Top Artists of 2015 (#10 - 6)2015 YEC Mega-Post (link) 10. Foo Fighters(Last Year: #9)Charting Songs: 7Biggest Hit: Congregation [PK: 12 WC: 28]The Foos are a hallmark of consistency on the Alternative format, and they showcased the same quality on my chart by only dropping one spot since last year. With the standout hit Something From Nothing seeing out the end of its run, the group was left to lean on album cuts like I Am A River (my favorite track from the new album) and followup singles Congregation and Outside to carry the bulk of the weight for the group. A late EP release in Saint Cecelia supplemented those tracks with The Neverending Sigh. While their radio success may have slowed down a bit from past eras, Grohl and company show now signs of slowing down their musical output. I enjoyed Sonic Highways more than most and hope that the group continues their consistency into the new year. 9. Twenty One PilotsCharting Songs: 4 Biggest Hit: Goner [PK: 4 WC: 23]Out of all the bands to make this list, this entry is probably the one I would have least expected to make it this year, especially hitting Top 10. My previous history with the band includes hating House of Gold, initially despising Car Radio (but then having it grow on me), and finally having the group click with House of Gold, months and months after its radio run. There are still a bunch of tracks I'm not a big fan of from these guys (Ride and The Judge from Blurryface are among them), but with three Top 10s this year ( Goner, Tear In My Heart & Fairly Local), when one sticks it sticks. Stressed Out also had a long run that was cut a little short and low due to radio overplay but I'll probably enjoy the song a few years down the road when I don't hear it every ten minutes. I'm not really sure where this band is going next, or if I'll enjoy the direction, but with their most recent project they definitely moved in the right direction. 8. Starset(Last Year: #24) Charting Songs: 6Biggest Hit: Carnivore [PK: 1 WC: 39]Starset is among the small list of returning artists from 2015, making the biggest jump up 18 spots from #24 last year. While the first two singles My Demons and Carnivore ruled last year's rankings, the latter track took the chart by storm, holding #1 for four weeks and opening the door to Halo, It Has Begun, Let It Die and others to stage runs of their own. The orchestral backings of most of their tracks are a big draw, as well as the powerful choruses and punching guitars. I'll talk more about the big hits when I reach their spots on the song countdown, but I hope that with a successful 3-radio single foundation built from Transmissions they can come back next album and translate that into even larger success. Looking forward to see where the project goes next, though I don't expect anything next year. 7. Queens Of The Stone AgeCharting Songs: 8Biggest Hit: Smooth Sailing [PK: 5 WC: 26]QoTSA win the "Band I previously knew about but discovered in great detail, finding out they're among my all-time favorites" award this year. ...Like Clockwork is a phenomenal album, probably the album I listened to front to back the most times this year. With 8/10 of its tracks having main chart runs (and another, Fairweather Friends currently Bubbling Under), they may make history by being the first artist to have a full album chart. Stay tuned for that. With standouts like the swagger-filled Smooth Sailing, haunting I Appear Missing, and driving If I Had A Tail the group won me over, but really digging into the deep cuts of the album ( Kalopsia, Keep Your Eyes Peeled, etc.) was where its consistent quality was evident. A bunch of old singles that didn't chart also really grew on me this year, among them First It Giveth, Sick,Sick,Sick, Millionaire, and Little Sister. I'm anxiously awaiting more material from Josh Homme, but if he needs to take another long break to make something as great as ...Like Clockwork again, he can take all the time he needs. Hope the band gets selected for the Pulse Top 10s soon, I already have my list made up. 6. X Ambassadors Charting Songs: 5 Biggest Hit: Unsteady [PK: 6 WC: 32]With Jungle as the only representative from the 2015 chart, I didn't expect these guys to break out as impressively as they did. As soon as I heard Unsteady the passion in the vocals and the simple instrumental cut through the other distractions at the time. While the song's peak was ultimately overshadowed by Renegades' quick rise and fall, it had impressive staying power and managed to log over 30 weeks. X Ambassadors released VHS this year, and while I wasn't thrilled with the overall project, there were a few other cuts that got attention, including Jealous Gorgeous and Nervous. Ultimately unsatisfied, I went back to their earlier material that I hadn't heard before and snapped up Unconsolable for a late run with the potential for more of their tracks to make the jump in 2016. Happy these guys got huge success in 2015, and especially happy that Unsteady seems to be unfazed by Renegades' insane airplay totals.

Top Artists of 2015 (#5 - 1)2015 YEC Mega-Post (link) 5. Imagine DragonsCharting Songs: 8Biggest Hit: Shots [PK: 2 WC: 22]Imagine Dragons delivered their follow-up effort to the record-breaking Night Visions this year in Smoke + Mirrors. With an impressive 8 tracks charted throughout the year, they ranged from radio singles ( Shots) to great overlooked deep cuts ( Friction). While the band had some issues deciding their intent behind the album (trying to appeal to Pop and Alt formats simultaneously with I Bet My Life) I still felt the project was solid despite being a slight step back from their debut. With the deluxe edition's release Thief found its way onto the chart. I doubt that the group will stay silent in 2016, but I hope they stray away from the drums in Roots and move towards a more cohesive sound for their next project. 4. Tame ImpalaCharting Songs: 5 Biggest Hit: Let It Happen [PK: 1 WC: 38]Tame Impala's Currents was near the top of most year-end album charts this year, and for good reason. The album showcased Kevin Parker's ability to combine sweeping, swirling synthesizers with fantastic baselines and vocals. Let It Happen was the standout track on a standout album, but other tracks managed to grab lengthy runs, 'Cause I'm A Man, New Person, Same Old Mistakes, and The Less I Know The Better among them. While I did miss the driving guitars from Lonerism cuts like Elephant they would have seemed terribly out of place on this record. 3. Big Data(Last Year: #15) Charting Songs: 7Biggest Hit: Clean [PK: 1 WC: 25]Big Data earns the highest spot for an artist that returned from the 2015 countdown (#15 there), and for obvious reason. The release of his debut album 2.0 provided a collection of catchy and powerful tracks with many contributors, including Bear Hands, Joywave, Jamie Lidell, and White Sea. One of my favorite albums of the year, tracks like Clean (why wasn't this a single?!), Big Dater, and Sick For Me showcased Alan Wilikis' talent in selecting featured performers as well as crafting irresistible melodies. While his success on radio was mostly limited to my #1 song of last year, I have hope that he'll try to release something in the new year that could stick on radio. The threepeat seems unlikely for 2016, but who knows? All that's confirmed so far is that Big Data makes some great music. 2. Robert DeLongCharting Songs: 5Biggest Hit: Don't Wait Up [PK: 1 WC: 28*]DeLong timed his burst onto the chart scene perfectly for this chart. The first discovery was Global Concepts, which began its rise only a few weeks before Long Way Down flew up the ranks, eventually peaking at the penultimate position. DeLong's sophomore record In The Cards brought 2-week #1 Don't Wait Up to the table, as well as Better Days, Acid Rain and Posessed to close out the year. I really need to go back and listen to DeLong's first album once I'm finished with charting tracks from his recent effort. I recently saw a video of DeLong playing one of his tracks live on a late-night show, and was fascinated with the apparatus he brought to the performance. Jealousy was just picked as the third single and it may see some action in 2016, but I'm curious to see where DeLong's future lies on the format. Don't Wait Up got robbed, but his next project should prove whether he has longevity or not. 1. AWOLNATION Charting Songs: 8 Biggest Hit: Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf) [PK: 1 WC: 34]The most common form of disappointment an artist can offer is the sophomore slump. After years of crafting their successful debut album, a quick turnaround on the followup can draw the ire of fans and critics. So after I loved Megalithic Symphony, it was easy to jump to those conclusions and expect Run to be subpar. Aaron Bruno didn't disappoint. With the outstanding lead single Hollow Moon (more on that later), and viral Run, the pre-release tracks set the stage for the second album release. Upon a first listen I was happily surprised and found just as many great cuts on the second album as the first. With I Am, Woman Woman, Jailbreak and others staging impressive runs of their own, this was truly the year of AWOLNATION on my chart. While I wasn't the biggest fan of the order of single choices, I am confident Woman Woman will continue to boost the band's image into the new year, and I am excited to see where the project goes next. Expect to see a few more tracks from Run trickle in through the beginning of 2016. Also as a side note, Portugal. The Man didn't make the year-end artist chart this year, but did have the most songs charted in 2015, with 9 total. If they come out with a new album (they better), I'm sure they'll rectify their absence this year.

I haven't commented in a while and I'm sorry about that. :( However, I really like your EOY charts so far.
Regarding the Top Artists list, it's a strong Top 5 for me and good to see Robert DeLong and Tame Impala, among the other artists that made the cut as well. On the other hand, there are so many good songs that I like in the Top 100 songs, like "Blame It on Me", "My Type", "R.I.P. 2 My Youth", "Stressed Out" and "Throne", among others too.

