Seriously where did that all time alt rock list come from? Is it fan made? the list contains great band names, but alt rock is not defined by those bands in particular. Where's INXS?, The Smiths? The Pretenders ,New Order? and STP with Scott, does belong on that list. There was life in alt music scene before the 90s. Alt rock is not a defined genre. good bands like, Matchbox Twenty, Creed, Dido, Everclear, Goo Goo Dolls and even Nickelback have all got thier start on Alt radio stations and so have the 80s bands ;I mentioned above. Those fans stuck soley on those 90's bands will never be able to look into the future of Alt rock. anyway, aside from "Slow Hands" and "Evil"(masterpiece), I'm not really a fan of this band. This new song doesn't cut it for me.

I believe it's the Billboard official chart for the 25th anniversary of their Alternative chart. It is.
Quite a few of the artists you mentioned are on there, just not in the top 20. The chart started in 1988, so that's probably why the artists from the 80's are missing or low ranked.

As much as I love Interpol, I wish they would either put out something commercially friendly like the Antics-era or high quality. Sadly, I think this song is neither. It should do modestly well on namesake alone.

Interesting list Billboard has compiled. IMOP, Red Hot Chili Peppers got jipped out of the top spot. Foo Fighters are good, but concidering the RHCPs have been around at least 10 years before. I'm pretty sure Billboard didn't even concider "Higher Ground" or "Suck my Kiss"? Foo Fighters is now; at least to my ears ,straight our hard rock. "Wheels" and "These Days"sounded like Top Petty songs and "Rope" was number one forver on mainstream Rock, not Alt Rock.Billboard seriously needs more capable employees.

If we are talking about chart success , then I beleive U2 would be number one, but even then; Californiacation alone, should qualify RHCPs to be more successful on the Alternative charts, All singles held number one for at least 12 weeks & up. Foo Fighters biggest hits on Alt were "The Pretender" , "All My Life". I'm basing this on BillBoard's top 100 alt rock songs. "Rope" isn't even on that list. I'm not too convinced. Foo Fighters are great, but no way ;Alt Rock's All Time biggest act.

One does not simply ask who Artie Ziff is. All you told me was he wanted 420 posts so he deleted them. That was Pipa actually But that doesn't matter. You get a good description of Artie Ziff based on that thread Pipa showed you, as well as from the Eagles Of Death Metal thread I showed you. Artie also failed to realize that mediabase was a thing. I mean the guy treated Billboard like a religion. He also enjoyed starting threads for every single song that went for adds in a really frustrating way. For example, had he started this thread, it would be entitled: All The Rage Back Home (Interpol) He was also prone of getting lost in his own theoretical views about alternative and rock music, and would go on and on about a bunch of pointless and petty stuff that was too silly not to engage into arguments that would last several pages. Then there was the time he started a thread for "Stand Up!" by Artists Stand Up To Cancer, which as you probably just guessed, was entitled: Just Stand Up! (Artists Stand Up To Cancer) Lost in all of this was that he was actually a nice guy and was generally a fairly good sport despite all of the rippings he received on these forums. Artie literally got LIT UP on these forums every day (back when I was here, anyway), and I don't mean the Buckcherry way. But enough from me, if anyone else wants to step up to the plate and share their favourite Artie moments, the stage is yours.

Artie wasn't a complete tool or anything. He just created his own rules and while he claimed he worked at a radio station, he was clueless on many fronts to do with rock music. After countless times or people explaining to him of why his actions were causing a stir on here, he just ignored them every time.
I don't know if many of you have been here as long as I have, but does anyone remember Joe (The Man)?

LOL I honestly miss Artie Ziff. I found him pretty funny with all his Billboard posts, and when everyone would get pissed at him, he tried to talk his way around them.
What happened to many of the old posters anyway? pen, lockebox, etc.
As for this song, at least it's better than "Barricade" anyway. Could be a grower.

Excluding the ones who are still around today, I only really remember Artie, Phobes, Pen, Nicholas 2.0 (May he rest in peace :'( ), and the guy who had Dale from King of the Hill as his avatar.

I thought he was a good guy, even if I didn't particularly agree with his opinion on Alternative.

What happened to many of the old posters anyway? pen, lockebox, etc. I speak to pen occasionally as I know him in person. I don't know how this is much of an excuse, but apparently when ProBoards changed the look of this board, it looked unattractive to him, so for that reason he doesn't come here anymore. ::shrugs:: I know he posts frequently on the TuneLab and is involved in this music madness tournament they have going on there. I've been telling myself for forever to sign up and join there as well. I know a lot of you are also on there, but I keep forgetting. pen is actually coming down here to go with me to a Linkin Park/30 Seconds To Mars/AFI concert, so I'll tell him you all said hi and will make him strap me to my computer until I sign up for Tunelab :)

Pen has abandoned Pulse and moved on to the TuneLab music forums. Lockebox is MIA, and has been for over a year now I think. Not sure who else to wonder about. Does rockmaniac even post anymore? I remember everyone's conspiracy theorys about him actually being the one and only metalfan87.
I too miss Artie. His posts always made me chuckle, and yes he was a frustrating and stubborn poster to deal with, but he was quite nice all the same. I really enjoyed his AirBracket games he used to host.

What was his opinion? lol Basically, he thought mid 2000s Alternative sucked, when I thought that was the best Alternative was. If you want to see the discussion about that, check out the "Light 'Em Up" thread, lol.
