woman of the Year for the second time...I really just feel like we need to continue to try and offer something to a younger generation of musicians. Because somewhere right now your future Woman of the Year is probably sitting in a piano lesson or in a girls choir. Today, right now, we need to take care of her. Thank you." www.billboard.com/articles/events/women-in-music-2014/6405600/taylor-swift-woman-year-honor-speechThanks for posting that! I don't know if I am the only one, but it was extremely hard to read your post because of your avatar flashing at me. Again, it's probably just me, but wanted to let you know regardless. :)

I wonder if Taylor made an entire Christmas album ala Wrapped in Red (with a few originals), how well that would sell? I feel it would do very well considering her Christmas EP still sells well today and I hear her songs from it all the time.

I can't wait for this 1989 tour to begin and come here in June! She really changed up "I Knew You Were Trouble" with all the horns. I love that! Come on 2015!

HMM I have to be honest I can't stand that instagram of her party. It's like the epitome of fake friends and "the cool kids" from high school acting like their life >>> anyone elses. Taylor is 25 though so it's par for course.
I'm gonna go listen to l OOTW and cleanse my palate.

This should mark the 5th calendar year that Taylor has sold over 4 million albums in the US. She's done it in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012 and now 2014.

Nick J, Jack Antonoff and Lena Dunham were also in the house. Selena was also there.

Best article about Taylor at the Z100 Jingle Ball. Everyone Is “Bae”: On The Scene at Jingle Ballby Josh Duboff December 13, 2014 6:29 pm Transcending this sea of lithe, appealing, vague crop-top-and-leather-pants-ness, though, was the final act of the night, Taylor Swift. Swift is in a league of her own right now in terms of mass-appeal and sales-power and pop-cultural-pervasiveness, and, when she took the stage at 11:45 p.m., it was as if the previous three hours had been a warm-up of sorts. The four girls sitting in the row ahead of us—who had remained seated, semi-expressionless, for the entire concert—jumped up the second Swift appeared, all four bobbing their heads emphatically to the opening chords of “Welcome to New York.” Swift’s stage presence (she speaks with the clarity and urgency of an evangelist) and the way she connects to her audience (“This is the last song of the night, no one’s going to judge you for how you dance”) are unparalleled. Her hits hit the same pleasure centers as Instagram likes and candy bars. Swift turned 25 at midnight, a few minutes before her set came to a close (my hopes that Karlie Kloss and Selena Gomez would emerge from backstage with a birthday cake in the shape of her cat Olivia Benson went unfulfilled), and she would go on to celebrate her birthday later that night at a party attended by Beyoncé, Jay Z and Justin Timberlake. The way things are going, she will probably end up winning the presidential election in 2016. In a pop landscape in which everyone is bae, there is, decidedly, only one Tay. www.vanityfair.com/vf-hollywood/2014/12/jingle-ball-2014-new-york-review-taylor-swift-turns-25?mbid=social_facebook

I know this may sound crazy but I can see "Bad Blood" working on Urban, especially if she were to add a rapper to the song. If Katy Perry & Lorde were able to go Top 10 on Urban radio I don't see why Taylor couldn't make a dent if they pushed for it. i do too, drake or kendrick would be cool. i think it might be some sort of breakthrough hit too and may inspire her next album to have an urban/rhythmic sound to it

The only rapper I want Taylor to work with honestly is Drake. I would die if she collaborated with The Weeknd though.

The way that Taylor has been talking about streaming and the music industry lately have been a little grating.
"I think that there has to be a way for streaming or any future way we access music to fairly compensate the writers."
With a net worth of over 200 million dollars, does she feel like she is being under compensated? I think she needs to shift her argument in a way that clarifies that she is using her star power to stand up for less known writers that don't own a multimillion dollar Manhattan apartment.

I am pretty sure that is what that quote is saying.

"I think that there has to be a way for streaming or any future way we access music to fairly compensate the writers." With a net worth of over 200 million dollars, does she feel like she is being under compensated? I think she needs to shift her argument in a way that clarifies that she is using her star power to stand up for less known writers that don't own a multimillion dollar Manhattan apartment. She is - she clarifies that she's talking about "the writers" in that quote, and she recently gave another speech saying she wants to protect the young girl who's currently taking piano lessons to become a star in music. She also isn't. This particular quote is probably the worst example to make your case (since she mentions writers), but there is no ambiguity here: Taylor Swift is also interested in protecting *her* music and *her* payout. She's not being 100% altruistic in going after Spotify; she's made it very clear she wants to be paid what she deems appropriate for her life's work. More important, does she need to change her stance? It hasn't really cost her... Only a handful of notable arguments have emerged agaisnt her: -- Dave Grohl (the "old school" musician argument) - He wants you to come to his shows. Instead of worrying about how people get your album, make good music, put on a show, people will come, and you'll get that paper. -- BANKS (the "rising star" argument) - People got to know her because of Spotify. Without that kind of access to her music, she's not a star, so it would be silly to oppose Spotify and act like it's best for business. The fans that speak out against her are largely people that call her greedy/say she's not keeping with the times, and they're not going to change their viewpoint just because she says, "I don't care about me - I care about the musicians, writers, producers, engineers, etc who will get paid less." People who are opposing her stance on this are cynical - and cynical people are going to see through the facade and know she's also protecting herself.

Thank fucking God she didn't commission that, and she never will after hearing it. Pitbull, why do you insist on doing this time and time again? Lorde posted this yesterday: And the picture with Bey, Jay, JT, and HAIM makes me happier than I can say.