Ghost hold the top slot for a second week as From The Pinnacle To The Pit shows no signs of slowing down. Broken Bells hold strong at #2 with It's That Talk Again, spending their 10th week in the Top 10. Parkway Drive and Vice Grip move up to #3, showing impressive Top 10 longevity so far. The Neighbourhood continue their unlikely rise with R.I.P. 2 My Youth now at #4 on the chart. Wake Up Call drops two slots as Cirice falls one. The big mover this week is Rabbits Foot from Turbowolf, entering the Top 10 at #7 from #13 last week. Trip Switch holds at #8, spending its 21st week in the Top 10, extending its impressive mark even further. Love Me sticks at #9 and may struggle to gain more positions. Finally, Reapers falls three positions to round out the Top 10. Arkells earn the highest debut this week with Come To Light. This is the Canadian group's third charting track; they hope to perform as well as Leather Jacket's #7 peak. White Rabbits needed to followup big hit Percussion Gun at some point, and this week's entry of They Done Wrong/We Done Wrong at #82 ties that loose end. Things Happen from Dawes re-enters the chart at #84. The track had a four week run a few months back, peaking at #89. It's the 11th re-entry in chat history, and the first since Death Cab For Cutie in November. The success of re-entries on my chart has been mixed, but I think this instance has a good shot of improving greatly on its past run. Twenty One Pilots log their third radio single on the chart at #89, as Ride bursts onto the chart. Somehow overlooked that track on my first listen of Blurryface, and was happy to rediscover it after the single announcement. The last three entries join from the Bubbling Under section last week. Dead Sara's Weatherman is in at #91, Middle Class Rut add Pick Up Your Head at #97, and Benjamin Booker follows up his #24-peaking Violent Shiver at #100 with Wicked Waters. All three tracks have an uphill battle to fight to have massive success on the chart, but anything can happen. Soul Coughing grab their 5th Bubbling Under #1 track, as I Miss The Girl positions itself for a debut in the near future. Black Me Out holds on to the Recurrent throne for a third week. Also as a quick mention, Little Monster sits at the bottom position on the Recurrent chart in its 36th week on that chart. It pushed the longevity mark on that chart away from R U Mine?'s 32 weeks a while ago, and I felt is was important to mention before it left the chart hierarchy. The Year-End chart rolls on, with the countdown entering the Top 50 songs today. Meanwhile, the chart rolls on in its 102nd week.

Top Songs of 2015 (#50 - 41) 50. Slipknot ~ Killpop Run: 85-79-66-61-51-45-38-29-14-9-6-7-5-7-12-18-27-33-46-59-76-94-off E.Date: 7/1/15 | P.Date: 9/23/15 PK: 5 WC: 22 This song wasn't the catalyst for Slipknot's meteoric rise from relative chart obscurity to grabbing multiple Top 10 hits, but it still proved to be a powerful track through the fall months. Slipknot's more melodic leaning tracks tend to be where my enjoyment lies, and the powerful chorus of this song gets stuck in your head after a few listens. Wish this had been sent earlier to radio and Custer was ignored entirely, it might have had similar success to the earlier singles. 49. Kasabian ~ bumblebeee Run: 85-78-64-51-42-33-26-17-14-13-10-10-11-16-21-25-29-42-50-63-72-91-off E.Date: 7/15/15 | P.Date: 9/23/15 PK: 10 WC: 22
bumblebee's chorus fits into the rare category of being impossible to sit still while being listened to. Great hype track that leads off 48:13 with unrestrained energy. The relative flop of stevie didn't slow this track's ascent at all. Kasabian put together a solid project despite some panning from critics. I've always wondered why the group never had much charting action in the US (though eez-eh did sneak in the Alt Top 50 for a day or two), but hopefully that changes in the future.
48. Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars ~ Uptown Funk Run: 49-18-7-1-1-1-2-1-2-4-5-5-6-9-15-19-23-32-38-45-53-61-65-79-95-off E.Date: 11/26/14 | P.Date: 12/17/14 PK: 1(4w) WC: 25(19)
Uptown Funk is one of the tracks on this countdown that got screwed by splitting the peak of its run between two different years. I'll do an all-time countdown at some point in the future and its status among the chart titans can really be discovered. There's not much to say about this track that hasn't been said. Irresistibly catchy, and despite hearing it on the radio dozens and dozens of times I'm still not burned out on it (which is the true measure of a perfect pop song imo). Also sad that the Hot 100 introduced the 52-week recurrent rule, as I was really curious to see how many weeks the track would fit in. 47. Atlas Genius ~ Molecules Run: 88-87-83-81-77-75-73-67-49-34-23-15-8-5-3-4-9-15-23-26-37-44-60-78-99-off E.Date: 7/1/15 | P.Date: 10/7/15 PK: 3 WC: 25
Just as it did on radio (though not to the degree of Trojans), Molecules slowly climbed its way through the ranks of my chart to finally peak at #3. Taking almost two months to climb the first 15 positions, the track caught fire in the Fall just as Inanimate Objects released. I hope that the band send another single (A Perfect End plz) and don't end the era here as there are several single-worthy choices left on the album and I'd hate to see the group's momentum slow after only two albums. 46. FIDLAR ~ 40oz. On Repeat Run: 93-76-68-52-29-22-17-15-9-7-6-6-9-13-18-24-35-46-52-58-... E.Date: 8/19/15 | P.Date: 10/28/15 PK: 6 WC: 20*
This sarcastic and juvenile track was sent to radio a few months ago with no response. I can see why, as the song firmly toes the line between grating and endearing. Initially the track reminded me of a rougher Cage the Elephant, and the momentum propelled it to a Top 10 peak. Sadly I couldn't find anything else on Too that caught my ear, as many of the themes and lyrics that FIDLAR explore are identical, but this track came out of obscurity to have one of the surprise runs of the year. 45. Foals ~ What Went Down Run: 85-80-74-72-71-67-59-54-51-45-38-31-26-20- 19-20-26-31-31-35-38-42-46-58-65-76-93-98-... E.Date: 6/24/15 | P.Date: 9/30/15 PK: 19 WC: 28* I don't like to regret chart peaks, but if I had to list some this year What Went Down would be near the top of the list. The combination of a few singles from their album charting at once with the track being a little slow to grow on me left it stuck with a #19 peak. The slow descent did help balance the scales, and the track did break the record for longest chart run without a Top 10 peak (29 Weeks), so it did bring home some hardware. I hope this is the second single after Mountain At My Gates finally falls on radio. 44. Cold War Kids ~ First Run: 74-61-46-38-31-23-19-16-11-12-14-17-17-20-28-34-43-53-62-71-82-79-87-off E.Date: 3/4/15 | P.Date: 4/29/15 PK: 11 WC: 23
Hey look! Songs that peaked too low back to back on the year-end chart! Weird. First first debuted in the early Spring, rising quickly to a #11 peak as the song was very slowly building on Alternative radio. Before the track became the Alternative winter juggernaut of 2015, it was already on its way out of my chart. Five weeks at #1 on the Recurrent chart amended some of those injustices. Nathan Willett's vocals soar over the minimal instrumental, showcasing the tortured emotion of heartbreak. Hope these guys can force a third single through all of the recurrent play (Hot Coals?) and continue their successful Hold My Home era. 43. Starset ~ Halo
Run: 85-75-63-58-49-42-38-29-27-23-21-20-14-13-12-11-12-18-25-33-40-49-59-73-72-92-off E.Date: 12/3/14 | P.Date: 3/18/15 PK: 11 WC: 26(21) Transmissions is a phenomenal album, and while phenomenal albums are rare they aren't completely unheard of. What is unheard of is when a label manages to pick the perfect order of singles, especially for a debut artist. Halo's brilliant chorus (maybe second only to My Demons on the album) is the highlight, and the track enjoyed half a year on the chart, almost giving Starset three consecutive Top 10 hits. 42. Kasabian ~ bow Run: 64-47-29-19-12-9-7-7-6-5-7-12-22-28-37-44-55-63-69-75-99-off E.Date: 3/4/15 | P.Date: 5/6/15 PK: 5 WC: 21 I always think it's cool when multiple members of a band share the vocal load from a project. Sergio Pizzorno's vocals suit the theme of this track perfectly, illustrating the confusion and anger of a troubled relationship. This song went where lead single eez-eh couldn't on my chart, giving the group their first Top 10 hit and opening the door for a steady stream of Kasabian singles to close out the year. 41. The Chemical Brothers ft. Q-Tip ~ Go Run: 94-91-90-84-67-55-44-31-23-17-14-14-12-13-11-12-18-25-36-45-54-61-66-69-77-92-... E.Date: 7/8/15 | P.Date: 10/14/15 PK: 11 WC: 26*
Q-Tip's verses really match the instrumental of this track. His timing and intensity is directly tied to the music and it makes the song sound tight and controlled. When the track bursts into the titular chorus, it gives the build of the verse a perfect payoff. Sad that it couldn't fit into the Top 10, but there's never enough room there for all of the great songs. Just got around to checking out a second track (Wide Open ft. Beck) from The Chemical Brothers' most recent project, and if the rest of the record matches those two cuts expect to see some more entries in the new year.

