It's really not that offensive of a question. How do you think it would have performed? it would have performed absolutely the same except maybe on Rhythmic radio.

If that was the case I would call it a gamble.

The remix didn't ensure it going to #1. What the remix did was ensure she was selling double of #2.

I might be late, but "E.T." was my favorite single from Teenage Dream. I loved everything about it.

Kanye definitely took ET to a new level. I dont like Kanye normally but I agree with this. Also, the production on the remix was slightly different - the background "space sounds" and video game beat in the verse were turned up, which to me made it an even mkre dramatic/perfect

The solo version was way better, imo.

I prefere the solo version of ET, but the Kanye remix was a big reason for it being as big as it was and charting as long as it did.

I also prefer the solo version of ET, but I do think Kanye helped it be as big as it was.
Also, I am more baffled by Hot Ac seemingly cold-shouldering her a bit compared to Pop. I would think a fun, light Katy song would be the type of song Hot Ac would play the shit out of even if it misses top 10 on pop. Like, instant top 5 for every single song she releases. I don't think her last two have even went top 10 there? Or did Birthday? I may be mistaken.

Why do you Katy stans keep talking about the past? The reality is that Tihwd is a disapointment for Katy.We know what a great success the Teenage dream era was, but now its the Prism era.

1. Kanye version ("so far uh-uh-up, we don't give a ******").
2. Solo.
"E.T." was a solid track to begin with (Katy was blessed to recieve that instrumental), but Kanye made the track knock hard.

The solo version was way better, imo. The reason why I hated the Kanye verse so much was the lack of cohesiveness between his lyrics and Katy's. It's like he didn't even listen to the song! Here is E.T., this amazing and fun track about love that was universally applicable (at least, imo) and then there is Kayne's verse, all about how he is the best and how you should be thrilled that he is about to hook up. Just didn't work, the original was perfect for me.

Lulz. Kanye's verses, lyrically speaking, weren't out of place at all. From my perspective "E.T." was filled with sexual innuendos and overtones moreso than tender, touching commentaries about love. His raps were, more or less, a bolder way of tackling what the song's lyrics were all about.

lol you people and your "I listen to lyrics" mentality. I listen to music for melody, hook, and beat. I could care less what they're actually singing about.

You musta never had one damn song change yo life then. The songs that make a difference are the ones we relate to and how the hell you gawn relate if you ain't listenin to tha lyrics? I call BS. Lyrics are important to everyone in some way. Would you still be slobbin "Birthday's" knob if its lyrics were "boy when you eat cheese, you bust that gas all day, we should buy some stock in 2-ply and Glade"? I think not.

Good for you, but for a lot of people lyrics are important, and one of the things that critics use again Katy album after album are her lyrics. And frankly, the same music with different lyrics it's a totally different song, if a musician thinks that lyrics doesn't matter better do instrumental songs

Of course I listen sometimes, but lyrics come dead-last for me. I don't flip thru radio stations and then come to a screeching halt and proclaim "WAIT! I'll leave this song on cuz it has a good message." lol. No, I flip thru stations until I like a melody or a beat. But whatever. Moving on..

The entire construction of a song is important…you may change the radio dial and hear a great beat and then as soon as the lyrics come out, cringe and turn it. For me it takes everything clicking in some way. I do not need every song to have earth shattering important lyrics but if it is a fun song the lyrics still need to be clever for what it is trying to achieve.

"boy when you eat cheese, you bust that gas all day, we should buy some stock in 2-ply and Glade"? I didn't think it was possible for 'Birthday' to have worse lyrics than it already does.

In some cases, I listen to lyrics. In others, I listen for melody/hook/beat. It just depends. It's the main reason I love a lot of music, and have a lot of variety in my library.

Spree, wasn't Firework the song that motivated you to come out of the closet IIRC? That song and it's lyrics were pretty moving...

In pop, sometimes lyrics are important but Katy is one of those artists they don't matter that much. It really depends on the artist I'd say

Well, plastic bag metaphors are riveting, no doubt. ;) Honestly I've been over Firework since about a month after it blew up, and I don't think age is being kind to it at all either.
