I believe Firework is overrated a bit (like it anyway, but it's not among the first 5 songs I would play on TD from best to worst)

The only part I genuinely like on Firework is the bridge. I was actually shocked to see it becoming her biggest hit ever up until Roar/Dark Horse.
I feel like she has too many singles that made a huge impact so it's hard to narrow them down to 3. To me, her 3 signature songs are..
01. I Kissed A Girl 02. Teenage Dream 03. Dark Horse

I have soft spot for Hot N Cold and Last Friday Night. But ET is her best, TD probably second and DH third.

Katy's current standing with her singles:
ET The One That Got Away Hot N Cold California Gurls Dark Horse I Kissed A Girl Teenage Dream Waking Up In Vegas Roar Thinking Of You Unconditionally Wide Awake Firework Part Of Me Last Friday Night Birthday This Is How We Do
Walking On Air, if released, would be somewhere in the Top 5.

I may be in the minority but my opinion on Firework hasn't changed much. It may also be because I don't overplay songs or listen to radio too much anymore. On the other hand, I was never much into Wide Awake. I don't like the structure or tone of the song. Don't remember the lyrics either. Just meh to me. Hot and Cold, Teenage dream and ET are true classics tho, so I can put them on top of her catalogue, but Firework belongs with them too IMO

My Katy rankings: 1. Hot N Cold 2. Dark Horse 3. E.T. 4. The One That Got Away 5. California Gurls 6. Waking Up In Vegas 7. Firework 8. Waking Up In Vegas 9. Birthday 10. I Kissed A Girl 11. Thinking of You
... the rest
I think her signature songs as of now are probably Firework and Dark Horse.

'Firework' came on at the bar I was at last night and the only thing it made me want to do is put myself in a comatose state and drink myself into oblivion.
That being said, it's for sure a signature Katy hit. That much is unarguable. A lot of her songs are. I can't really narrow them down.

I didn't think much of Firework until I saw the film "Rust & Bone" with Marion Cotillard. That will change your mind about the song and I can't explain it... you just have to watch the film.

Sounds like TIHWD is really that uneventful, the last 20 posts had nothing to do with it lol

19 Katy Perry - This Is How We Do 1,454,646 plays Climbs 4 spots to #19 on Spotify this week. it's such a shame. This would really be a Hot 100 Top 10 contender, if not Top 5, if radio was on board. Sales and streaming suggest public interest. It's holding on really well, and far higher than anyone would imagine, for the amount of airplay it has.

When has Katy Perry ever needed a ton of airplay for strong sales?

It's #11 on the iTunes Pop chart. Now if you want to go by the overall iTunes chart, then go by the overall airplay chart. By doing that, its sales are doing way better than its overall airplay position.

When has Katy Perry ever needed a ton of airplay for strong sales? Agree, her big hits have been strong sellers right away, at least after the video. This time, however, she has a single that "should" be top ten on airplay (as her songs usually are) which at the moment prevents it going top 20 on Hot 100.

I don't think pop radio is to blame here. She's lacking rhythmic support and even hot AC, where she's been a staple, is behind pop. Her pop position is consistent with sales and streaming. In any case, she's been over supported by radio with previous releases, so I'm fine with this outcome now :)

I absolutely agree with you in principle. At the same time, there was that KIIS radio programmer who allegedly went into this song with a bias. And the fact that Z100 only added this within the past week or two is many, many levels beyond appalling. Radio doesn't owe Katy Perry anything, but let's not pretend the pop format, let alone the lagging rhythmic and Hot AC ones, has been "all in" on this the way it usually is with KP singles.

This song is incredibly weak in comparison to her other, more successful singles. I'm not surprised at all it isn't performing that hot.

This is similar to "Human" by Christina Perri. Poor callout scores and radio performance, but sales and streaming are good. This is a case where radio isn't overlapping with the other 2 areas like it often does.
And radio has all sorts of bias against many songs. That's nothing new.

Where is this ranked on the streaming chart? 23 24 24 7 This Is How We Do, Katy Perry 23 chart run = 34 - 34 - 33 - 27 - 24 - 24 - *23* - ? for comparison sake, on Digital Songs: 25 25 26 4 This Is How We Do, Katy Perry 25 and Hot 100 Airplay: 44 49 – 2 This Is How We Do, Katy Perry 44 so while it's true that this is lagging behind in airplay compared to its sales and streaming, it's not exactly smashing on those charts either. would higher airplay lead to higher sales and more streams? probably. but so-so airplay hasn't stopped other songs from doing much better on the other component charts ("Wiggle" jumps to mind as a recent example.)

Props to Katy + her label on screwing up any chance that Legendary Lovers or Walking on Air had at doing great by releasing 2 crap singles back-to-back following one of the biggest singles of her career. I hope they'll at least take a chance w/ Legendary Lovers! Plus with other songs talking about going to the river (Ghost by Ella Henderson and Burnin' Up by Jessie J), it could fit into that darker pop category.

Anyone know anything about the 2 demo songs for katy and Rihanna that leaked in 2010? They are called Your love (save me, love me) Someone to love (turn off the lights)
Just wanted some info: were they actually ever real songs, did they get refused?

Walking On Air would have been a perfect/innovative single since theres a resurgence in house music.

Plus with other songs talking about going to the river (Ghost by Ella Henderson and Burnin' Up by Jessie J), it could fit into that darker pop category. Legendary Lovers' chance of doing great was ruined when they recorded Legendary Lovers. It's a cool album track. Not a hot single. (Plus, to your other point, why would they want to release something thematically similar to Ghost? How does that help her stand out?) I outright think Walking on Air sucks - it's so dated and so many levels behind the house-ish songs that are succeeding at radio now - but it's also obvious that people REALLY, REALLY like that song. That popularity would be enough to compensate for any "damage" that was done by the previous two singles. And let's not forget that This is How We Do was pegged as an obvious single candidate (alongside Dark Horse and Walking on Air) when PRISM came out. They didn't release it thinking, "Let's put out a crap single to further damage Katy's momentum." They've long thought they had a winner there.

early response to Dark Horse aside (and that would've been partially avoided had it not been a pre-release track), just imagine if they had gone:
Roar Legendary Lovers Dark Horse Walking On Air Birthday (with a good video)
I think that would rival TD's era a hell of a lot more. Like 75-80% just as good.