Top Songs of 2015 (#40 - 31) 40. Catfish and the Bottlemen ~ Kathleen Run: 98-93-92-89-79-69-62-51-39-28-16-10-6-3-1-1-3-4-7-16-20-28-33-40-50-61-81-100-off E.Date: 11/5/14 | P.Date: 2/11/15 PK: 1(2w) WC: 28(19) It's a shame this track couldn't crack the Top 10 on Alternative. I really liked the garagey feel of the song and it felt like a breath of fresh air after the format's hyperfocus on indie pop in 2013 and 2014. It would have been a few spots higher had the beginning of its run not been trapped in 2014. This came up the format together with several similarly rougher tracks just missing Top 10 on the format (I'm Only Joking, Trainwreck 1979, etc.) and I wish it had bucked the trend. Hope to see these guys back with another great project soon. 39. Arkells ~ Leather Jacket Run: 97-78-61-47-35-24-14-11-9-7-9-12-20-22-20-27-33-36-42-50-64-91-off E.Date: 5/13/15 | P.Date: 7/15/15 PK: 7 WC: 22
Shoutout to my Canadian friends Cody and Pipa for bringing this song to my attention. Never heard of these guys before this track and to this date it's one of my most regularly played songs. The chorus is infectious, and the piano backdrop of the instrumental really helps the chorus build in an epic way. It lasted most of the summer on my chart, and then went on to have one of the most impressive climbs against the tide in Recurrent chart history, currently (as of the 1/13 chart) sitting at #3. As my knowledge of the group increases look forward to more songs charting from them in 2016.
38. Big Data ft. Bear Hands ~ Sick For Me Run: 91-77-67-56-48-35-24-17-15-12-9-9-9-8-10-13-18-26-36-49-65-83-off E.Date: 7/1/15 | P.Date: 9/30/15 PK: 8 WC: 22
Big Data's 2.0 brought forth a bunch of great contributors that really boosted the final product. Bear Hands' Dillon Rau adds his unique vocals to the chorus of Sick For Me, and in the process enhances the song immensely. The driving electronics in the background help build an eerie aesthetic for the track. There are a bunch of tracks that could have been great radio singles on this project, including this one. Unfortunately the label cut the promo cycle short so it doesn't look like anything else will be happening there. This track is one of 5 Big Data cuts to make the Top 10 on my chart, tied for #1 all-time with Portugal. The Man. 37. X Ambassadors ~ Renegades Run: 78-58-45-34-27-22-18-12-8-6-6-5-4-4-7-11-23-37-67-off E.Date: 5/6/15 | P.Date: 7/29/15 PK: 4 WC: 19
This song is really good, but taking extreme effort of sounding as anti-hipster as possible, it isn't as good as its success on the charts. The catchiness and wide appeal of the track really helped it rocket up the charts (combined with an On The Verge deal on Alt), and it translated to a reasonably successful Pop radio run. I've probably said this several times elsewhere, but I'm happy that this had its success and also that it seems as if it's not going to block Unsteady and other singles from their own success. 36. Alabama Shakes ~ Future People Run: 65-47-41-31-25-18-12-9-6-5-5-6-9-15-19-25-38-47-59-79-off E.Date: 5/6/15 | P.Date: 7/8/15 PK: 5 WC: 20
I've heard rumblings that this was a mistake to send to radio as the second single, and I completely disagree. It's one of the catchiest tracks on the album, and Brittany Howard's vocals (while slightly unintelligible) blast through the guitar licks on the chorus. I think the issue was that the band is more suited to the AAA format so any other track would have struggled following up Don't Wanna Fight. On my chart, it grabbed a clean Top 5 peak and had a relatively quick rise and fall through the chart. (spoileralert) There's more to come from this group further in the countdown.
35. AWOLNATION ~ Woman Woman Run: 80-69-56-44-35-29-27-26-25-22-22-19-16-14-12-12-10- 8-9-16-... E.Date: 8/19/15 | P.Date: 12/16/15 PK: 8 WC: 20*
This single would have fallen among the many other Run tracks that made the chart throughout the year, with a decent peak in the 20s or teens, until its announcement as the 3rd radio single. With a more discriminating listen, the bridge (Aaron Bruno has a very similar style of bridges throughout his songs) as well as the chorus really stand out and help the track rise above others on the record. With renewed life, it managed to grab a Top 10 peak and an extended run that lands it among the group's top performers on the chart. Hope this can hit at least Top 5 on Alternative. 34. Big Data ~ Big Dater Run: 90-69-49-40-34-30-24-18-15-13-10-7-7-10-15-20-23-32-39-50-66-92-off E.Date: 4/8/15 | P.Date: 6/24/15 PK: 7 WC: 22
A couple slots after discussing the various contributors to 2.0, the next song on the countdown is the lone track to lack a feature on the album. Alan Wilikis' vocals are masked by the instrumental but help to warn against the connections made through online dating. It was one of the tracks to make the jump from the EP, though the EP version had Joywave on vocals. There isn't a massive difference between the two versions, but they both have a strong punch in the chorus. 33. Against Me! ~ Thrash Unreal
Run: 61-52-37-29-22-17-14-13-9-8-7-7-13-19-21-26-32-40-55-64-84-99-off E.Date: 6/10/15 | P.Date: 8/19/15 PK: 7 WC: 22 Against Me! was one of my musical discoveries this year, and Thrash Unreal (their only track to really have any radio success) was among my favorite tracks. The intensity of the track is unmatched by most on this countdown. The lyrics describing the inevitable regrets and reminiscing of lost youth are pitiable and relatable. The song was one of the first AM! tracks to make the chart and had the second-biggest impact throughout the year, with a decent Top 10 peak and longevity. 32. Nathaniel Rateliff & The Nightsweats ~ S.O.B. Run: 79-63-40-32-23-20-16-12-8-4-3-3-3-5-9-13-18-28-38-... E.Date: 8/26/15 | P.Date: 11/4/15 PK: 3 WC: 19* This song covers the full spectrum of human emotion, from sadness, anger, regret, denial, and jubilation all told with in a confessional and humorous tone. Nathaniel Rateliff immediately caught my attention with his throwback sound and the eye-catching music video. I'm really curious to see where this group's future on the Alt format lies. They have the character and songwriting to have a successful era, but it's up to the stations and the audience to see if their songs stick. This track is still slowly moving down my chart, outlasting followup singles and building its legacy in the process.
31. Foals ~ Mountain At My Gates Run: 85-74-70-67-64-61-54-39-28-21-19-15-8-7-5-4-4-7-9-15-22-27-... E.Date: 8/5/15 | P.Date: 11/18/15 PK: 4 WC: 22*
What Went Down provided the promo single punch, but Mountain At My Gates equipped a solid guitar riff with a radio-ready hook that has refused to die on Alternative radio, sitting just outside the Top 10 and still climbing over 20 weeks into its run. The What Went Down era on my chart has so far echoed that trend, with the songs carving out long runs and nice peaks. I hope this can rise into the upper reaches of Alternative in the first few months of 2016, and then the band can provide song good single choices to pad out the era. This would have been quite a bit higher if the year hadn't ended so soon (or it had been released earlier).

Top Songs of 2015 (#30 - 21) 30. Imagine Dragons ~ Shots Run: 83-68-47-34-23-15-9-6-4-2-2-4-6-9-14-20-32-41-50-61-75-93-off E.Date: 3/4/15 | P.Date: 5/6/15 PK: 2 WC: 22 I really didn't like this song when I first heard it, I thought it was bland and forgettable. Maybe it was just leftover angst from the disappointment of I Bet My Life but it only took a few listens for the song to shed that opinion and grow into one of the biggest hits of the summer, and the highest peaking track from Smoke + Mirrors. I thought incorporating all of the different single art into the music video was pretty cool, though it looks like Dan Reynolds' feet were cemented to the ground throughout the shoot. I don't think these guys are going anywhere soon, but it was sad to see this end up as a relative flop on Alt.
29. Pop Evil ~ Footsteps Run: 81-77-70-64-45-35-32-26-22-20-19-14-9-8-6-7-9-14-22-38-48-56-70-99-off E.Date: 7/15/15 | P.Date: 10/21/15 PK: 6 WC: 24
Prior to this song's release, Pop Evil had been trapped in a vicious cycle of high debuts, quick rises, and equally speedy drops off the chart. The lead single from Up broke that trend by becoming the group's first Top 10 hit on my chart as well as having a slow descent through the winter. This is probably my second favorite track from these guys (behind Torn To Pieces). I was also happy this blocked Jekyll & Hyde from hitting #1. With Ways To Get High on the rise, this song may have opened the door for some great success for the group on my chart, and that's not a bad thing.
28. Robert DeLong ~ Long Way Down Run: 69-46-29-18-10-6-4-4-2-2-2-2-4-5-5-8-14-21-27-36-45-57-63-78-95-off E.Date: 12/3/14 | P.Date: 1/28/15 PK: 2 WC: 25(20)
DeLong came out with a four track EP towards the end of 2014, supplying Long Way Down as the radio track. I was instantly drawn to the catchy electronics and DeLong's vocals. The song spent four weeks at #2, the only song to have that lengthy a stay at the runner-up slot without grabbing at least a week at #1. I was also very surprised to see the song peak at #2 on Alternative. Hopefully that opens the door for another successful lead single and album cycle once the In The Cards era runs its course. 27. Foo Fighters ~ Congregation Run: 96-90-86-85-73-59-45-39-34-30-26-24-23-17-15-15-14-12-12-19-22-33-38-46-53-68-78-98-off E.Date: 12/17/14 | P.Date: 4/15/15 PK: 12 WC: 28(25)
When Congregation didn't hit #1 on Alt it was a surprise, but not entirely unexpected. The big groups have to loosen their grip on the top at some point. On my chart the song debuted a few weeks before the new year and lasted into the summer with a very slow rise that gave it (at the time, since broken by Foals) the longest run for a song that didn't peak in the Top 10. I really enjoyed this episode of Sonic Highways as well, though I'm curious to see what the song would have sounded like with more of a southern rock influence. 26. Beartooth ~ In Between Run: 68-51-22-11-4-1-2-3-3-6-11-16-18-22-24-29-37-47-54-65-82-95-off E.Date: 7/15/15 | P.Date: 8/19/15 PK: 1(1w) WC: 22
Probably the most (well maybe second most) surprising #1 of the year. Never thought a song like this would grab my attention so quickly but there's some intangible quality about it that is really addictive. The melodic chorus is radio-crafted, and the powerful vocals are an added bonus. This flew to #1 in six short weeks and then slowly descended the charts in the fall. Beartooth is one of two #1 artists to never have another song chart (the other one is coming up later), and I'm not sure if that's going to change. They may have bridged a gap for other, less melodic artists to make strides on the chart though (see: current #3 Vice Grip). Always good to see my musical taste diversify.
25. Soul Coughing ~ St. Louise Is Listening Run: 59-40-27-22-16-15-8-3 -2-2-2-4-6-11-17-24-34-35-40-... E.Date: 8/26/15 | P.Date: 10/21/15
PK: 2 WC: 19*
On my first listen of El Oso this jumped out immediately. Later research led me to discover this was the third radio single from the album though it did nothing on the charts (which is a shame because it blows Circles out of the water). There's something haunting about this song, from the effects creeping in from the background to Mike Doughty's monotone, repetitive "Let me get up on it..." droning on and on near the song's conclusion. This was trapped behind Trip Switch and Nightlight so couldn't be the group's second #1, but it's still building its legacy with a slow descent. Sadly there's no fourth Soul Coughing album to discover, but there are some residual tracks that should appear in the beginning of the year. 24. Modest Mouse ~ Lampshades On Fire Run: 82-81-80-74-64-56-49-40-35-31-25-21-20-21-20-19-16-11-9-10-16-27-35-44-51-63-79-93-off E.Date: 12/24/14 | P.Date: 4/29/15 PK: 9 WC: 28(26)
Modest Mouse came back from a long hiatus to drop Lampshades on Fire late last year, and quickly grabbed their second Alt #1 over 10 years after Float On's crowning. The song had a much slower rise on my chart and currently holds the record for the longest climb to the Top 10 (19 weeks). This was the gateway drug that got me into some Modest Mouse throughout the year. Even though it didn't provide any massive chart hits it did bring some classic tracks to my attention that get decent rotation today. Hope these guys don't go away as long as last time before their next project. 23. Frank Turner ~ Get Better
Run: 59-52-44-38-34-30-26-20-15-11-7-5-4-4-3-8-16-24-29-40-53-73-off E.Date: 4/1/15 | P.Date: 7/8/15 PK: 3 WC: 22 Frank Turner's buzz single from Positive Songs for Negative People happened to be the highest peaking track from the project, steadily climbing to #3 through the summer. Turner always has a way of making positive messages in his songs not come off as cheesy or cliche, and the passion in his voice is obvious. I was sad to see this not picked as the official single but became more sad when nothing from the album seemed to stick on Alt. 2016 might be the year where I dig deep in Turner's discography to see what I can unearth and chart. 22. Twenty One Pilots ~ Goner Run: 70-57-54-46-30-15-11-8-6-5-5-5-4-4-8-16-21-30-37-51-60-64-77-off E.Date: 6/3/15 | P.Date: 8/26/15 PK: 4 WC: 23
The final track on Blurryface, Goner is similar to Car Radio in a lot of ways, but is more melodic and the build is more satisfying. Tyler Joseph's rapping can also be a little grating at times, so the absence of that on this track pushes it above Car Radio. This managed to be the highest peaking track from Blurryface on my chart and the only song from the group to hit Top 5. This group might be the biggest turnaround in personal musical opinion from 2014 to 2015, even to the point where songs I disliked from Vessel I like now (except House of Gold, still hate that one).
21. Kendrick Lamar ~ King Kunta Run: 71-58-32-23-15-10-6-3-3-3-2-5-6-8-12-18-26-36-44-50-61-76-91-off E.Date: 3/25/15 | P.Date: 6/3/15 PK: 2 WC: 23
King Kendrick returned with To Pimp A Butterfly early in 2015 and raised his already incredible expectations. I love the swagger on this track; Kendrick clearly aware he's at the top and no one is knocking him off the throne any time soon. This was the most radio-ready track on the album and managed to have a decent run on radio. It was stopped short from hitting #1 on my chart by Alabama Shakes, giving Kendrick the honor of being the only artist with 2 #2 tracks. If he keeps up his insane musical output something should break that ceiling soon.

Top Songs of 2015 (#20 - 11) 20. Slipknot ~ The Devil in I Run: 98-93-89-84-66-47-26-15-11-10-10-9-7-6-10-11-13-17-21-24-32-35-41-49-63-70-88-99-off E.Date: 12/24/14 | P.Date: 3/25/15 PK: 6 WC: 28(26) One of the most unlikely songs to make my year-end chart, Slipknot's single snuck onto the ranks at the end of the year and spent a few weeks languishing in the 90s before catching fire as the winter wore on. Eventually notching a 28 week run, it opened the door for future Slipknot tracks to stage runs of their own. The grotesque video highlights the song's theme well, but the chorus and Corey Taylor's vocals are among the best parts of the single. Will my chart get heavier in 2016? If so, this group is partially to thank/blame.
19. Tool ~ Schism Run: 50-44-35-23-15-9-8-8-6-6-6-5-5-8-10-13-22-33-42-54-62-73-88-off E.Date: 1/7/15 | P.Date: 3/25/15 PK: 5 WC: 23
The highest-ranking Gold track on my chart, Tool's Schism had impressive Top 10 longevity despite only peaking at #5. The music video was what really drew me to the track initially, but once I got past that oddity and focused on the music I uncovered the impressive quality of the track. I was really sad to find that this peaked at #2 on both Alt and Active, trapped behind Puddle of Mudd. The bassline is instantly recognizable and Maynard Keenan's vocals offer the eerie and anguished atmosphere that perfectly match the instrumental. I've heard rumblings of a new Tool album soon, I look forward to see if they'll be realized in the new year.
18. Hozier ~ Jackie and Wilson Run: 56-43-30-19-13-9-7-3-3-3-2-3-4-8-10-18-26-37-47-53-62-73-81-97-off E.Date: 1/14/15 | P.Date: 3/25/15 PK: 2 WC: 24
While Hozier's self-titled debut had many tracks that could have served as great singles (maybe that's why the label botched the release schedule so terribly?), this was among the very best. After months of waiting and failed Alt runs, this was just sent to AAA (at #35 now) and I hope it makes the crossover at some point. Regardless of its radio success, Hozier's guitar work and vocals are at their best on this track, and in retrospect this might be above TMTC in my mind. Hopefully when Hozier's second album comes out the label will figure out how to send singles properly. Until then, Hozier left behind a plethora of great tracks in his wake, and I look forward to his next project. 17. Big Data ft. Jamie Lidell ~ Clean Run: 78-52-30-13-4-2 -1-1-1-3-4-7-9-14-21-26-31-36-44-52-57-63-71-83-99-off E.Date: 3/4/15 | P.Date: 4/15/15 PK: 1(3w) WC: 25
I'm still quite sad this never made it as a single on Alternative. It would have outperformed the Business of Emotion and maybe opened up a Joywave-esque era for Big Data on the format. Either way, I still thoroughly enjoyed the groove of the track, it jumped to three weeks at #1 in the spring. The fallout from this run also allowed Lidell to have a solid run with Do Yourself A Faver a few months later; I'll have to check him out in greater detail at some point. Still holding out the smallest sliver of hope this will be sent to radio but either way it got the success it deserved there on my chart. 16. Silversun Pickups ~ Nightlight Run: 58-36-27-16-1-1-1-1-1-3-3-5-6-8-10-14-18-23-27-31-... E.Date: 8/19/15 | P.Date: 9/16/15 PK: 1(5w) WC: 20*
Silversun Pickups have a good chance to be the QOTSA of 2016. I've really been into them over the past month or so, and the spark was the release of Nightlight as the lead single from Better Nature. This song is incredible. I love every element of it, the driving guitars, the unique vocals, and the passion that always comes through on SSPU tracks. With five weeks at #1 in the fall, it stormed to the top of the chart in five weeks. This song is going to hang around the charts for a while, at least until other SSPU songs can rise up and take some of its energy. Better Nature should bear a few more singles through the beginning of 2016. Hope we do a Pulse Top10s of the group soon.
15. The Black Keys ~ Weight Of Love Run: 68-53-41-21-13-12-11-9-6-4-3-2-2-2- 1-4-8-10-15-21-33-42-54-60-66-76-off E.Date: 12/10/14 | P.Date: 3/18/15
PK: 1(1w) WC: 26(22)
This was an unlikely #1, sneaking in between AWOLNATION's run at the top for a week. I really like the smooth guitar solos and instrumental phases of this song that were mostly brutally removed on the radio edit. This makes it the second Black Keys album in a row where I liked the extended third single most of any track on the project. Hope to see these guys return back to the garage sound for the next album, or at least deviate from the Turn Blue sound. The album wasn't terrible but it lacked the punch of their past albums. The Arcs album did fill in some of that gap though. 14. Starset ~ Carnivore (Last Year: #97) Run: 69-55-45-30-20-18-13-10-8-4-2-2-1-2-1-1-1-3-4-6-8-10-14-18-24-26-30-36-42-48-55-58-63-69-77-82-87-92-98-off E.Date: 10/15/14 | P.Date: 1/7/15 PK: 1(4w) WC: 39(27)
Here it is, the only song to feature on both Year-End charts I've compiled so far (#97 last year). Starset's unbelievable longevity allowed it to appear on both charts, ending up with a massive 39 weeks charted at the end of its run. To this date, it's still the untied longest run in chart history. Spending four weeks at #1 right at the beginning of the year in a battle with Uptown Funk, it logged an impressive 15 weeks in the Top 10. This track utilizes the symphonic, theatrical elements of Transmissions the best on the album imo, and the yearning chorus adds a lot to the track. This track won't be back on next year's countdown, but maybe something else from the group can take its place. Excited to hear what they'll put out next. 13. Highly Suspect ~ Lydia
Run: 87-84-80-72-66-57-52-43-34-28-28-25-22-17-10-5-4-2-2-2-3-5-6-7-9-... E.Date: 7/15/15 | P.Date: 11/11/15 PK: 2 WC: 25*
I let this track initially slide by me as it moved up the Active radio charts, and it took a third or fourth listen to really click. But once it did, it was almost obsessive. The vocals are the strongest component of the single. Sadly the song missed out on #1 caught behind Nothing But Thieves, but it looks to be on pace to compete for one of the longest runs in chart history. Their album Mister Asylum has some similarities to Royal Blood's project, with a slightly different, grittier sound. I thought the music video added to the song as well, and also know I'd never be able to hold my breath that long. Expect these guys to be chart regulars throughout 2016. 12. James Bay ~ Hold Back The River Run: 92-86-76-63-53-39-29-19-13-9-6-5-4-4-4-3-5-9-13-18-25-30-36-47-63-81-99-off E.Date: 3/4/15 | P.Date: 6/17/15 PK: 3 WC: 27
Let It Go has finally broken through the Bubbling Under and made the Hot 100, but I'm sad that this track wasn't the crossover hit it seemed ready to be. On my chart it climbed to a #3 peak and had nice Top 10 longevity, spending 9 weeks among the top songs. Iirc there were a couple of different edits of this song when it crossed the ocean and was sent to US radio, and the original version was always the best. It maps the build of the song well, and the "Lonely water..." section emphasizes the emotion in the track. Hope to see Bay's star rise on US radio in the new year.
11. Mumford & Sons ~ The Wolf Run: 72-62-46-33-16-8-1-1-2-3-4-2-3-3-6-9-13-17-21-25-33-41-49-57-65-79-95-off E.Date: 4/29/15 | P.Date: 6/10/15 PK: 1(2w) WC: 27
If you had told me in 2014 that Mumford & Sons would release a song that would hit #1 on my chart in 2015 and land just outside the Top 10 on my year end chart, I probably would have burst out laughing. I was never a fan of the band, and when Believe released my former biases were confirmed as the song was a snoozefest. But when the Kings of Leon flavoured, guitar (not banjo) filled Wolf track came out, I was hooked on a first listen. Marcus Mumford's voice (this time not harmonized by every other member of the band) compliments the track well, and the guitar right after the chorus is my favorite part of the track. This song joins Beartooth as the other #1 one-hit wonder artist and I'm not sure if it will chance since Ditmas didn't thrill me. Either way, happy to break down one of the most fortified walls of my music taste this year.

Top Songs of 2015 (#10 - 8) 10. X Ambassadors - Unsteady Entry Date: 4/29/15 ~ Peak Date: 8/12/15 ~ Peak Position: #6 ~ Weeks on Chart: 32 Run: 85-82-76-71-59-52-39-32-20-16-11-9-7-7-7-6-6-8-10-13-17-25-29-33-38-41-50-56-65-73-80-91-off
While its true peak may have been compromised by the quick rise (and fall) of Renegades, Unsteady had the longevity to climb into the Top 10 for the year. I initially heard this song about a week before I heard Renegades for the first time. Sam Harris' vocals were the first component of the track to catch my ear; his control and emotion throughout the track really showcase his vocal abilities (much more than Renegades). Despite not reaching the Top 5 the song spent two months in the Top 10 and had a calm descent throughout the winter. I was happy to learn that it was chosen as the second Alternative single a few months ago, and even happier to find that its progress hasn't been slowed by Renegades recurrent play. While VHS was a bit of a disappointment as a full project, I expect to be queuing up this track for years to come.
9. Nothing But Thieves - Trip Switch Entry Date: 7/29/15 ~ Peak Date: 10/21/15 ~ Peak Position: #1(6 Weeks) ~ Weeks on Chart: 23* Run: 69-52-35-18-10-6-5-5-4-2-2-2-1-1-1-1-1-1-2-2-3-4-6-...
Nothing But Thieves dominated the second half of 2015. I first heard Trip Switch from the forum thread back in late July, months before it would get the OTV deal that catapulted it to Top 10 on the Alternative format. If I had heard it a few months earlier, the song would have easily challenged for the #1 slot on this chart. A slow rise to #1 (13 Weeks) helped to promote six consecutive weeks at #1 in October and November, the longest consecutive run at the top of any song in history. As of the most recent chart (1/13), the song has spent 21 weeks in the Top 10, four weeks ahead of any other song and longer than the entire chart runs of most songs. The song's success on my chart is mostly attributed to its catchiness. From the verses to the chorus, vocals to the instrumental, every single element of this song is crafted to make you want to tap your foot to the beat. There is much more to come from this song (and band) in 2016. If I were the all-time longest chart run record, I'd watch my back.
8. Wolf Alice - Moaning Lisa Smile Entry Date: 4/1/15 ~ Peak Date: 6/24/15 ~ Peak Position: #1 (3 Weeks) ~ Weeks on Chart: 29 Run: 87-69-50-32-23-14-8-8-5-3-2-2-1-1-1-4-4-5-8-11-16-21-29-35-48-60-70-88-98-off
The simplicity of Moaning Lisa Smile was what initially drew me in. The simple acoustic guitar riff that blasts into a grunge-flavored chorus after a few bars is a great instrumental backdrop for the rest of the song. Ellie Rowsell's vocals are what made the final sale though. Her vocals have the same transforming, 90's chameleon-like quality that the rest of the band uses throughout My Love Is Cool, equally strong with harsh and soft tones. I was sad to see the song fall short of a Top 10 peak on Alternative, and it looks like the album isn't going to give them another successful radio single, but that shouldn't dissuade you from listening to it. My Love Is Cool was one of my favorite albums of the year, thoroughly recommend it if you were a fan of 90's Alternative.

Top Songs of 2015 (#7 - 6) 7. Robert DeLong - Don't Wait Up Entry Date: 6/24/15 ~ Peak Date: 8/26/15 ~ Peak Position: #1(2 Weeks) ~ Weeks on Chart: 28* Run: 70-51-37-20-13-8-3-2-2-1-1-2-3-2-3-4-6-5-10-12-18-25-29-36-43-50-58-67-...
DeLong's second single from In The Cards came in with a stronger punch than the first. The chorus is infectious, and the instrumental on the verses keeps the song steadily driving along without a moment of boredom. I was quite sad to see this fail to even get close to LWD's peak on Alt, fizzling out in the teens on the format. On my chart it had a slow rise to two weeks at #1 in the late summer. I've always liked seeing DeLong's live performances of his songs, and he appeared on some late night program with Don't Wait Up and his rig looks really unique when contrasted with the typical guitar drums bass setup that most bands have there. The song cleared the 30 week hurdle as of the most recent chart, putting it in another elite group of songs. Can't wait for more material from DeLong.
6. Until The Ribbon Breaks - A Taste of SilverEntry Date: 1/28/15 ~ Peak Date: 4/1/15 ~ Peak Position: #2 ~ Weeks on Chart: 31 Run: 78-56-41-31-21-12-8-5-3-2-3-3-4-5-8-11-11-11-10-10-14-19-27-31-36-41-49-56-67-78-96-off
Let me get something out of the way. maine . There, now time for the writeup. This song has this aura of cool that weaves in and out of the vocals and instrumental. The vocals in the verses are mysterious and the drums and percussion sound like they're experimenting throughout the song but still staying firmly on beat. Even when performed live, it sounds like the band is perfectly in sync throughout the entire song, fully aware of when they're going to stop and switch up the beat. Not much more I can say, I absolutely love this song. After peaking at #2 early in its run, it became one of the few songs to fall out of the Top 10 (for 3 weeks) and then re-enter later. A very slow descent gave it 31 weeks on the chart, but unfortunately it didn't make a dent on radio. It was sent a few times and was in decent rotation on XM radio but never caught on with the format at large. Hope to see that change in 2016 with a breakout year for the group.

Great to see "Don't Wait Up" in the Top 10! Also, can't wait to see where "Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf)" and "Let It Happen" land inside the Top 5.

Top Songs of 2015 (#5 - 4) 5. Tame Impala - Let It Happen Entry Date: 3/18/15 ~ Peak Date: 5/20/15 ~ Peak Position: #1(3 Weeks) ~ Weeks on Chart: 38 Run: 86-88-91-89-81-71-52-36-17-1-1-1-3-4-6-5-8-10-15-19-22-25-30-33-28-26-30-33-38-44-50-55-57-65-73-78-85-92-off
Before Currents, Tame Impala was strictly a singles band for me. I'd heard some of their album tracks and they didn't really stick, but I loved songs like Elephant and Feels Like We Only Go Backwards. Once Let It Happen dropped early in the year that perception shifted completely. This song wraps you in a swirling, moving blanket of sound and doesn't let go for over seven minutes. Kevin Parker's vocals float over the instrumental, almost unintelligible at times. The song slowly builds towards a catchy and satisfying conclusion, never dragging or boring the listener. On my chart spent five weeks in the 80s, initially almost falling off the chart before getting a second wind. It currently holds the record for biggest jump to #1, moving to the top from #17. The big story is the song's longevity, it spent a massive 38 weeks on the chart, only one behind Carnivore's all-time record. This song never gets old, and will be a staple in playlists years into the future.
4. Against Me! - Black Me Out Entry Date: 5/6/15 ~ Peak Date: 7/15/15 ~ Peak Position: #1(1 Week) ~ Weeks on Chart: 34 Run: 74-62-46-40-31-19-7-3-2-2-1-2-2-2-3-4-5-7-10-12-15-22-27-32-35-41-47-52-61-69-77-84-92-100-off
The raw anger on this song is really powerful. One of my favorite songs on this chart to sing along to. I especially respect the lyrics in the chorus, they make it easy to empathize with the song's intent. Against Me! was one of my favorite new artist discoveries this year, and this track was the standout of the discography I've perused so far. It rose to #1 over the summer, ascending to the throne after Wolf Alice's three weeks at the top. I wish this group had some pull on radio, but I feel like they're stuck between the two primary rock formats in the current climate. Expect a thorough look through past albums next year as well as some more tracks from the group focusing on chart runs of their own.

Top Songs of 2015 (#3 - 2) 3. Beck - Dreams Entry Date: 6/24/15 ~ Peak Date: 7/22/15 ~ Peak Position: #1(5 Weeks) ~ Weeks on Chart: 28* Run: 26-10-7-3-1-1-1-1-3-3-2-1-2-3-4-6-7-11-11-17-23-30-35-41-48-54-61-64-...
Beck is without a doubt my favorite artist of all-time. While I enjoyed Morning Phase, after waiting six long years to hear upbeat Beck return I was not disappointed. Initially taken aback by the pure poppiness of Dreams, it only took a listen or two to recover and realize how much I loved the track. When the song slows down and completely transforms its sound halfway through, I knew Beck was back and ready to deliver with his new material. The song holds the current record for the highest debut of all-time (#26), as well as being the only song to return to #1 after more than one week away from the top. It spent five weeks in total at the chart's summit, and is currently finishing up a 30+ week run that will firmly entrench it in my chart's hall of fame. Now all that's left is the achingly long wait for a new Beck album, the same project that has been hinted at since Morning Phase's release.
2. Alabama Shakes - Don't Wanna FightEntry Date: 2/18/15 ~ Peak Date: 5/6/15 ~ Peak Position: #1(2 Weeks) ~ Weeks on Chart: 32 Run: 71-52-37-20-12-10-7-5-4-3-3-1-1-2-2-5-6-8-11-17-20-24-27-32-37-41-46-51-61-74-83-97-off Alabama Shakes came out swinging this album cycle. As soon as I heard Don't Wanna Fight for the first time I knew it would hit #1 on my chart eventually. The instrumental and repeating guitar riff is purely infectious, and Brittany Howard's vocals express a level of emotion and power not found on most tracks. Howard's voice has probably been one of the more divisive components of the group's popularity, but I love her roughness and passion unmatched by many in her field. With a 12 week climb to #1 (one of the chart's longest) and a two week stay at the top, the song's longevity was what pushed it to the runner-up slot on my year-end chart. One of the ten longest-charting songs in history, it also captured #1-song of Q2 honors. I was happy to see the song have a decent showing on Alternative radio, after the group only had one previous single make an impact there. Hope to see this group continue to put out quality material and remain chart staples for years to come.
I'm sure most people who have even remotely followed the chart have a good guess at what my #1 is, but it's waiting until tomorrow anyway.

Turbowolf jump from #7 to claim the 39th #1 in chart history with Rabbits Foot. The group had an 11-week climb to the top, T-9th longest all-time. The #1 spot has changed hands relatively quickly over the past few months after Nightlight and Trip Switch's extended runs but this newcomer could last for a while. From The Pinnacle To The Pit falls just one spot after two weeks at the top. Despite a lot of movement at the top, Vice Grip holds on to #3 and has an outside shot at sneaking in a week at #1 if it continues to build momentum. It's That Talk Again falls to #4 after six weeks in the Top 3. R.I.P. 2 My Youth takes at hit to #5, dropping positions for the first time since the song's incredible recovery a few months ago. Their ride up the chart might not be finished just yet. Cirice holds at #6 but should take a big hit next week with some heavy hitters making huge moves on the next chart. Itch is the first newcomer to the Top 10, giving Nothing But Thieves their third Top 10 hit in as many tries. They're only the third act in history to earn those bragging rights (Robert DeLong's first three tracks to debut also hit Top 10, Portugal. The Man did it with their first four), but what's maybe even more impressive is all of those tracks are currently still active in the Top 10. Wake Up Call takes a three position hit but still sits at #8, and Trip Switch spends its remarkable 22nd week in the Top 10, falling two positions to #10. Run River North's recent push for radio play has quickly boosted its position on my chart, and this week Run Or Hide moves up four slots to #9. This track has the most momentum of any track in the Top 10, so that bodes well for future weeks.
After a lukewarm start to the year regarding high debuts, the third chart of 2016 blew the not-so-old marks out of the water. Ed Sheeran's Make It Rain jumps in at #50 earning the HSD as well as one of the 25 highest debuts of all-time. I'd heard the song a few times over the past few months but finally had it come up while browsing Spotify and realized how much I truly love the song. It could be Sheeran's first track to become a top 10 hit (current best is Sing with a #13 peak). Soul Coughing's El Oso-fueled rampage continues with I Miss The Girl debuting at #65. Some of the earlier tracks from the comeback have dropped off or are falling, so there's less of a logjam from the group's songs currently. Andrew Watt enters Ghost In My Head at #75, a track currently making some waves on Active that was an obvious earworm on first listen. Silversun Pickups chart their third track from Better Nature as Connection enters at #78. Still waiting to see what the second SSPU radio single will be (I'm hoping it's Latchkey Kids). The Kooks continue their successful Listen era on my chart; their fourth charter Around Town slots in at #85. Foo Fighters chart Savior Breath, the second track from their Saint Cecelia EP to make the ranks here. Muse add Defector at #95 after six weeks Bubbling Under, and Coldplay follow-up the now falling Adventure Of A Lifetime(#14) with Everglow at #98.
Porutgal. The Man rise to #1 on the Bubbling Under chart with Sugar Cinnamon, though I'm not sure if the song will make an entry on the main chart. Don't Wait Up drops off the main chart after 30 long weeks and immediately takes up residence atop the Recurrent chart. As a trivia sidenote, Benjamin Booker's Wicked Waters drops off after one week charting at #100, trying The Prodigy's Out Of Space for the worst main chart run in history. Since Out Of Space's one week was the chart's first ever week and had the chart started earlier it would have peaked higher, Booker can take the worst run title for himself. The song has a chance to re-enter in the future and shed that embarrassing tag but for now must live with its poor showing.

#1 Song Of 2015! 1. AWOLNATION - Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf) Entry Date: 2/4/15 ~ Peak Date: 2/25/15 ~ Peak Position: #1(6 Weeks) ~ Weeks on Chart: 34 Run: 38-14-7-1-1-1-2-1-1-1-2-2-2-4-5-6-7-6-8-11-13-19-25-31-34-39-43-48-54-58-66-79-85-94-off
Sail is a phenomenal song. I first heard it on the radio prior to following the charts, and was captured by the mood of the song and Aaron Bruno's vocals. As I began to watch the charts religiously I saw the song continue its improbable Hot 100 run and continue to gain popularity. With Pop radio one-hit wonder status cemented, it was easy to assume that nothing that AWOLNATION would release in the future would come close to that song or Megalithic Symphony. When rumors began to circulate about an upcoming album early in the year I was excited but completely ready to be disappointed. It only took two listens to shake off any chance of being underwhelmed by the single. In the year of the wolves on Alternative radio this track reigned supreme. The confessional lyrics address the struggle of heavy expectation, but their confident delivery combined with the heavy instrumental shows Bruno ready to step back into the spotlight again. The instrumental break builds into the powerful climax of the song, Bruno's screams piercing over the synthesizers. This track sounded great on the radio and gave the group their first #1 on the format. It immediately raised my expectations for Run which were later easily met. Unquestionably my favorite song of 2015, shattering the myth that follow-up albums always have to be a disappointment.
Thanks again to anyone who checked out the chart throughout the year, only a little over 11 months until the next Year-End countdown!

Turbowolf hold onto the #1 spot for a second week, Rabbits Foot doesn't have any immediate challengers and should be safe for at least one more week. Vice Grip continues to rise, moving up to #2 in its 7th week in the Top 10. I should start digging around to find a Parkway Drive follow-up single soon. From The Pinnacle To The Pit drops to #3 with a slow Top 10 descent ahead. Just when it seemed like the ride had ended, R.I.P. 2 My Youth rebounds to #4 with some recaptured momentum. Top 3 seems unlikely with some faster-moving songs below but The Neighbourhood have defied expectations before. Itch gives Nothing But Thieves their third straight Top 5 hit, the first artist in history to have their first three charting tracks grab Top 5 peaks. It's That Talk Again falls out of the Top 5; my fingers are crossed that Broken Bells can announce a new project this year. Run Or Hide jumps two positions to #7 in its second Top 10 week. The two new Top 10 entries this week are second singles from current Active juggernauts. Shinedown's State Of My Head moves from #14 - #8 and has a shot at outpeaking Cut The Cord (#4). Ways To Get High finally reaches #10 in its 13th week on the chart, and will likely outpeak Footsteps (#6). Finally, Cirice spends its 13th and probably last week in the Top 10, falling to #9. Miike Snow's Genghis Khan gets the highest debut at #57 this week. The song has been stuck in my head for the last few days and helped me shovel through two feet of snow last weekend. A song I heard months ago but rediscovered through the recent rock tournament debuts next at #69. Tear You Apart from She Wants Revenge already seems like it should hit Top 10, but I'll wait and see if it continues to grow on me. Weezer chart their third track from the upcoming self-titled white album, as King Of The World joins at #75. All three of the Weezer songs are still charting, so they may get in each other's way in the coming weeks. He Is starts its run at #78, Ghost log their fourth track (of many to come) from Meilora. The range of this group's musical talents is fantastic, and I don't see their relevancy fading on my chart for months. The 1975 appear to have won me over after I wasn't a fan of their last album. The Sound debuts at #84 and has momentum on its side for next week. Queens of the Stone Age debut Fairweather Friends at #88, their 9th(!) track from ...Like Clockwork to make it onto the main chart. Look for the title track to attempt to close out the tracklist soon. Dead In The Water charts next at #94, one of the album tracks from Up that grabbed me when listening to Pop Evil's recent project. Finally, Death Cab For Cutie's third radio single Good Help (Is So Hard To Find) enters at #98. It should probably fall off and then re-enter later (seeing as the last two DCFC tracks took that route), but we'll see. Portugal. The Man still hold #1 on the Bubbling Under chart with Sugar Cinnamon, still not sure if it's going to make the jump. Don't Wait Up holds off Arkells and Beck to grab a second week at #1 on the Recurrent chart. Hopefully I'll be back on track with the chart for next week, until then I'm out.

Starting things off with some celebration, this entry officially marks two consecutive years of doing the chart, never missing a week! Rabbits Foot holds on to #1 for a third week, but Parkway Drive are still creeping up at #2. Vice Grip's chances of hitting #1 have increased since last week but I still think it's unlikely they'll make the final jump. One reason why is Itch, which moves to #3 this week with strong momentum to make the final push next chart. From The Pinnacle To The Pit falls to #4, nearly passed by #5 Run Or Hide. Run River North still don't have traction on radio despite going for adds but that's not slowing it down here. State Of My Head moves to #6, only two spots away from matching Cut The Cord's peak. Similarly, Ways To Get High jumps to #7, only one spot away from Pop Evil's highest charting track, Footsteps. It's That Talk Again descends to #8, helped a bit by a huge drop from R.I.P. 2 My Youth which falls from #4 to #9. It appears The Neighbourhood's cinderella run is now over and I'll have to look through the supremely underwhelming Wiped Out! to see if I can find anything worth charting. Finally, Silversun Pickups earn their second Top 10 hit as Latchkey Kids moves into the final Top 10 position in its 13th week on the chart. The track overcame a bit of a sluggish start to its run and now I'm hoping it gets announced as the second radio single.
Top debut this week is quite unexpected, coming from across the ocean in Germany. Madsen's Sirenen enters at #56, by far the highest debut for a non-English song. Previously only Stromae broke the language barrier on my chart, but this song has caught fire over the past week and appears set for Top 10 glory if that holds. Musical discoveries like this is one of my favorite parts of keeping this chart. Next up is another band I had never heard of before this week, as Clutch joins with The Regulator at #68. The band apparently had minor success on Active a decade or so ago but this song wasn't among their charted tracks. Kaleo adds Way Down We Go at #81, a track that reminds me of a fusion between Hozier and Kongos, two artists that have had great success on my chart. Moon Taxi's Year Zero finds a place at #87, not sure if this ever went to radio but it's not the current single so if it has I missed out. FIDLAR chart their second track after the Top 10 hit 40oz. On Repeat, with Why Generation entering at #90. The group straddles the line between catchy and grating, with the two charters being examples of the former and songs like "Sober" occupying the latter category. The Arcs chart Put A Flower In Your Pocket, one of many songs I hope could get a shot at radio glory now that Outta My Mind has been gone for a few weeks. Finally, The National enter with Mistaken For Strangers, one of the songs I discovered in the recent tournament that earned extra momentum with EL VY's current success.
Claudeland becomes the new #1 on the Bubbling Under chart and should make the jump to the Top 100 soon. Don't Wait Up grabs its third week atop the Recurrent chart, with no major dropouts this week. Looking forward to the next two years of chart action.

After 14 long weeks ascending the chart, Parkway Drive surprises the field and jumps to #1 with Vice Grip. The song notches the third longest climb to #1 in chart history, only Weight Of Love and Kathleen (both 15 weeks) took longer. They may not hold the top spot for long, as Itch continues its steady climb up from #3 to the runner-up slot this week. The release of Nothing But Thieves' self-titled debut album has given the track new momentum that should carry it over the edge. Turbowolf drop to #3 after a solid three-week reign. Run Or Hide hits #4 in its 4th Top 10 week, destined for at least a Top 3 peak. From The Pinnacle To The Pit moves to #5 on its descent, now in its 8th Top 10 week. Ways To Get High moves to #6, tying Pop Evil's previous highest-peaking track. (Footsteps) State Of My Head regresses to #7 but hasn't lost its bullet. It should make a push for the Top 5 if the Top 10 activity can slow a bit. Latchkey Kids is enjoying a nice long ascent as well, jumping to #8. It's That Talk Again falls to #9, and with 14 weeks in the Top 10 has one of the 10 longest runs in the top group in chart history. Finally, a major chart record falls. Atlas Genius (masters of the long chart run) finally push A Perfect End into the Top 10 in its 23rd(!!) week, shattering the old mark from Modest Mouse by four weeks. Its momentum has nearly evaporated so it shouldn't be a long stint, but this record should stand for quite some time.
Hot Shot Debut this week goes to Kurt Vile's Pretty Pimpin, a track I passed over a few times after listening but just clicked with me a few days ago. It joins at #63 with a lot of momentum for next week. Ban All The Music is the fourth Nothing But Thieves track to enter, joining at #72 due to hype from their album finally releasing. We'll see if the group can tie Portugal. The Man's record and have their first four charting singles hit the Top 10. Highly Suspect add album closer Claudeland to the ranks at #81. The Heavy return with a new single Since You Been Gone at #84. If my chart had existed when How You Like Me Now was released that song would have easily grabbed a Top 10 peak. Marcus Marr and Chet Faker pooled their talents on an EP, The Trouble With Us is the first track to join at #89 and more could follow. MS MR didn't seem to stick on radio this album cycle, but I first heard All The Things Lost this week and remembered why I like Lizzy Plapinger's voice so much. The song enters at #94 and should challenge Criminals (#68) for the group's highest peaking song. Finally, Dinosaur Pile-Up chart Peninsula at #98. It bubbled under for a few weeks and earned a chance at main chart glory, time to see if it can capitalize.
Atlas Genius are all over this news update, and Refugees fills the void left at the #1 Bubbling Under spot. It should be the fourth charting track from Inanimate Objects shortly. Leather Jacket finally grabs the #1 Recurrent spot after 18 long weeks on the chart. The song has stayed in heavy rotation even months after falling off the main chart, and should stay as a regular Gold track for years to come.

Nothing But Thieves become the 8th act in chart history to grab two #1 hits, as Itch sails to the top in its 11th week on the chart. With my first listen of their self-titled album under my belt, expect them to have a pretty good shot at being the first group to hold a third #1 track (unless Portugal. The Man drop their rumored album out of nowhere). Vice Grip falls back to #2 and prepares for descent with its run still exceeding all expectations. Run Or Hide rises to #3, emerging as a darkhorse contender for the top slot in a few weeks if it keeps its momentum. It displaces Rabbits Foot to #4, reminding me that I should start looking around for a Turbowolf second single on their album. Pop Evil hit the Top 5 for the first time with Ways To Get High, besting the group's previous all-time highest peak (Footsteps, #6). State Of My Head rebounds to its earlier peak of #6, and should hopefully continue to climb if the logjam at the top can clear a bit. From The Pinnacle To The Pit drops to #7, heading towards the pit after holding the chart's pinnacle for two weeks. Latchkey Kids holds at #8, just holding off Return To The Moon. EL VY enter the Top 10 with a two slot hop and look poised to hit the Top 5. Finally, Broken Bells spend an impressive 15th week in the Top 10 with It's That Talk Again, tying Starset's Carnivore for the fifth longest stint there in chart history.
In a quiet week for debut songs, Ten Commandos grab the Hot Shot Debut with Outermost Sky at #72. The group is composed of members from several successful rock bands and didn't pass under my radar until a tournament on the site. OK Go's newest music video for Upside Down & Inside Out prompted a debut at #75, successfully starting the group out above the 90s rut most of its charters seem to get lost in. This probably has the most momentum out of any of the debuts for next week. Logic returns at #83 with Like Whoa, the rapper previously charted as high as the runner-up slot with Under Pressure towards the beginning of last year. San Fermin chart their second track after a few missed the mark in the Bubbling Under range. Sonsick enters at #87 and could surprise in future weeks. Cold War Kids log Flower Drum Song at #91, continuing their successful run of songs from Hold My Home and the Five Quick Cuts EP. Foals chart Albatross at #94, the fourth song to enter from What Went Down. Finally, (months after its adds date), DNCE chart Cake By The Ocean at #97. I've had an odd streak of several Jonas Brothers charting in the past, but the songs are too catchy to ignore.
Atlas Genius continue their reign over the Bubbling Under chart with Refugees, which should enter very soon. Arkells relish in their long climb last week to the Recurrent throne, and Leather Jacket gets another week at #1. Rumblings of a Portugal. The Man album dropping over the summer have started, will the chart get its first ever #1 debut? (probably not)

The top three is completely stable this week, a chart oddity that hasn't happened since mid-November. Nothing But Thieves retain their #1 position as Itch spends a second week at #1. Vice Grip holds at #2, grabbing its 11th week in the Top 10, becoming the 25th song to claim that milestone. Run Or Hide is stuck at #3 but its momentum suggests a nice jump next week. Pop Evil continue to push the boundaries of their highest-charting song, as Ways To Get High slides to #4. Rabbits Foot drops to #5 and State Of My Head holds at #6, two songs that have lost most of their upward momentum. Latchkey Kids and Return To The Moon both gain one position, desperately trying to keep momentum in a highly competitive top group. From The Pinnacle To The Pit slides to #9 as the third Ghost track prepares to attempt a Top 10 peak. Finally, The Vampyre Of Time and Memory give Queens Of The Stone Age their second Top 10 hit as ...Like Clockwork continues to stay relevant into 2016.
Ray LaMontagne compeltely blindsided me this week with lead single Hey, No Pressure, and it earns the highest debut at #62. He previously charted with Supernova(#55) in Fall of 2014, but this song should easily surpass that song's peak. Parkway Drive refuse to stay a one hit wonder, throwing The Sound Of Violence into the ranks at #73. The Mud Howlers grab the #79 slot with Give Me Something, a band and song I had never heard of before this week. A solid rock track that could grow on me in future weeks. Howling At Nothing attempts to succeed where the last two Nathaniel Rateliff & The Nightsweats tracks have failed: matching S.O.B.'s #3 peak. It enters at #83 with a tough road ahead. Radio single Saint Cecilia enters at #89 as the third track to chart from the Foo Fighters EP of the same title. I just listened to PVRIS' White Noise for the first time this week (oddly a day or so before they dropped a new single), and really enjoyed a few tracks I hadn't yet charted. White Noise leads the charge at #92 as the first of several tracks the group should see have chart time over the next few months. Finally, James Bay offers Craving at #97 after 9 long weeks Bubbling Under.
Much like the main chart, the Top 2 of the Bubbling Under chart stay stationary for a third straight week, as Refugees patiently waits to make the Top 100. St. Louise Is Listening falls off the main chart after 26 weeks, and immediately gets to hold the #1 slot on the Recurrent chart, a main chart honor it just missed out on a few months ago. Despite losing Internet access for a few days I still managed to keep this up on time, you guys just get the delayed version. Unless the storms have a second wind, expect next week's chart to be on time.

Nothing But Thieves hold strong at #1 with Itch for a third consecutive week. It's likely they'll spend at least one more week atop the chart without a significant challenge. Run Or Hide is making strong progress however, bolstered by the release and first listen of Drinking From A Salt Pond. The song moves to #2 in its 13th week on the chart. Pop Evil surge into the Top 3 with Ways To Get High, the track has now firmly established itself as the band's biggest hit. Vice Grip falls to #4 with Parkway Drive's follow-up single on the rise. Latchkey Kids flies into the Top 5, giving Silversun Pickups their second Top 5 hit. Rabbits Foot falls to #6, just barely staying ahead of Return To The Moon, which continues its slow climb to #7. The new entry in the Top 10 this week is Miike Snow's Genghis Khan, entering at #8. That song has a bright future ahead, which could be even greater once I give their new album a proper listen. State Of My Head starts its descent, falling just short of Cut The Cord(#4)'s peak. It should have a longer run when everything is finished. The Vampyre Of Time and Memory holds at #10, handicapped by some powerful songs rising below.
Top debut this week comes from Run River North's recent album. 29 debuts 41 spots lower than its namesake at #70, but could climb above that slot in the future. Atlas Genius charts their fourth song from Inanimate Objects, as Refugees enters at #75 after several weeks leading the Bubbling Under chart. Silversun Pickups add second single Circadian Rhythm (Last Dance) at #82. It's the fourth song to chart from Better Nature, all of which are still currently charting. Kanye West returns to the chart with his first new material since Yeezus, as Ultralight Beam is in at #85. Haven't heard all of The Life Of deleted yet, but if it's as interesting as this track expect more to chart. Robert DeLong adds his third radio single Jealousy to the mix at #88, attempting to recapture the great success of Long Way Down(#2) and Don't Wait Up(#1,3w). Lukas Graham enters with 7 Years at #93, a catchy track that I'm surprised to see moving up the Alt charts. Florence + The Machine chart Delilah at #97 after Ship To Wreck peaked in the Bubbling Under chart a few months ago. Finally, Interpol just barely sneak Ancient Ways onto the chart at #99.
Wolf Alice move to the Bubbling Under peak with Your Loves Whore, expect that song to debut in a week or two. St. Louise Is Listening holds off Arkells for a second week atop the Recurrent chart. We're coming up on the end of the first quarter already, and some songs are starting to pull ahead of the pack. Will they last for the rest of 2016? Time will tell.
